  1. Wink goes to the Giants and the raid on the Ravens talent begins. Watch...they'll be banging on the doors for Ravens coaches and scouts next year.

     — Today at 4:22 PM Giants are accumulating a deep group of ex-Ravens w/ waiver claim Tyre Phillips being the latest. Their 53-man includes Phillips, Ben Bredeson, Justin Ellis, Jihad Ward, Tyrod Taylor. Practice squad includes Jaylon Moore, Tony Jefferson, Chuck Wiley, Will Holden, C.J. Board (edited)

This is a statement on how weak the Giants roster is.

Losing Phillips pisses me off. He is better than Powers and Cleveland.

  2. I'm guessing guaranteed money is the hold up. I hope he's not asking for $230 mil guaranteed.

Here's some up to date information.

In regards to Ravens and Lamar Jackson, the team can point to Russell Wilson's deal as further evidence that Deshaun Watson's $230M guaranteed is an aberration.

Since Watson signed, two QBs have signed and neither have come close to him: Kyler Murray ($189.5M) and Wilson ($165M)

    3. Russell Wilson: $165M
    4. Aaron Rodgers: $150.7M
    5. Josh Allen: $150M

    3. Sam Darnold: Backup on his 2nd team (Panthers)
    7. Josh Allen: Betting favorite for NFL MVP
    10. Josh Rosen: Practice squad for Browns (6th team)
    32. Lamar Jackson: Former MVP (37-12 as starter)

Ronnie Stanley has passed his physical and been removed from the PUP list. Tyus Bowser (Achilles) has been placed on reserve PUP list, meaning he’ll miss first 4 games At least.
    [4:21 PM]
Ravens have also signed P Cameron Dicker. Presumably they’ll use Dicker and Stout tomorrow night and give Tucker night off.
    [4:26 PM]
Whether it’s via waivers, trade or street FA, It seems imperative that Ravens add an edge rusher over next week. Their current edge rushers are Odafe Oweh, Justin Houston, Steven Means, Daelin Hayes and UDFAs Jeremiah Moon and Chuck Wiley. Hayes has missed most of practice Wk.

Question now becomes whether there’s enough time for Stanley to be ready for Wk 1. That’s a little over 2 wks away. Team officials have said he’s in great shape but he hasn’t practiced since last September. Stanley felt like he rushed last year to play in wk 1 and he struggled

Solid article from Jeff Zrebiec. He covers all the positions and depth.

The O line is banged up to start the season and I hope this isn't a 2022 theme for them.

    Quote

A lot depends on health. Stanley is a major question mark for the start of the season. Faalele and Cleveland both got hurt in Sunday’s preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals and haven’t practiced this week. James has played just three games since 2019 because of myriad injuries. Linderbaum missed a chunk of training camp with a ligament issue in his foot. The Ravens need to know where they are health-wise before making any moves. However, if they are comfortable with their depth, the bet is the Ravens will deal one of their interior offensive linemen, perhaps two of them, if there is interest in Colon. Jimmy Murray and Kahlil McKenzie don’t figure to be in the 53-man mix, but veteran tackle David Sharpe’s chances shouldn’t be dismissed, especially if Stanley isn’t ready to go.... With cutdown day looming, where do Ravens have roster decisions to make? - The Athletic

  5. on everything you said tsyl.

I think we have the personnel to destroy the loaded box. I think these guys can come from behind.

I liked the title of this article because the Ravens are different, and they are very interesting and fun to watch.

Where the rest of the NFL zigs, the Baltimore Ravens zag.

Capable of beating anyone and seizing a third Super Bowl trophy, yet swimming against industry currents, the tight end-loving, fullback-employing Ravens go into the 2022 season as the NFL’s most interesting team.

The Ravens do it their way, and they do it well.  Column: The NFL's most interesting team isn't trendy, but it is dangerous (msn.com)

And the AP has an evaluation....

Expectations: The Ravens were among the group of teams that could reasonably shoot for a Super Bowl appearance before last season, and if you view 2021 as an injury-fueled aberration, those kinds of hopes are still plausible. Certainly anything less than a playoff spot would be a disappointment..... Ravens hope to return to playoffs after injury-filled 2021 (msn.com)

The 6 moves the Ravens made to get down to 80: WRs Jalyon Moore, Bailey Gaither, Slade Bolden; ILB Diego Fagot and OT Jaryd Jones-Smith were all waived. Bolden was waived-injured. And Gus Edwards to reserve PUP. With 3 WRs getting cut, the Ravens have 9 WRs on roster: Rashod Bateman, Devin Duvernay, James Proche, Tylan Wallace, Demarcus Robinson, Shemar Bridges, Makai Polk, Binjimen Victor, Raleigh Webb.
Proche has been out a few wks w/soft-tissue injury. Tylan Wallace returned today.

  8. Run grade? D.  Am I worried about that? :nono:

Yea...12 penalties for166 yards, really bad. The major negatives forme were the Jones injury and no running game.

Only 9 targets for the WR's. What's that say?

They released Moore which tells me they know what they have and wich way they want to go.

Watch the Ravens line Likely up as a WR. Bateman on 1 side. Likely on the other. Boyle and Andrew's at the other TE positions. 1 .2...3 ..destroy

  9. Some observations....

NFL Preseason Week 2 Game Recap: Baltimore Ravens 24, Arizona Cardinals 17 - PFF

    OFFENSIVE LINE

    • Center Trystan Colon and guard Ben Cleveland were the standouts along Baltimore’s line, going without a pressure allowed across 17 and 23 pass-blocking snaps, respectively.

Tyre Phillips rebounded from a rough preseason Week 1 to give up only one quarterback hurry on 25 pass-blocking snaps. He surrendered six pressures in last week’s outing.

    DEFENSIVE LINE

    • Rookie Travis Jones tallied a pressure and three other winning reps before exiting with a knee injury. He is on track to lead the defensive line in pass-rushing grade on his 16 snaps, pending review.

    • Although Brent Urban handled just four run-defense snaps, he made two run stops.

    LINEBACKER

    • Undrafted free agent rookie Josh Ross earned his second straight 90.0-plus PFF grade, pending review, after allowing only nine yards on three catches in coverage. Ross also tallied two run stops.

Malik Harrison joined Ross in making a run stop, and he earned an 80.0-plus grade on first review for his efforts.

    SECONDARY

    • Arizona quarterbacks repeatedly targeted Brandon Stephens, who gave up four catches on seven targets for 43 yards.

    • Rookie Pepe Williams snagged an interception and surrendered only a four-yard catch on three targets in coverage.

Ben Powers, who is expected to start at left guard for Ravens, is now at center. John Harbaugh: "So, if Ben can do that, it's always an addition to your career. It helps you, and it helps us. He could be a starting guard, but [also] be an emergency center if you lose enough guys"
    [8:47 PM]
Ravens rookie fourth-round OT Daniel Faalele is down on the ground and being looked at by trainers. He initially grabbed his right knee after getting rolled up on from an inside run.

John Harbaugh greets Jordan Stout with a high-five after the rookie punter hit a 50-yarder that was downed at the Cardinals' 3-yard line.

You're seeing early tonight why Ravens are so excited about their rookie class. Linderbaum and Ojabo aren't playing and Hamilton been quiet, but Likely making plays, Travis Jones getting penetration throughout that drive. Stout pinning Ari inside 5. Damarion Williams involved
    [9:03 PM]
Rookie fourth round pick Daniel Faalele back at RT too after injury scare last drive. Colon now in at center. So Mekari and Powers each get one drive at center before Colon enters.

With Lamar Jackson being held out, QB Tyler Huntley has completed 91% of his passes in the Ravens' first two preseason games.

He's completed 29-of-32 passes for 238 yards and two TDs. That's a passer rating of 118.4. :gorave:

John Harbaugh: Ravens rookie DT Travis Jones has a hyperextended knee. He will be out for the rest of the preseason. Harbaugh said it's not a serious injury that will keep him out for a significant amount of time.:(

But 14 and hasn't been able to seize the starting spot?

Clark has the green dot and calls the defenses. Hamilton is too young and inexperienced to do that as a rookie. Marcus Williams us a top 5 Safety in the NFL. The Ravens need his experience and play making ability.

  12. Right now, they are throwing the whole playbook at Hamilton. Trying him out everywhere to see where he fits and how they can use him. There's going to be a learning curve and he's smart enough, athletic enough and focused enough to master his role.... whatever that will be. He'll develop and prove why he's #14. Clark is having an outstanding camp and Marcus Williams is a savvy vet FS. Then there's Stone and Jefferson who are having great camps. This is a great problem to have.

    The D is loaded.

    1. Baltimore Ravens

Explaining their struggles from last year—the Ravens ranked 28th in efficiency—is pretty simple: They were decimated by injuries, and they were schematically predictable. The defense finished 31st in AGL, and the Ravens had the most-injured secondary in the NFL. That was a disastrous formula for a group whose identity was to blitz and play man coverage.

This offseason, John Harbaugh replaced defensive coordinator Don Martindale with Mike Macdonald. The goal is to be more varied and be more flexible—essentially, to be able to find different answers for different problems.

The Ravens have talent. They finished in the top 10 in DVOA for five consecutive seasons prior to 2021. Baltimore signed safety Marcus Williams and nose tackle Michael Pierce in free agency; they brought back veteran defensive lineman Calais Campbell and edge defender Justin Houston; and they used the 14th pick on safety Kyle Hamilton and the 76th pick on defensive tackle Travis Jones.

Add it all up—better injury luck, better talent, more flexibility—and I see a defense that’s likely to make the biggest leap of any on this list.:gorave:

    • Running back Justin Hill made a decisive move to beat linebacker Josh Bynes down the sideline to catch a 45-yard touchdown pass from Jackson. Hill looks just as quick, if not quicker, than he was before last year's season-ending torn Achilles.
    • Jackson had another crisp day throwing the ball. One of his best tosses came under duress in the end zone, when he calmly whipped a side-armed pass to Proche, who was about 20 yards downfield. The throw was right on the money.
    • Veteran defensive lineman Calais Campbell deflected a couple passes with his 6-foot-8 wing span and engulfed Corey Clement in the backfield before one running play could barely get started.
    • Outside linebackers Odafe Oweh and Justin Houston brought the heat often on pass rushes. Oweh had a safety during a come of the goal line drill and Houston also notched a sack during 11-on-11s  Kyle Hamilton Gets First Interception of Training Camp (baltimoreravens.com)
