Ravens announced they've placed G Ben Cleveland on the Non-Football Injury list (which usually indicates not passing the conditioning test). Baltimore also signed WR Bailey Gaither.

giphy.webp Lamar Jackson has practiced the past three days with the rookies.

It looks like Gus won't be ready for Week 1 but we'll see. Stanley we should know about relatively soon. I think JK will be ready week 1. He's pissed off. Boyle???? He has to prove himself again. He's lost weight and the Ravens could really use him.

RB Gus Edwards is in question for Week 1, but Ravens are optimistic about other guys on PUP. Rookie 4th round TE Charlie Kolar is dealing with what could be sports hernia. He’s still being evaluated but expectation is he’ll miss some time. David Ojabo still hasn’t signed deal.

  2. Ravens rookie LB David Ojabo remains unsigned, holding out of training camp (nfl.com)

    Quote

"Ojabo is unsigned and holding out for the start of Ravens training camp, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday on Good Morning Football. The Michigan product remains the lone pick of the 2022 NFL Draft yet to sign their rookie contract.
"From my understanding, the argument is about the third-year guarantee," Rapoport said. "If you look at the distribution of where players are and how much is guaranteed in the third year, the Houston Texans fully guaranteed the third year of their second-round pick (defensive back Jalen Pitre), which has caused everyone to go into flux a bit."

Projecting the Ravens’ 53-man roster: With Justin Houston’s return, here’s where team stands entering training camp – Baltimore Sun

With the signing of Houston, the Ravens have filled all their holes. Weaknesses remain. Most definitely. Yet all teams have weaknesses. That goes with the Age of Parity and the CAP.

I not sure if Hill makes this roster. Mike Davis may replace him.

I think a surprise UFA WR makes the roster. I think Phillips wins the LG spot. OLB is weak with Bowsers return to 100% uncertain. He's really needed, and Hayes must emerge as an unknown pleasant surprise.

We can go to war with this bunch. :gorave:

  4. Lamar was in the MVP conversation before he got hurt last year. He has a .755 career winning percentage. He's really damn good yet it's hard to find him in the TOP QB rankings.

Namath is a HOF QB who has more career INT's than TD's. The Morons call him great. Completion percentage of 50% and 62-63 record! He stunk!

  5. Lamar's added 12 pounds of muscle. He's up from 208 to 220. He said he feels great. Urban said he looks great. "Physically, he looks imposing," Quarterbacks Coach James Urban said. "This is a game built for big, strong, fast men. I think he's checking three of those boxes right now." Here he is training.

Likely doesn’t look or move like a traditional tight end, but if he keeps making eye-popping plays downfield and in the red zone — he caught multiple touchdown passes Thursday in addition to the spectacular near-miss — he will see the field come September....https://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/ravens/bs-sp-ravens-minicamp-observations-day-three-20220616-5qbabyqftfgjdaagyqrerfs2me-story.html

Harbaugh was vague about JK and Gus when saying, "They all have a chance (to return by camp.)" Faalele's conditioning is not holding up to the grind, speed and tempo of Ravens practices. He is the biggest player in the NFL and he went right from playing to getting ready for the draft. He's got 6 weeks to get in better condition. He's developmental player at this stage. He was getting beat like a drum in practice from what I hear. I also hear that he's very athletic for his size and it shows. He could be as good as Brown.

 “Rashod Bateman and James Proche. Bateman says, “We’re all tired of the Lamar slander.” Proche called the media disrespect of Jackson “barbaric.” “There’s only been one of him in this league,” Proche said.” :gorave:

    A screen!?

The Ravens completed a screen for about 20 yards in practice, which should have drawn a standing ovation.

The Ravens are one of the worst screen teams in the NFL, but on Tuesday, they faked a quick pass to the left and completed a dump-off to running back Justice Hill.

Here’s the best part: The Ravens had offensive linemen out in front blocking.

The Ravens got a look at five other players on a tryout basis: wide receiver Mustaqeem Williams, outside linebacker Steven Means, offensive linemen T.J. Storment and David Steinmetz, and long snapper Alex Matheson. Williams was a decorated track athlete at the University of Tennessee. Means has played parts of eight seasons in the NFL and spent part of 2014 with the Ravens. Steinmetz was with Washington the past two years. Storment and Matheson participated in the Ravens rookie minicamp.

    • With Bowser and Ojabo still not practicing and Odafe Oweh not participating in full-team drills after he had offseason shoulder surgery, the Ravens’ young edge rushers are getting the lion’s share of reps. Jeremiah Moon, an undrafted rookie out of Florida, made the most of them, touching down Jackson for a sack on one play. That prompted his defensive teammates to say “Moooooooon” in unison.

Lamar Jackson’s first throw in Tuesday’s full-team phase at Ravens mandatory minicamp was a touchdown to Rashod Bateman in a red-zone drill. His most and prettiest completions went to tight end Mark Andrews. In seven-on-seven work, Jackson spread the ball around and had completions on all of his attempts.:gorave: Ravens QB Lamar Jackson returns: ‘Having No. 8 back, everything is elevated’ - The Athletic

You can subscribe to Jeff and The Athletic for $1 a month. Well worth it.

We should get a lot of news today through Thursday and Friday then we have that long wait until the end of July for Training camp. I'm soaking up as much as I can.

  9. Good post and I agree with you.

Until JK and Gus return, I think Davis and Badie will fill in way better than the over the hill bunch from last year.

Every team has weaknesses. Heath and player development will determine how well the Ravens fill theirs.

I believe the glass is way more than 1/2 full and it is full of pleasant surprises if we look. The Ravens have many players who are set to make their mark this season.

Issues like guns, abortion, voting rights, gender issues, race, education policies and a host of others divide us. Where once we were willing to participate in reasonable conversations and come up with compromise solutions, whoever disagrees with us now is an enemy, not just on that one position but on all. The political culture is so toxic that most just withdraw entirely instead of engaging and sticking with it until solutions are found.

Demagogues, who have personal agendas for power, sow seeds of distrust and vitriol towards our government, the media, healthcare, education and our election process. They know, from examples like Hitler, Putin and other autocrats that if you repeat claims frequently and with conviction, you can whip up fears and win increasing numbers into your cult. Allow me to pause here. Some have taken offense in my calling Donald Trump the leader of a cult. The Oxford dictionary defines a cult: “a misplaced or excessive admiration for a particular person or  thing.” Satisfied? The so-called “silent majority” has implied acceptance to bullying, lies, distrust and our unity.

Not that Brown was a true deep threat, but he was... Now what? Thus early, teams will be able to play down in their coverage which will make running the ball, including Lamar running, very difficult. It will also make the short- intermediate passing game this team relies on, much harder over the middle where safeties will be able to hunt.

So, does Lamar finally learn how to timely, accurately throw outside the numbers, down field?

I'm not too worried about the defense, so many secondary players were out last year, I expect a healthy defense to be in the top 12 or better.

But this offense, yes I know they also had injuries, is what worries me most, that and man I have to cut back on soda, my gut is getting bigger....

this is some good food for thought. They stack the box every game and the Ravens haven't been able to burn them even with Brown. There is no replacement for Brown and his procution this year. The FA WR market has no options. Therefore the Ravens have to build a passing game with the players they have signed.

I see 50/50 run pass ratio. It was 60/40 in 2019. They will use 2-3 TE's, passing and running, to beat up the LB's and safeties. Bateman is the possession chain mover. Duverney occasional deep threat. Split receptions among Proche, Dobbind and Ricard.

Something like that and my gut is getting bigger....:gorave:

That is why it could be a trap game.  There is no tape.  They made a lot of good fixes. This is a very different Jets team than we are used to.  If we sleep on them we can pull the L.

It was a good draft for the Jets. Good off season moves.. How and why? Joe Douglas. Scout for the Ravens is now their GM. I expect another "Ravens North" situation just like when the Eagles raided the Ravens coaches, scouts and FO.

All that aside, Wilson and all his help will not suddenly turn good in his 1st week. He has a ways to go from 3-10. Peters, Humphrey, Williams, Hamilton and Ohweh will feast.

The Ravens spend all of camp getting ready for week 1. After last years loss to the Raiders and all the adversity that followed they will be on fire.

ason will not be a trap game for the Ravens. They prepare for opening day all off season. Harbaugh will have them ready.

  13. Then Jets were 4-13 last year. Their defense gave up a league worst 39.6 points per game. We'll be OK.

    October...4 B's...Bills Bengals, Browns, Bucs...tough stretch.

Then 3 AFC road games in Dec and Jan...3 on the road. Not fair!

Right now...until I know that Stanley, Boyle, Dobbins, Peters, Gus and Humphrey will be ready and 100% opening day I see a 9-8 Ravens team. Get them back healthy and...

  14. The Ravens have made a good haul of UDFA's. 6 receivers in that group. they should find one player there.

Preston says the season comes down to this now: "The success of the Ravens’ draft class and 2022 season will be determined by how well the team’s medical and training staff can rehabilitate and return their top players to the field." Mike Preston: Ravens’ draft deserves praise, but 2022 season will be determined by player health | COMMENTARY – Baltimore Sun

  15. I thought the Ravens had an excellent draft. Certainly, some players won't pan out. That happens to every team every year.

The Raven came into the draft with a massive list of needs, and it was never possible to address all of them. That does not make this a poor draft. They have until week 1 of the season to get more talent. In the end, it will be up to the coaches to make their units excellent with the players they have on hand. This is every year.

With this draft, and with Lamar, the Ravens now have a Super Bowl window of at least 2 years. :gorave:
