With no one really stepping up in the middle linebacker position for, well, since Lewis left. Queen has been a big disappointment, even with the move from mike to sam. Bynes has been serviceable, but he is aging and limited. Smith is 25, a good 8 years left in his tank. He tackles very well, strong in run support, covers the middle in pass coverage very well and, he knows how to get to and take down quarterbacks for key sacks.
