  1. Some updates https://www.baltimorebeatdown.com/2024/7/22/24203887/ravens-2024-training-camp-day-2-observations-bateman-shines-in-rain-defense-nabs-interceptions Midway through practice, the overcast turned into mighty rainfall in Owings Mills, Maryland. It didn’t stop practice, but rather gave them the opportunity to compete in the elements, where wide receiver Rashod Bateman elevated his game and reeled in a couple highlight grabs. Early in practice, quarterback Josh Johnson threw a deep route to Bateman, being covered by cornerback Marlon Humphrey. The ball sailed too far for Bateman to grab whilst having his jersey tugged a bit from Humphrey, leaving the training camp crowd’s excited cheers fall flat. But when the midway drizzling rain turned into a downpour, Bateman’s game elevated. During 11-on-11s, Bateman managed to snare a ball inches from the soaking wet grass with his fingertips, while being covered by cornerback Brandon Stephens, who went up for the ball too early, allowing Bateman to contort his body and catch the ball low and behind Stephens. Later on, he hauled in another pass. Then another. His sharpness in the elements was a boost for the offense. "You do some good things and more good things seem to come, hopefully. But Rashod’s been working to make plays,” Head Coach John Harbaugh said. “To see him come out here and make those catches— those are great catches, the traffic catches, one catch he plucked off the ground there, so I was excited. Everybody was fired up about it. But that’s what we expect from Rashod Bateman. He’s expected to be a top receiver in the league for us. That’s what we’re planning on. To see him true to form today was nice to see.” There were some interesting defensive packages on the field today which included both cornerback Arthur Maulet and safety Kyle Hamilton today, where one or both players were in out-of-the-ordinary spots. As noted in yesterday’s observations, Maulet’s been one of the most impactful players throughout the offseason program and it’s bled into the first two practices, as Maulet had his second straight day with an interception, though this one came after the whistle due to the defensive line getting to the quarterback. Harbaugh was asked if they’re trying to find ways to keep both on the field due to their performances. “Certainly. What you’ll see is personnel groups with different guys in different spots,” Harbaugh said. “The basic personnel group with Arthur at nickel is a group. And then you’ve got a group with Marlon [Humphrey] at nickel. You’ve got a group with Kyle down there at that spot. Kyle can be over at the dime. So, I think that’s the beauty of what we have an opportunity to do and a lot of guys to play to starter level and be on the field and mix it up a little bit and create problem for offenses.” Oweh’s attendance in the backfield on Day 2 of practice repeated Day 1’s, where he was often slashing in and around the tackles en route to pressuring quarterbacks. He’s looked sharp and he spoke today on how he’s feeling right now. “I feel pretty good,” Oweh said. “I thank God, it was a good offseason. recovered from my surgery pretty well. So yeah, I feel good.”
  2. Finally some word on what the injury was to Tampa Baltimore Ravens rookie cornerback T.J. Tampa will miss the next few weeks as he recovers from hernia surgery, Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic reports. This news comes less than a week after the Ravens placed him on the PUP list on Monday.
  3. In other news, Lamar was sent home, sick, yesterday. Man, that spicy food will get ya. Or maybe he had some 5 star gas station sushi
  4. I was going off of a bio on his struggles the past two years, both from recovery of the lis franc and position switch from free to strong. Now that he should be healthy and not being depenant on playing a ton of snaps, maybe, he should, be his old self again for a year...
  5. 2 years to recover from a foot injury, struggled at strong safety,a natural free, should be interesting. When healthy, a very good cover man, with solid instincts. 1 year deal, can't be much more than vet minimum, can it?

  7. Mitchell, Additionally, Baltimore placed rookie cornerback T.J. Tampa on the PUP list and declared rookie linebacker Adisa Isaac as having a non-football injury. Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Isaac has a minor hamstring issue.
  8. Man, Jacoby Jones died.. what a bummer, cool dude
  9. Maybe, maybe not. A lot of youth on both sides of the ball and at key positions, plus the cap, baring any major signings the rest of this year, will be in better shape. So if the youth pan out, it will be another playoff year for a few years
  10. Yep, nothing against Orr, but the half time adjustments by McDaniel were incredible, haven't seen that type of coaching since Rex. I am a little concerned there but the Ravens have good depth in the secondary to help. I think Simpson will be a great replacement for Queen. Overall, I am looking for growth on offense, a 2ns year in the system, healthy receivers, and see how or if the line can come togerher. With Henry the defenes will be crashing hard to try and keep him from getting started, that will pressure a young line.
  11. Another from NFL dot com https://www.nfl.com/news/baltimore-ravens-training-camp-2024-key-dates-notable-additions-biggest-storylines Players report: July 13 (rookies); July 20 (veterans) Location: Under Armour Performance Center | Owings Mills, Md. (fan information)
  12. Man if they can stay healthy, this will be fun to watch, from Espn
  13. They have so many options, let us not forget the rookie speedster who also has size. Todd finally has the personnel like he had a Georgia. 2 1,000 yard receivers is too much to exoect. But Bateman abke to focus on the ball rather than his injury should help him get solid production of what, 600-800 yards, maybe +5 in touchdowns Same for Flowers, the rookie, what, 500 & 3-5 tds Sky is the limit for a healthy Andrews who will be able to work with 3, very quick & fast wide outs for the 1st time. Likely, depends on how much playing time he gets. Yes, on paper, this offense can be very dangerous if healthy.
  14. Makes sense, we tend to forget that he was still recovering last year from his foot injury the previous year. Another depends on his steadfastness, more on Lamar looking his way..
  15. I think the way that the Ravens rotate runningbacks will enable Henry to stay fresh and get the Ravens 2 years, good years, out of him.
  16. The fumbles do bother me, a lot. The big runs were nice but not needed. Just the pressure of running, forcing defenders to keep an eye out for him running. If he just takes the 12 yard runs, combined with Henry's presence, that will open that pass over the backers in front of the safeties were Likely and Andrews do very well. When you combine that with an over route by the speedster, if a safety stays down or comes down, Lamar will only need to hit on 1 out of 4 passes to keep the defende honest. I agree, some, most qbs never develop passed what they are, but some do. Just look at Josh Allen, I know 1 out of 100, but he was wildly inaccurate, yet he worked hard to to become one of the top passers. Geno Smith, another who changed his future by working hard. It can happen.
  17. Yeah, we talked about this last season. Lamar was clearly trying to be a pocket passer. He just never really got to the equality, for lack of a better word, of pass vs run, get those 8-12 yards. This is what cost them in the championship game more than anything in my opinion. I am looking forward to see if he learned this lesson, if he grows this season.
  18. Yeah, in college, most kids are taught to read the field, how the defense aligns to the formation, which will leave an area of the field open, so they then throw to the area rather the man. This is one big reason why so many great college qbs fail in the NFL. I agree about Lamar but in his defense, he has only had time to make 1 or 2 reads before the line collapses. Last year was the first year where he made the conscious effort to buy time and look for open men. He does still tend to rely on certain players, first, if they, Andrews, Likely, and "panic" if they are not open. Monken knows how to use speed to the advantage of the offense so I expect Walker to get a lot of playing time, if anything, as a decoy to open things up. Teams will have to respect his blazing speed.
  19. I'm not sure I agree there papa. I think there were enough signs in the regular season, even in the playoff game against Houston when he did throw. Of him slowing down, making good reads. Getting the ball out so his receivers could make plays. I think a 2nd year in this system, especially with the speed of a receiver I think will make a big difference, that we see him come full circle. I don't know if he will ever be a great deep thrower, some guys just never get that touch of dropping dimes deep down field. But he can improve and I expect him too this season
  20. Nobody is right about players all of the time. Ngata in college would take tons of plays off, so I get what Stink was saying about him. Lamar does have some issues, timing throws, some based on lack of trust, some on his inability to read defenses quickly. Of course his problems throwing deep and along the sidelines, so there are issues that are on Lamar, not rhe receivers. What is on them is their lack of running proper routes, too quickly, too slowly, not good out of breaks. Not giving enough space along the sidelines or not running the deep over routes properly. Some of that is on the coaches, but most is on the receivers, game speed has confused them. So are just bad drafting, I mean how many left here and went on to be solid starters for other teams? No many, that were drafted. But comparing what Roger's has done or Maholmes with less drafted wideouts is a bit of a stretch, no far, but a bit.
  21. Frankly I think his remarks are over-blown. He doesn't really go off on Lamar so kuch as on the fans and some media members who claim the Ravens have/are holding Lamar back by not giving him legit weapons. I like Stink, funny guy, knows the game, knows how to speak the game. His remarks are correct, as are some of them spewed by those he is "dissing". Yes, the Ravens as we know all too well have had issues drafting top wide outs, even more so in developig them over the years. But they have also tried really hard, especially after drafting Lamar, to draft the right guys. It's an age old arguement, it is either the qb or the receivers... https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/have-the-ravens-not-given-lamar-jackson-enough-offensive-weapons-former-super-bowl-champion-calls-bulls/
  22. Likely like a light bulb or battery that burns brighter as it is about to go out... but I hope he can stay healthy and has one great year left in him https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/ronnie-stanley-ive-been-feeling-more-like-myself-than-in-recent-years Ravens left tackle Ronnie Stanley agreed to a couple of major contract changes this offseason. Stanley agreed to cut his base salary from $11 million to $3 million with incentives in place that could allow him to earn back some of that compensation. He also turned the 2025 season into a void year, which puts him on track for free agency a year earlier than expected. Stanley told Jeff Zrebiec of TheAthletic.com that he agreed to the revisions because he “just wouldn’t have personally felt good about leaving Baltimore” after a run of injury-plagued seasons that have limited both his availability and effectiveness. Stanley said he doesn’t “like not playing to my capability,” so it’s good news that he’s feeling a lot healthier as the 2024 season draws closer. “I would just say I’ve been feeling more like myself than I have in previous years,” Stanley said. “For the most part, just to be able to feel like myself physically has made me a lot happier. I guess being in that state when I was younger, it wasn’t as savory as a moment or savory as a time, just knowing that, “OK, your career could have been over after one play,” and not knowing if I was ever going to feel like that again physically or athletically. To truly feel like that and be out there and just notice myself getting better every day and feeling more like my old self every day, it definitely makes me happy.” Stanley turned 30 in March, but a return to good health and good form would set him up well for another big deal after the 2024 season along with providing a boost to an overhauled offensive line in Baltimore. That makes his status something to watch on multiple fronts in the coming months.
  23. Me too, but they will appeal, no one who needs the money will see a dime, everyone who doesn't will be richer
