Dont we have a physical shut down CB already ?

This may have been covered. Is CMAC under contract? Its so damn hard to find and develop great CBs, let alone

one's with size. We have one. I never really did understand any of the media issues around CMAC. He has always been a lone wolf kind of dude but never a team cancer. Everyone talks about Linebackers. Ozzie can pull good LBs out of his arse wilst he sleeps, but to me good CBs are the second hardest players to find behind QBs. Starters that is, there are lots of backup CBs and QBs to be had. I say whatever the beef with CMAC is we mend it. Another Rodgers-Cromartie is not likely to pop up 2 years in a row. Member the bad ole days, when the Ravens had no defense. One of the reasons - no corners. Dont want to fall back to that. Whoever gets CMAC gets a master craftsman with some good years left.

Here are two quotes that sum the situation up:

The Ravens are expected to part ways with cornerback Chris McAlister, but neither Bisciotti nor Harbaugh would commit to that:

"If he fits into our plans, he will" be back, Bisciotti said. "But with the salary cap, that's what you're looking at constantly."

Said Harbaugh: "If he wants to be a Raven, we'll see how it shakes out over the new few months."

In other words, if Cmac is back to 100%, I am sure he would be in our plans. However, we might need his cap space to re-sign cornerstone players such as Suggs and Jay Brown.

C-Mac is amazing he will be back next year bank on it. Maybe he'll reconstruct his contract for the team maybe not but, either way we have to keep him. I don't think Bart Scott is someone worth resigning to cut Mcalister.

We wouldn't be cutting C-Mac to resign Scott... we would be cutting C-Mac to resign Suggs and Lewis (and potentially a FA corner).

Honestly... it's not Bart Scott that will get McAlister cut. Nor is it his ability.

It's his attitude.

He is one of a select few players to have pretty staunchly stood against John Harbaugh. Ed Reed was borderline there at times. Terrell Suggs was borderline there at times. Frank Walker, Willis McGahee were both there. CMac was the gang's leader.

And if you think that after an 11-5 season with a trip to the AFC Championship that Ozzie Newsome and the front office are going to side with any player, even Ray Lewis, over the coaching staff or the team as a whole... you're wrong.

McAlister will be gone because he no longer fits in with this club. The talent may be hard to replace, but I think Newsome and Harbaugh would rather have a million Le'Ron McClains, Jim Leonhards and Jason Browns (i.e. guys that may not be perfect in form or function) than a handful of CMacs.

Yep, there is a definite changing of the guard at CB. We need to get rid of the dead wood at this position.

Had we had decent CB's this year, we win the Tenn or any of the Steeler games.

This has been our weak link for the past 2-3 years or more. Its is a huge understatement that we we need a fresh, staunch pair of corners to complement the D. Now. We can keep Washington and maybe Rolle and Walker (for backup and nickel situations ONLY) but we need to let Cmac, Ivy walk and pick up some legit CBs via draft or FA.

I like the CB from Utah (SI's Don Banks has us projected to get) and the kid from Vandy (see Mel Kiper's mock).

Thats a start; but we probably need to get one proven vet to fill the void by Cmac or Rolle's departure.

I am absolutely convinced that, other than WR, this is only position that prevents us from from being an elite team and having the ability to CONSISTENTLY stop the passing games of Ben R, Tom Brady, Peyton M (who we will all see next year).

In Ozzie I trust !

The media is the only one that has said anything about the attitude not Harbaugh or Mcalister. It's all media speculation. He did have an injury and I believe he violated a dress code. After the dress code violation he was too hurt to play. I think people are reading too much into it. If he is going to be a locker room cancer then trade him but, I don't see Mcalister as a cancer just a little nuisance at worst.

I know the guy is the inspiration for your screen name and all, but take the blinders off a bit.

Harbaugh hasn't sad a bad word about anyone all season - on our team or any other. It's not his style. But when he keeps his mouth shut and keeps to the textbook, as he has on CMac, and when a player mysteriously finds himself benched and then not talked about... you can be there is some underlying tension.

And as for CMac? He said his piece and it mostly was kosher, but it wasn't too nice. The consistent "Ask John, Ask John" responses are another code for "We aren't getting along or communicating well."

Perhaps most notable should be CMac's absolute disappearance from this team. I know he's on IR, but have we even seen or heard from him recently? Has he been at games and on sidelines? Then again, I haven't seen anyone that's been IR'd (Boller, Gregg)... but most of the others were pre-season... and Gregg we've heard that he'll be back, for sure.

The CBs (including Cmac) are our weak link- have been for 2-3 yrs. We need to get younger and quick before we start gettting routinely worked by Ben R, Peyton M., etc. As it stands, we are only periodically worked by the good QBs.

We need to stop the CB bleeding this offseason.

I believe Oz and Co will do it !

I would be slightly more confident if we had addressed the position a little better last offseason... Fabian was a nice addition, but he wasn't nearly enough. I guess they were expecting a lot more out of Frank Walker... hopefully this year they draft a corner or two early... I'd much rather have a 1st or 2nd rounder who can grow into a pro bowler than a temporary fix like Frank. Hopefully they learned their lesson.

I disagree. He was supposed to be the #5 corner. And he played better than maybe any other team's #5 corner this year.

If he was supposed to be the #5 corner, then that goes back to my original point of poor planning. Calling him the #5 corner means that you actually were banking on C-Mac and Samari playing the entire season.

That's the same as saying that we should have some excellent player as our #3 quarterback, because Flacco is young or what have you. You can't have the best players around in every slot on the roster. The fact is that Walker is a damn good corner for what should be expected of him and where he falls on our depth chart. Sure, we need more help, if only because our stars are aging/dead weight, but you can't call that situation poor planning, because it wasn't.

Yeah it was, because they didn't bring in guys capable of starting when C-Mac and Rolle inevitably lost time due to injury. Ivy, Washington, and Walker are all backups. Not drafting a CB at all, when we had a chance to draft several good ones, was poor planning. We placed too much on our starters staying healthy, and it cost us big time. CB is no more of a need this offseason than it was last offseason. We were 5-11 because of our lack of depth at CB and limited pass rush. We got our pass-rush back to an extent with Pryce returning, but our CB's were still a huge problem all year. Fabian played well, but one corner was not going to fix all the problems we had in 2007. I'm not knocking Walker as a #5 corner. I'm knocking the fact that we didn't have backups for the #1 and #2 corner spots.

You can't plan to have your #1 and #2 CB's out with injuries, any team that that happens to should be fucked, BUT because Oz DID plan so well, we had Fabian at #3 and Walker at #5 as solid options. This year, since it is obvious CMac is washed up and Rolle will never have a full season, we probably will grab another corner, but Ozzie planned last year and that's why we had Fabian and Walker, anyone saying we didn't plan for that is an idiot.

You haven't a shred of evidence to support this garbage. And then in another post, further demonstrating your irrational dislike for Chris, you blast him for not being around during his rehab and make excuses for guys like Gregg not being around during theirs. Do the words credibility, integrity or reasonableness have any meaning whatsoever to you?

Sometimes it's better to remain silent and have people think you a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

So you're telling me that you don't consider Mike Preston credible, integrable, and reasonable? What is this world coming to?

Is this your first season as a Ravens fan? Did you even watch the 2007 season at all? Rolle and McAlister actually combined for more games this season than they did last season.

By not bringing in solid, STARTING-level backups for C-Mac and Rolle, who were likely going to miss a ton of games this season, Ozzie took a gamble. And he lost it.

This is comical, you want Oz to bring in starting level backups for both corner spots??? That's really smart, considering theres a salary cap and all... We should just waste all our money to have 4 starting level corners.... Second most idiotic thing I've ever heard, only to your comment that "CMac and Rolle were both likely to miss a ton of games this season." Yea, how in the fuck do you know that a player is gonna miss a ton of games? Neither looked like they would.
