There's about to be a few more jobs in the NFL. Each of the league's 32 teams will be allowed to carry 10 players on their practice squad this season, according to ESPN.com. That's up from eight players in 2013.

The plan for the expanded practice squad is expected to be in place by Aug. 26, when teams are required to cut down from 90 to 75 players. After cutting down to 75 players, each team will have to trim its roster down to 53 players by Aug. 30. Teams can then begin to sign players to their practice squad on Aug. 31.

A player has to clear through waivers before being added to a team's practice squad. The addition of two players to each practice squad will create 64 more spots for players hoping to make it in the NFL.

Think that will happen when they expand the season

I could see it before. Expanded rosters is a rare issue where the owners and NFLPA agree. Not sure if the NFLPA wants an expanded season yet.

As far as an expanded season: what does everyone think of a 17 game season, 3 preseason games? The extra game is an annual AFC-NFC rivalry game for each team with home-field switching each year. For example, an annual Ravens-Skins game, or Steelers-Eagles. Think rivalry week in college football. The game could be played the first or second game of the season when the hype would be greatest to kick off the a new season.
