cravnravn Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 No Max, that leaves you O-U-T Total hypothetical, just say We cut Joe, June 1st.. Im not quite understanding "Dead" Money and how it effects the CAP.. http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/baltimore-ravens/joe-flacco/ According to that link, Joe counts 6.8 mil against the CAP, but the Dead column says 29,000,000. So if we cut Joe Does all 6 years in the dead column, count against the CAP? 1 Quote

That dead money is usually (and in this case) the signing bonus, which if he played out the contract would be spread out evenly over the 6 years but if you cut him then whatever amount of that that was 'spread out' that hasn't been 'paid' yet counts as dead money. RavenMad Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 The signing bonus is the only guarantee in the 1st year so that is $5.8 x 5 years (signing bonuses can only be split over the first 5 years of a contract in the new CBA) = $29m. The dead money increases in 2014 and 2015 due to the option bonuses which become guaranteed at that point but are split evenly over 5 years for the cap hit purposes keeping Joe's cap number relatively low even though his cash payment is quite high. 1 Quote
