vmax Posted August 5, 2018 Posted August 5, 2018 At the moment, with very little evidence because of how early everything is, the running game concerns me the most. The back ups runners Thursday night didn't show anything.Dixon can't be counted on.That leaves Collins and Allen. Both were solid last year. The backups on the O line Thursday night were not fundamentally sound and completely out of sync. They lost most match ups. So the hope is that the return of Lewis and Yanda brings back the stability and cohesiveness of the line. Maybe Brown helps with the road grading. Williams and Boyle will help too. Also, if the passing game improves, then that will set up the run by stopping teams from putting 8 in the box. They have 4 pre season games to come together as a unit.I would like to see a 50/50 run pass ratio this pre season because both elements need work and experience. Quote
oldno82 Posted August 5, 2018 Posted August 5, 2018 I mostly agree. I do think the running game will be fine but the pass protection of the backups was piss poor. Our QBs were under tremendous pressure all night. That's my biggest area of concern right now. Really glad to see injuries are down. Sure hope it stays that way. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted August 5, 2018 Posted August 5, 2018 A couple of those sacks later in the game were the fault of the RB. He chose the wrong person to block. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted August 6, 2018 Posted August 6, 2018 BTW Zues Jr needs to work hard on his pass pro. He is going to be a holding machine if he doesn't. His run blocking is spectacular though. Quote
vmax Posted August 8, 2018 Author Posted August 8, 2018 Looks like there are 2 more concerns that carry over from last year. The linebackers struggle in coverage and my confidence in Weddle and Jefferson in their coverage skills is low. The good news is that it's beginning to look like the front 7 are getting consistent pressure of the QB which hides a lot of sins. We'll have a better evaluation tomorrow night. The Rams are fast with a lot of offensive weapons. Quote
oldno82 Posted August 8, 2018 Posted August 8, 2018 I agree. Along with offensive line depth those are my concerns as well. But it takes more than one season to make a team a real contender and they've made a lot of progress in other areas. Quote
Tornado700 Posted August 9, 2018 Posted August 9, 2018 Max- I believe that our running game is one of our biggest strength's this year. They will be OK in this area of the offense. Keeping Joe upright is scaring me the most. Our D will be solid top10. Quote
