vmax Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 The Jones signing is a mistake. You would think after TJ, Stallworth and Evans they would stop the insanity. The Ravens don't need an empty shirt on the field. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted July 10, 2012 Author Posted July 10, 2012 I agree. If they feared in the return game draft Reads replacement. Don't overspend on a guy for no reason. Quote
cravnravn Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Ehhh Gads, well Oz, no one ever suggested you were a WR producing machine.. Come on TD Torrey make it so Jones dont see the field..That is alot of money to have on the pine though. Quote

thundercleetz Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 I am not worried about Jones. He is out there to stretch the field and keep defenses honest. We have plenty of young guys behind him to push him if he starts to slip. Jones also provides us with a tall redzone target, something we did not have last season. Last year we were dependent on Evans because everyone behind him was unknown. This year if Jones fails, it's not a big deal. Low risk, high reward in my book. Quote
yagersports Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 I'm thinking we're due for a redemption story aren't we? Honestly, even if he doesn't pan out, we've got a bunch a WR's on this roster. (Did I just actually say that? I don't think I've ever been able to say that about the Ravens before lol) Veteran presences are always a good thing. Quote
vmax Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Eisenberg on Jones... But is he ready to be the No. 3 receiver behind starters Anquan Boldin and Torrey Smith? That remains to be seen. Jones has enough issues with dropped balls and general inconsistency in Houston that the Texans let him go and drafted two new receivers as replacements. Although the Ravens – in search of more offensive explosion – were happy to scoop up a guy who absolutely blasts off the line into his routes, they did see him drop a few balls in the spring. Hmmm. It goes without saying that they didn’t bring in Jones just to return kicks, even though they’re excited to see him in that role. Their receivers other than Smith and Boldin totaled just eight receptions in 2011, and Joe Flacco obviously needs more than two downfield targets to make the passing game more dangerous. They want Jones to be that other target; the guys behind him on the depth chart have done little or nothing as receivers in the NFL. Last season in Houston, Jones caught 31 passes for 512 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 16.5 yards per reception. That’s not far from the prototype the Ravens want – a guy who can stretch fields and catch enough passes to make opposing defenses pay attention to him, possibly opening things up for the team’s other receivers.http://www.csnbaltimore.com/blog/ravens-talk/post/Spotlight-on-Jacoby-Jones?blockID=739334&feedID=6703 Quote
yagersports Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 It would be a pleasant surprise if this guy stepped up. Personally I'm really hoping that Doss becomes the guy. That guy just never seemed to drop anything. I wouldn't mind Cary Williams either. I really feel like we're really deep at WR, I can't believe it! Quote
