thesteelhurtin Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Way to cut your leading tackler from the last 3 years over a 4 million dollar signing bonus when you're way under the cap. I hope D'Qwell Jackson is in the black and gold next year. Quote
ravinmaniac52 Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 I think he would look good purple and black. 1 Quote
ravinmaniac52 Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Free agent D'Qwell Jackson's phone apparently has been on a constant vibrate since the Cleveland Browns released the linebacker Wednesday. A person informed of Jackson's plans tells NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport that the eight-year veteran has already scheduled visits with five teams, including the Tennessee Titans and Denver Broncos. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000329706/article/dqwell-jackson-schedules-visits-with-broncos-titans Quote

papasmurfbell Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/03/11/report-karlos-dansby-browns-agree-on-four-year-deal/ Report: Karlos Dansby, Browns said to agree on four-year dealThe Browns are reportedly poised to use free agency to bolster their linebacking corps.Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reports that he’s “hearing” the Browns and Cardinals free agent linebacker Karlos Dansby have the workings of a four-year, $24 million deal, with $14 million guaranteed.Multiple reports have the Browns as a serious suitor for Dansby, with NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reporting that Cleveland had become the top candidate to land the 32-year-old linebacker, who projects inside in the Browns’ 3-4 scheme.Dansby filled up the stat sheet for Arizona in 2013, notching 122 tackles, defending 19 passes, recording 6.5 sacks and intercepting four passes. He returned a pair of picks for scores.Dansby checks in at No. 23 on PFT’s Free Agent Hot 100. He is the top-ranked inside linebacker in free agency. If the deal with the Browns is finalized — and it cannot even be officially offered until 4 p.m. Eastern — he will be counted upon to replace the production of the departed D’Qwell Jackson, who signed with Indianapolis last week after being released. This may turn out to be another really stupid Browns deal. ravinmaniac52 Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 Don't trust Dansby. He ran for the money once before and fell on his face. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 Yeah I think that could be a bad deal for them. It looks like they might be stacking some bad contracts. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/03/11/browns-apparently-are-breaking-the-bank/ Browns apparently are breaking the bankAsked to make a bold prediction on Monday’s edition of Pro Football Talk on NBCSN, I suggested that the Browns would resist the temptation to spend a bunch of cash and cap space to eradicate the stink of controversy after controversy after controversy in Cleveland.I suggested wrong. With linebacker Karlos Dansby reportedly agreeing to terms before the time for agreeing to terms has come and likewise doing the same for safety Donte Whitner, the Browns are spending plenty. Especially if they’re anywhere to Whitner’s asking price, believed to be $8.5 million annually. And they could spend more if they opt to trade for the contract of cornerbackDarrelle Revis, who would be as close to home as possible without playing for the Steelers. If they don’t get Revis, look for them to spend on someone else.It would make much more football sense to wait, as to all these moves. But football sense often doesn’t drive the decisions made in the early days of free agency. In Cleveland, other concerns will be pushing the Browns’ effort to do a cannonball in the Cuyahoga. Quote

vmax Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 In news that should surprise no one -- least of all Brandon Weeedone -- the Browns' 2012 first-round pick has been released, the team announced Wednesday. The team's other healthy quarterback -- Jason Campbell -- was also given his walking papers, leaving Brian Hoyer on the roster. Quote
vmax Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 Inside linebackers, like running back, is a position you shouldn't have to overpay for, especially when you are signing a 32-year-old. Dansby was cut by Miami after the 2012 season and had to accept a $2.25 million deal in 2013. Now the Browns are going to pay Dansby $10 million in 2014 and $14 million over two seasons. You get worse in free agency by getting older and paying sub-Pro Bowl players like superstars. The talent around Dansby in Arizona was a big factor in his huge campaign.Paying Donte Whitner huge money to replace safety T.J. Ward was also curious. He's made strides in pass coverage, but there's a reason the 49ers didn't try that hard to keep him. Quote
