  1. Teams have been doing that for years against running quarterbacks. Sometimes it works, some time it does not. When you hold off the rush and have your linebackers/safeties tied up in keeping the running quarterback from breaking free, plays open up behind them. This is what Lamar was looking for, but hanging onto the ball too long, most times. This is also why, in the 4th, Hill, Gus, we're able to gain big yards from the flat. Lamar finally settled down and dumped it down; big gains. It was open all game but Lamar was locked in to deep passing for what ever reason. Against Houston, he did the same but found the open man quicker, mostly because Kc has a faster secondary. The way you best them is short passing, a lot of first downs, move down the field. This would have forced them into coverage, rather than spying, which would have opened his running lanes in the 4th.
  2. Yes, they did, 0 blitz, rush lanes, late corner blitzes. Just because the line held, or Lamar relaxed and threw to the hot read, was able to avoid it, buy time and find open receivers does not mean that they didn't try. KC only had success because Lamar tried to do too much. It wasn't so much the blitz that he has seen most, if not all season, maybe it was just the pressure of the game? Maybe he just wanted it too badly.
  3. Miami, SanFran, Houston, etc tried that, how did that go? MVP, number 1 seed.
  4. It wasn't just running the ball. Even with those passing plays, he had receivers open, short, some in the flat. But he ignored then to try and get the ball down field. Had he just done in the first 3 quarters, what he finally did in the 4th, they would have won.
  5. Some more info https://foxbaltimore.com/news/local/female-was-crying-911-audio-reveals-new-details-about-alleged-zay-flowers-incident-baltimore-ravens-police-baltimore-county-maryland-national-football-league-wide-receiver-domestic-violence-allegation-accusation-owings-mills
  6. Well, here we are again, another Super Bowl and another one where no running, predominantly, quarterback has won said game. Of note, Lamar won his 2nd MVP, seasonal, he is now the only 2 time MVP as qb to have not won a Super Bowl, Tom Brady, Brett Favre, Patrick Mahomes, Peyton Manning, Joe Montana, Aaron Rodgers, Johnny Unitas, Kurt Warner and Steve Young, have all won at least one Super Bowl. Now, he is young, he is transitioning to becoming more of a pocket passer, so he has time. Yes, I know, Steve Young was once a dual threat, run first qb per se, but once he got traded to San Fran, he put more work into being a pocket passer who could kill you with his legs. I haven't looked up the stats, nope, don't have the energy to do so, but I would say, rushing for less than 500 yards while passing for more than 2500, would qualify as a proverbial "non running qb" stat line. I see where he has really put the work in this past season, the growth was great. He just lost site of it in the KC game. I'm looking forward to see how he progresses next season.
  7. Well, a person is allowed by law to defend then selves, my brother had an abusive wife. He 6'-2", 250 pounds, she, 5'-3", 100 punts soaking wet. She would hit hom, throw things at him, he would try to leave and she would jump on his back. Yes, she even did these things in front of my wife & I, then call police and file a protective order against him once he was arrested. But self defense can be to walk away, not always easy I know. The fact that this supposedly happened the night before the game, ouch... I hope it is not true, but if it is, he won't be playing for a while...
  8. https://nypost.com/2024/02/08/sports/ravens-zay-flowers-being-investigated-in-alleged-domestic-assault/ Ravens rookie wide receiver Zay Flowers is being investigated in connection to an alleged domestic assault, with law enforcement agencies in Maryland and Massachusetts involved. The alleged assault occurred in the Owings Mills, Md. area on Jan. 21, the Baltimore Banner reported on Thursday, and the investigation includes Baltimore County Police and a police department in Acton, Mass. Both agencies acknowledged to the Banner that they were made aware of the alleged assault, but declined to provide further information
  9. This is a good listen/ watch. If you read to what he tries to say but doesn't, it speaks volumes. Man, they knew that this past season was special and they missed it by this much... https://youtu.be/Eux5tsG5dV0?si=YBphyM9AyMwxs1Oq
  10. Well, the line did well for the most part, some of the struggles were actually because of Lamar holding the ball too long, most, not all. Also, Voorhees will be, should be, ready to play next season, he should be a real big boost to the line, either at guard or right tackle. Sure, they need to get some depth back if they lose a lineman or two. But I think the peices are in place.
  11. Well, there are a few contracts they can either extend or cut ties with that can free up at least $20 mil in cap space, additonal cap space with little risk or dead money. With that said, I think Clowney should be brought back, Gus if the money isnt too outrageous for either. Alghalor i think has earned a new deal. The secondary in my opinion should be kept in tact, if Stone doesnt want too much. I would love to keep Madebeke, but not over pay for him. They have shown that they can find gems to augment the defensive line and make up for his loss. VanNoy is an interesting one, he clesrly played his best season in his career this past season, but he is aging quickly, I doubt thag he can duplicate it for another season, let alone 3. So I would let him walk
  12. Hmpp, Liufau is a reach, they already have "him" on the roster, a better version of him in Simpson, who has instincts and now, experience. Brooks tends to disappear at times, is not that great with catching the ball out of the backfield, though he can and can develop those hands. Not sold on him. Guyton is a huge reach and risk, yes, size, some athletism, but does he have the drive? The fact that they call him immature should scare you. I'm not sure Murphy will be there when the Ravens pick, if he is, a solid pick if Madebeke leaves.
  13. Well, they, the league, clearly had words for the officials at half time to keep the game close. Telling them to start calling the holding penalties on the Cheifs in the 2nd half. What, you think the most penalized lines in the league didn't hold in the first half, only the 2nd? Hmmmm
  14. Well, what we don't know and will likely never know, sorry to repeat my self; Did Lamar change plays from running plays to the pass? How many times? Without knowing the answer to those two questions it is difficult, if not impossible to place blame on either Todd nor Harbs. Yes, we can speculate that the Cheifs expected the Ravens to have a run heavey scheme & that the Ravens knew the Cheifs would expect such an attachment. Thus, the Ravens tried to "fool" the Cheifs by coming out throwing. This would be fine and dandy even though it didn't work in the first half. But the 2nd half should have been a correction to run the ball. Yes, it is plausible that the Ravens out started themselves, it happens. But knowing that they made it loud & clear pre season and during the season how much Lamar had control over the offense, I start to think it more likely that he audibled out of running plays to pass plays. Todd has shown all season, and in his time at Georgia, that he makes great half time adjustments. I dount he would see that Lamar is struggling with the pass game, trying too hard to make a big play, and then not adjust. When his qb would do that at Georgia in the first quarter, first half, Todd would call 10 straight running plays, even if it meant 3 & put until his qb got the message.
  15. Foot, meet mouth https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/dolphins-expected-to-hire-ravens-assistant-head-coach-anthony-weaver-as-defensive-coordinator-per-report/
  16. The biggest "news" whether slip of the tongue or a bad misleading statement is that they expect Weaver to turn down the offer from the Dolpins to be their DC and stay here. Everything else is/was pretty much a known or expected, ie, Queen and the big fella wanted, talking contracts, etc...
  17. Here ya go https://youtu.be/TZCgs_1Sn7c?si=Ub7U5tgrdA1WHaxO
  18. Harbs said the same thing he always says, we wanted to run the ball against the worst run defense but we just couldn't... Frankly, he gave all of his detractors plenty of amo... It will be up on the Ravens site shortly I'm sure
  19. Yeah, better players here, stay here
  20. Good, maybe they will groom Weaver to take over as head coach for Harbs in a year or two..
  21. Well, with Weaver still in the mix to be head coach for the Commandos, they likely didn't want to step in his way.
  22. This should be interesting
  23. Welp, take the Packers off of the list, they went to college to get their dc, Boston college to be exact
  24. Packers are reportedly looking to nab Orr from the Ravens and make him their defensive coordinator... Phins are looking to grab Weaver for their defensive coordinator position When you are good, they raid the fridge
  25. Best of luck to him, sucks to lose him https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/39429973/sources-seahawks-hire-ravens-dc-mike-macdonald-coach
