vmax Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Good point by Joe Platania... But Baltimore has started games even more poorly than it has finished them.OPENING DRIVES HAVE NETTED NO POINTS, FIVE PUNTS, FUMBLE.....The Ravens and Houston Texans -- two teams that have three wins between them -- are the only ones in the NFL that haven't scored an opening-drive point this year.....http://www.pressboxonline.com/2015/10/21/ravens-slow-starts-just-as-damaging-as-flat-finishes Bad starts. Bad endings. Head scratching performances in between. Quote
varaven45 Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 Which makes it all the more incredible we are ranked 7th in total offense (yards) and 9th in points. All that with no offensive identity, no WRs (sans SSS) and a grossly underutilized running game. A tad misleading? Probably, but still interesting. Now, imagine the O with a healthy Perriman, another WR, a running attack and a creative OC. Doesn't help the Woeful D but just sayin ..... Quote
papasmurfbell Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 The Ravens have been a slow started for yrs. The difference now is the slow finishes. Quote
dc. Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 The yardage thing is actually not that surprising... when you are trailing, especially late in games, you have to play for big plays and big yardage and you frequently get to do it against defenses that are willing to give a bit of ground but not the big play. It's what the Lions have always had such nice offensive numbers - in total - if not in per play or actual drive outcome. It's also like the fact that losing passers typically have big numbers because they throw so darn much; 50-60 attempts will get you a lot of yards. But if you look at the stats, QBs tend to have worse records when they throw 50-60 times... It's also kind of like baseball stats that say a pitcher "has a better era after the 6th inning..." ... Well, duh. If you aren't pitching well, you don't make it past the 6th. If you are, you get to keep pitching and suddenly those later innings look nicer all around. But it's not some magic about late innings. Meanwhile, Papa... "pick machine"? That's mean. As if Joe's our problem. Quote
varaven45 Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 Yep, the dysfunctional red zone offense has been crippling. It's been this way for years (sans Joe's SB run a few years ago) Quote

It was the same back in 96, Vinne, Derrick, Michael, the offense couldn't be stopped, except when they got lazy and stopped them selves. The defense showed flashes, but could not stop a pee-wee team.
