varaven45 Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 It's way early in season but Hunter ain't cutting it as a the closer. He cost us a win in the 9th and these games take their toll on a team struggling to score runs on mediocre pitchers who we make look like Palmer, McNally and Cuellar. Quote
dc. Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 ... Rushing to judgment much? I am as skeptical as anyone and was since day one we traded JJ... but Hunter has given up one run and you're calling it a day? Quote
varaven45 Posted April 13, 2014 Author Posted April 13, 2014 It's early, he's only given up a run, but he's been very Don Stanhouse like thus far. If you don't mind smoking a six pack in the late innings, Hunter may well be your man. Quote
dc. Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Hunter will give up the long ball. Others will give up the walk or the double. Take your pick. We ran the single-giver with 100+ saves in two seasons out of town. What's left is what's left. You don't find Mariano every day of the week. Hunter is the least of this teams problems... No starting pitching beyond Tillman and no clutch bats or on base percentage.. No runs. Quote
varaven45 Posted April 14, 2014 Author Posted April 14, 2014 Agreed on Hunter being the least of our problems Our offense is making every pitcher look like Cy Young. Geez ! Quote
varaven45 Posted April 24, 2014 Author Posted April 24, 2014 After tonight's victory at Toronto, I am convinced that Tommy Hunter is the 2014 version of Don Stanhouse. Quote
dc. Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Which many knew and said coming in and which has always been his rep... The question is what do you want to do in terms of a closer on this team right now because there aren't lots of other options. The best may be Britton but I think given his performance in long relief we probably want to hold him for some spot starts. The real answer is this team has committed to Hunter and that's all there is to it for now... Quote
cravnravn Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Nobody is running away with the al east, I'm content with Hunter right now Quote
varaven45 Posted April 24, 2014 Author Posted April 24, 2014 Just make sure you have your pack of smokes ready for all those "fun" 9th innings Quote
varaven45 Posted April 24, 2014 Author Posted April 24, 2014 Yeah. Zantac too - a whole seasons supply Quote
varaven45 Posted May 14, 2014 Author Posted May 14, 2014 He's back. Bucks gotta make a move with Home Run Hunter as our closer . He is single handedly blowing our season. Don't know who but Hunter has to be shot mentally and psychologically. Btw- can anyone explain why ODay couldn't pitch the 9th knowing exactly this is what Hunter was going to do. If this organization has any chance of winning this year, they need to find another closer and now. There's time to right the ship while it's only May. Get er done ! Quote
varaven45 Posted May 14, 2014 Author Posted May 14, 2014 Yep. Amazingly though we're still a game and a half in first place. Should be 2 1/2 games up. Buck has to find somebody internally or acquire. somebody but he's got to get another closer in there now. Quote
varaven45 Posted May 14, 2014 Author Posted May 14, 2014 Crav, that's classic! We were vacationing in Florida last month I ran into an Os fan 20 in new Smyrna Beach. He told me that homerun Hunter was going to take the team down this year. I walked away laughing but then started to scratch my head a couple minutes later. Now I completely understand. Quote
cravnravn Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Nice, the sea turtles have started nesting on New Smyrna beach, We were over there Sunday, it was PACKED, they closed the gates at 12:30, it was packed to capacity, glad I didnt take my surf rod down.. Quote
GrubberRaven Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Nothing about this team is consistent...we never fire on all cylinders...beyond frustrating Quote
varaven45 Posted May 14, 2014 Author Posted May 14, 2014 And grubber just think , despite the disfunctionality we're still one a half games up in first place. Go figure! Quote
varaven45 Posted May 14, 2014 Author Posted May 14, 2014 But if I am Showalter I am getting my crap together with the closer ASAP before this team takes a huge plunge south Quote

I have a few leads on rental stuff but didn't know if you had any inside scoop . Any suggestions . Quote
dc. Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Not sure how's single handedly doing anything... Only two losses on his books. But yes, I'm done. Still wondering where we go next... Britton? Quote
