Poor technique cost him. I think the first half, the first quarter when Green was shut down, got him and the other corners over confident. Smith will be fine, he is over paid, but still a very good corner, not much they can do about that going forward. They can't get rid of all the secondary, so keep Smith and get rid of everyone else.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over & over and expecting a different outcome. Since 1996, Ozzie, after being forced to get ride of two of the best wide receivers in the game in Michael Jackson & Derrick Alexander, has misssed on every single wide out, everyone! They have never developed one; never. So why would he keep trying this method? Joe is a franchise quarterback but he is no Aaron Rogers nor Tom Brady. Those two can make any receiver look good. The Ravens caught magic in a bottle one season when they won the Super Bowl with scrub receivers, none of the starters are on this team any longer and are barely producing in the NFL today. We can say what we want about Jimmy Smith, Chris McAllister, Duanne Starks and Webb. They were/are decent corners, starters yes, Webb a better fit as a slot man. But none of them, due to injury, or off the field issues, was a shut down corner. Outside of 4 since 1996, who has Ozzie, who has been the constant, drafted in the secondary that turned out to be dependable? Safties, great, a Hall of Famer in Ed Reed. but then who since 1996? Offensive lineman, a make shift crew since 1996, a Hall of Famer, great! A solid player in Ed Mulitavo, love him, a career very good player, then who? The jury is still out on this line, who had one really good year last year, but Ozzie's history says this line won't stick around because he doesn't pay offensive line playes unless your name is MIke Flynn.............. Running backs, Jamal, great, then who? Great, he did what most GM's have never done; Drafted not one or two, but 4 Hall of Famers, 3 for certain, Suggs, maybe not. The team has won 2 Super Bowls in 20 some odd years, fabulous- but any good football fan knows how much luck plays a role in winning the big game. The past five years, Ozzie has not drafted players who turned out. Is that his eye or is that the staff who cannot train them, teach them? He hires the staff as well, keep that in mind. Who is best to replace him? Great question, I am not into the game as deeply as I used to be, so I cannot offer any help there. I can, with my eyes, see that the talent level on this team has fallen off greatly in the past five years or so all because of poor drafts. So either the scouting has be be gone or some one between them & Ozzie. Shoot, most of us on this baord, on other boards, have called out players the team has drafted and said they would be busts and uess, what? We have been more right than wrong and we are just looking with our eyes! It is looking like last year was an abberition, that 8-8 or worse, maybe the norm, we shall see...

Ozzie has missed on most every secondary and line backer picks the past five drafts. Extending Will Hill and Jimmy Smith were panic moves too boot. It is time for Ozzie to retire, his history of missing on receivers and now secondary players is enough.... The Super Bowl win saved him but the evidence is quite clear; he has lost the touch or his staff has, maybe both.... Even Mosley can only rush the passer from time to time or scoup up a fumble, big whoop. He is no where to be found in pass coverage, still, and still runs around blocks missing out on tackles. Sure, he may run them down 8 yards down field, big whoop.....
-
They need to use Camp more, from the slot, drag routes after the tight end runs the seems. His quickness and good hands are much needed since neither Aiken nore Brown can get any seperation in time with the pocket being clean. Since they can't run the ball, 36 yards total this past game, the short passing game has to be the running game.....
-
At the time of the posting, Smith sr was on a deep route, hand fighting with the db when he lost the football, it went through his hands and hit in the face mask..... Just an in game rant thought....
-
He missed on more than Elam on the defense.

Last game first. If you watch the game tape properly, Flacco threw the ball to the only one with man coverage. Williams just had to keep his feet.... Brown, while he appeared open, was inbtween the zone coverage on that side. had Flacco thrown the ball all the way across the field, the safety to that side had plenty of time to pick it off. Smith Sr, was just coming open when Flacco was in motion of throwing. Smith also had one guy just off of him, another close by. Sure, he might have made a "great play" again, and gotten the first down, maybe not. Smith Sr should have gotten two feet down on the high throw, he didn't it happens. Denver, are you serious, because your statement makes it appear you clearly do not know how to follow a football game. The pass was to the tight end, over the linebacker, Gilmore actually got his hands on it, but could not gather it in, it bounced off his hands to Stuart who made a great leaping interception. Flacco has 14 fourth quarter comebacks, 21 game winning drives- http://www.pro-football-reference.com/play-index/comeback.cgi?player=FlacJo00 It takes two to tango but 11 to succeed in game winning drives. You cry about Smith sr having to make a great play for a game winning touchdown against the Raiders, then think he should make another one yesterday. Make up your mind..... The Ravens rushed for 36 freaking yards yesterday, want to pace blame, blame there.... The defense gave up career best in yards passing and receiving for Dalton and Green, and yet again gave up not one, but two fourth quarter leads.... Yeah, blame Joe....

It's 1996 all over again, I know you remeber that year. Most pts in the history of the team, best offensive in the league and a defense that was historicly bad. Pees has a say, how big or small is no relevant, in who this team brings in on defense. He has a say on who is let go, (*McPhee had two sacks and a bunch of tacles yesterday several for a loss), and of course he calls the schemes. Five defensive linemen active for the game, really? How many stunts did the front use yestrday? They did a great job on Green in the first half with match up zone to his side, then they went away from it for what ever reason. Offensively, the plays were obvious, why stop using the tight ends in the 2nd half save for a play here or there? They were working big time and opened things up by keeping the line backers busy. There were no rubs, no play designs to get receivers open. Some of that is on the recievers running the wrong routes (no route combinations have receivers with in 3 yards of each other ..... No running game, from a line that blew opened holes. I know, two tackles out, but the center and guards can't block either, all they can do is hold. 100+ freaking yards of penalties, a majority of them were on the offensive line. How many 1'st and 20+ plus were there? Even with all those penalties and no running game at all, this team still had a chance to win. But the defense once again can't hold and another offnensive penalty halt a possible drive... Yes, this is not only players, but coaching, and given who has final say in player choices, Ozzie needs to retire.....
-
Just get rid of him, let him take these junkers called defensive backs with him, oh and take Trestman with you Dean on your way out. This play calling is inconsistent, unimaginable, and terrible. Take these recievers with you, Smith sr is luckily retiring, i've never seen more passes go through some one's hands and hit them in the face as often as it does Smith sr....

ad next week they get MEEEE Chigan...... Harbs has them playing well, not great, but much better than MD right now.....
-
Oh no doubt. I said it to my friends up in CT, Husky fans who were not happy he left, who lucky they were he did and how miserable MD fans would be.... He is a terrible coach, surrounds him self with lesser talent at coaching to make him self look better. This is abismal where the Terps football program has gone. They don't teach the kids how to play their positions properly, even when they do get a decent recruit. Quite the shambles.

If you have time, check out Kendall Fuller today or this season for the Hokies. He is, in my opinion, the best defensive back in the draft if he comes out and the most talented of all the Fuller brothers. His brother Kyle was drafted by the Bears in this past draft. They are Maryland natives, his eldest brother, Vincent is a retired NFL safety who spent the majority of his career with the Tennessee Titans. His older brother, Corey, is a wide receiver for the Detroit Lions. At 6', 197 pounds he has very good quickness, speed, and instincts, just what this team needs in the secondary. He recognizes routes quickly, has very good hands. He does get a bit sloppy with his technique, relying a bit too much on his ability, which can cost him at the NFL level. But if he comes out and is there for the Ravens in the late first, early to mid second, he would be a good pick....

the rain is slowing down a bit, right now it appears it will hold off until later in the day (blocking out the lunar eclipse ).... we shall see.

I would love to have him, quality kid on & off the field. I doubt, however, even if he is there when ever the Ravens pick, they take....

The Bengals have the weapons that exploit the Ravens weakness on defense. Quick, fast, big receivers, athletic tight ends and a good offensive line. They have been building this offense for the past few years, thus, their 3 game winning streak against the Ravens, even with the "lucky bounce" a time or two. Like wise on defense, they have a good secondary and active line backers. They play the Ravens, mostly, in bump & run, whether they are in man or zone. This causes the Ravens receivers, who struggle, traditionally, with bump & run, to be late on their routes, which forces Flacco to hold the ball a second longer, and gives their pass rush time to get to him, either with sacks or forcing him to throw it away. Because their linebackers are so active and fast, the dump offs the Ravens like to use have not worked consistantly. Now, will all that change on Sunday! With a desperate Ravens team? At home, in the rain, likely, ? In my opinion, the Ravens need to use the tight ends more in this game, deep ins, seam routes, crossing routes, rubs, to keep those linebackers back, and honest. This will open up everything else, including the dump offs. Defensively, they have no choice but to duoble Aj Green, or at least play zone to his side. They have to give up a little pass rush to make sure they hit the tight ends right on the line scrimmage to slow them dow so that the linebackers can have a better chance of covering them....
-
Not really, they tried that in the first half, reason Crocket, Monster, Gilmore got open often. In the 2nd half, they doubled Gilmore which left the otehr receivers, along with Smith sr, one on one. This is what puzzled me through out the 2nd half. Since the line was basically having no trouble with the Raiders pass rush, why not use both tight ends down the seems, on deep crossing routes and use Smith and Camp under neath where they would then have the room to run after the catch. The Raiders were hitting Gilmore off the line, right away, then mathching him up in man with a line backer. This not only slowed the rush from that side, but left a hole if Gilmore had a decent route to run other than they quick out, or shallow cross.... Sometimes coaches out coach them selves, Tresman did just that, especially in the red zone..... It should be interesting to see what game plan he uses against the Bengals... So far, I am not impressed with his play calling...

True, history says only 1 team will rebound. The Ravens could easily be 2-0 right now, save for one play in each game. Not many teams so far this year can say that, save for the Giants who blew two 14 pt leads in the 4th quarter. The Ravens have played two games on the road, we all knew the first part of the season would be incredibly diifficult, but with two games against division rivals, this season could turn around quickly. I don't know if history repeats it self, looking at the teams that are 0-2 right now, the Giants are in a terrible divison, the SeaHawks should rebound, but then they have some team turmoil going on, so maybe it will be the Ravens.... who knows, it should be fun to watch and answer a lot of questions going into next year when the Ravens will have several free agents and a ton of cap room......
-
Nice, insult people just because they disagree with you. Smith sr could easily have toe tapped, he has done it before, receivers do it every week end, on that last touchdown pass, high as it was. Just like the week before, Smith sr dropped a game winning touchdown pass; maybe he should bring his lunch box to practice so he can practice a little more...... On the pass to Aiken that was under thrown, Flacco had to back up while throwing because he had a man in his face. Had he not backed up, his arm gets hit ball flounders and is likely picked off... Do you know how to watch a play? Or just follow the ball? The defense forced how many punts? 2, two, TWO punts the entire game. The Raiders were: 2 of 3 in the red zone coverting to touchdowns..... 9 of 14 (64%) on 3rd down. The Ravens had 10 penalties, 10, 2 on the last drive, one of them for 15 yards, the other, bogus, but still called. So it is Flacco's fault the jump ball to Smith sr was called early in the 4th quarter? Or that they tried it again, this time on the other side? That knowing the tight ends would have a great day, when one was already having a great day, when one of their safeties could not tackle because of injury, that the play calling, especially in the red zone, did not include any, none, nadda, zip, plays that involved matching up either of the 6'-5 tight ends? You are entitled to you opinion, one play does not win or lose a game, but one 3rd down stop inside of the final two minutes of the game certainly would have.....
-
He made a nice comback, , the turnovers didn't help, but you would expect them from a first year starter.
-
Just to add, Will Hill's 2nd pick should have stood. The back rookie judge, a kid all of about what, 25? Made the wrong call. Hill has the right to the spot he is standing. Just because the receiver runs into him does not mean it is pass interference. I am sure the Ravens will get a letter from the league stating the official made the wrong call.
-
Every qurterback, everyone, misses throws during a game. The issue was not Joe, he was making throws into tight windows all day. The issue with the offense yesterday was two fold. Not being able to run the ball consistantly and the play calling in the red zone. These stupid jump balls are ridiculous, especially when one of the players is five foot five and the other is 6 feet tall, the shorter one, a reciever. The went to this play too often, it ws obvious what play they were going to run. Show some imagination and may Smith doesn't have to toe touch to win the game, which he failed to do......again............ The loss though,, goes on the defense, dating back to last year's Pats game, no leads are safe, whether they come in the first quarter or the fourth. It is not missing Suggs as the the announcers tried to claim, they were just flat, two steps too slow, again. The entire team was that way, backs were not finishing runs forward, receivers were getting knocked off their feet easily; no push from either lines; all signs of no legs. The sleep on the west coast was a stupid idea.

Do your self a favor, watch this kid tonight against Bama. Prior to breaking his leg last year, he was on pace to make a big name for him self. Now he is back healthy, stronger & faster they say. Now he will go up against better coverage, at least a better defensive line to cause more pressure on the Ole Miss qb. This kid has all the tools, 6'-3" 220 lbs, quickness, "suddeness" as they like to say, speed and a huge catch radius with great hands. IF he comes out next year, he is likely a top 10 pick. I doubt the Ravens will have a chance at him, but if they did, they would be foolish to ignore him.

Ravens Insider: Ravens tight ends look for breakout against Raiders
tsylvester replied to ExtremeRavens's topic in News Feeds
Yep, both starting safeties out, the Ravens looking to get the passing game going, I could see fantasy numbers for the Monster and maybe even the rookie over the middle..... down the seams...... -
I go back to the just miss on the touchdown pass Manning threw to Sanders. If they connect on that one, game would have been long over, blow out style. That miss kept the Ravens in it, as much as Joe's pick, which I agree, changed the game.

Eh, we shall see. They are mostly just saying he has a high motor, big deal. 20-25 snaps per game max. He is better against the run, though not great, than Freeney is, so I can see them wanting him over Dwight (who is reportedly in great shape just waiting for this exact situation). So glad they at least did not take Phillips. One year vet min deal, nothing to lose....
