I really hope you're right cleetz. These thoughts came on me after watching the Titan D today. They were great in 2008 (#2 in points surrendered) and have basically the same personel this year only they are bad. Ugly bad today. A closer look says the Ravens have a very solid front 7. They have a solid core up the middle in Ngata, Lewis and Reed. The D line has outstanding talent...a lot more than the '96 roster. In '97 the Ravens had McCrary, Goose, Burnett and James Jones...not bad. Boulware, Lewis and Sharper at LB....pretty good. Uh Oh! Langham, Jenkins, Moore and rookie Herring in the secondary. They gave up 335 points. So I see something very similar here. That is unless Foxworth, Washington and Walker can get it together in a hurry.

So what do you do with your #1 pick in the 2010 draft cleetz? Draft a WR or Corner? We're on empty at both spots in 2010.

I can't shake this black cloud feeling regarding the 2009 Ravens defense. I don't think they can fix this without getting better players. Which means wait until next season. It's still feels like yesterday...watching the '96 and '97 D's...give up game after game. The coaches were great. Lewis, Smith, Del Rio, Ryan. Nevertheless the D couldn't stop anybody. 4th quarters were nightmares to watch. No lead was safe. The only answer was to get better personel. It was mainly a weak secondary that was the cause and guess what? Ground Hog Day 2009! It's 6 games now and the jury is in. This 2009 Ravens secondary....can't cover. Can't make plays. Ozzie's off season moves haven't panned out. He's got his band aids in Washington and Walker still on the field this year. Foxworth is not getting the job done. Letting Leonard go and keeping Landry has caused a drop off and more problems. Carr is a bust. They haven't drafted or developed a good corner since McAlister in '99. 10 years! Well...they are about to pay for it in the demise of a once great defense. I can't shake that black cloud feeling because I know horrendous secondary play is one sure way to kill a good defense.

They had a moment...the Ray Lewis sack...that 3 and out...when they looked like former Ravens defenses. I had that same feeling dc. It's the offense that gives me hope. Joe, Rice, Mason, Heap, the line...Clayton, Washington...

BTW...Walkers penalty didn't stop Berrian from catching the ball any way. He couldn't properly mug the guy and stop the completion.

It's amazing how the Titans could fall apart so quickly from last year. 13-3...They had the 7th ranked D and were #2 in the all important 'Points Surrendered' catagory. Now...they suck, really suck. I hope this doesn't happen to the Ravens D?

The secondary has stopped nobody throwing to the intermediate middle of the field (over the LB's in front of the safeties). Every WR who runs the slant is open. The coverage is not there...at all. That's one I blame on Mattison...the pattern has existed all season. The rest?....here's my answer DC... If your students are sub morons...(dumber than morons)...they can't learn the US Constitution. You only failed because you tried to teach them that instead of putting a mop in their hands...

I heard Bruce Laid say it's not Mattison's fault. He's teaching them, coaching them, and linning them up right. He said it's about "Allighnment, Assignment and Technique" They are being taught that, but those players are not doing that.

Favre and Peterson both had outstanding games yet the Ravens could have won at the last second because they countered with outstanding players in Flacco and Rice. That does count for something...a lot IMO.

The Ravens did nothing in the 1st half...Haush didn't lose this game. Slow start by the O...poor secondary coverage over the middle of the field...blown assignments...and the penalties. The Ravens are beating themselves.

Ray had tears in his eyes in the post game press conference but they were tears of pride for his team mates. He stood up for them and said they know they can score at will and that they are close to starting games fast. When that happens look out. His heart is a big as the other Ray.

This deserves a whole new thread OTR. I'm thinking like you....with one exception... Marvin could not get his D to perform until he got corners in McAlister and Starks. In '96 and '97 the offense was very good but the defense stopped nobody. Mattison can only do so much with this secondary.
