varaven45 Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 Over the next month, 10 series and roughly 30 games, the Os will face all winning teams - including home and away series with the very strong AL West - Oak, LA, and Seattle. Its a very, very challenging next month with series against Division rival NY and NL power St Louis thrown in the mix. We wont face a sub .500 team until facing Cleveland (not exactly a slouch either) in mid-August. Folks, we will learn a lot about this team and its post season aspirations in the next 30 games. Quote
cravnravn Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 Im just worried about the East and this upcoming Yankmees series, the media pundits have already given the American League Pennant to Oakland, let them flounder with that.. Anyone else notice, Manny getting hot? Quote
GrubberRaven Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 I can accept Tillman and his flaws...he's still under a cheap contract. Jimenez aggravates the living shit out of me...4 years for $50 Million...if our pitching doesn't hold up over this stretch...we'll know where we're going... Quote

Jimenez aggravates the living shit out of me...4 years for $50 Million...if our pitching doesn't hold up over this stretch...we'll know where we're going...The problem is so many people were bitching that the O's should just sign someone. They got him cheap and he still wasn't worth it. Quote
varaven45 Posted July 9, 2014 Author Posted July 9, 2014 Now that the Hammel and Schamdizina................................... ship has sailed to Oakland, I don't know what top line SP is left. Price is too damn expensive for tightwad PA and our organization.Still, we would be wise to sign a craft vet for the stretch run. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 It is not like the Rays would trade him in div. Quote
varaven45 Posted July 9, 2014 Author Posted July 9, 2014 True, but we likely wouldn't acquire if he was from the NL West. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 Also th eRays have gotten really hot lately. Can they keep it up? Time will tell. They broke from the norm when they didn't sell Price before. Quote
dc. Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 I don't think that As trade will work out- this year or long run. Both guys they got are pitching beyond anything they have before and are moving NL to AL. Not to mention both have high WHIPs with low HR rates. Oakland will keep the low HR rates but will be trouble for the hits in general - lots of space there. When both regress to norms for the second half, it won't look good. And then you gave up how many younger players to get that? Oakland is damn good - but not sure they'll keep it up. And I still don't buy some of their bats, especially guys like Crisp and even Donaldson who's bar has crashed mid year for the second straight season. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 I always look at NL pitchers with skepticism. When the question came up about the O's trading for Samarja I thought it was a foolish idea. Quote
varaven45 Posted July 9, 2014 Author Posted July 9, 2014 Another vet arm in Aug/Sep could pay off. Well see . I am not holding my breath . Quote
papasmurfbell Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 I see Bundy in the rotation sometime in Aug. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 True. He will come up and nobody has really seen him. It costs them nothing to use him. Quote
varaven45 Posted July 9, 2014 Author Posted July 9, 2014 An interesting albeit pennypinching strategy that we've all grown accustomed to yet also weary of during the PA regime. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted July 11, 2014 Posted July 11, 2014 Retweeted by Ken WeinmanBryan Hoch @BryanHoch 5mCashman: Masahiro Tanaka has a partially torn ligament in his throwing arm. Will have one PRP injection. Tear is considered small. I think the yanks are out of this now baring a big trade. Quote
