Yea...the rule has to be tweaked...and that's the genius of Belichek. He saw a flaw in the rule...a grey area, an area that he could exploit to his advantage and attacked it. As the saying goes; "In confusion, there is profit."
Glad you posted this topic dc. The Ravens didn't need to read the rule book. The refs did. They did not let the Ravens know who was declared eligible and who was declared ineligible and allow then time to adjust. How often have you heard a ref announce "#63 is an eligible receiver" over the PA? Now that I know why Harbaugh drew the penalty I'm glad that he did. It was the only thing he could do or the Pats would have run up 2 more scores using this lapse in fair gamesmanship. What the Pats did was legal. Deception is part of the game. What the Refs did was aid the deception. Basically they knew a receiver was ineligible and would not give that knowledge to the Ravens...so they were "in on it" with the Pats.
I agree. The Ravens are at the 41. Plenty of time and they could run and throw. Then again...what got them to the 41? A 4th and 3 conversion...kind of desperate because they couldn't move the chains....so I think Joe wanted to strike and to a TD any time, any way he could. If it's there going conservative and trying to run clock might not be such a good thing. So he took the shot.
Melvin missed tackles and Elam needs to learn how to wrap up or go play elsewhere.... Safeties are the last line of defense. If they can't tackle then they shouldn't be allowed to play.
This is our Ravens and they gave everything they had. This season ended way better than last which leaves a lot to build on. As we all know...getting to the Super Bowl and winning it is no easy feat. It's been 10 years since the Pats won one. Lots of traps and pitfalls along the way. Luck and good fortune is involved too. I'd say the Ravens were 1 Jimmy Smith away this year.
Ok....there's 2:14 left on the clock in the 4th quarter. Ravens down by 4. It's 4th and 3 at the Ravens 42. Joe hits Daniels for 17 yards to the NE 41. 2 minute warning. How many of you thought a miracle finish was about to happen and the Ravens were about to win this game?
Amazing run this season. Think about it...no Pita, Webb wrecks his back...Rice craps out...lose Jimmy Smith...Wager goes down..Monroe's out....and then everybody in the secondary goes down multiple times and the mad scramble to patch something together because the games keep coming up every Sunday. This 2014 Ravens team should hold their heads high. Thank You Ravens!
DANIELS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2 minutes warning....4 downs all the way...must score a TD. Ravens fans I want a win as bad as you, but our team has represented well.
