No time to rest on your laurels, just win baby!
tsylvester replied to tsylvester's topic in Baltimore Ravens
Hamilton practiced most of the week, could be special teams moves. Flowers has a calf injury sp he could be a game time decision, we shall see. Play to win, if they do, the players have 3 weeks, if they sit out meaningless game against Pit, to rest -

Waddle is out, one less speedy guy to cover. They shut them down last year for a half, proving that they can do it. The difference this year? 2 of them 1) Agent 0 on defense 2)Todd has an answer for the 0 blitz Miami likes to use.. -
Wow, how the tables have been turned over. Broncos bench him for the last 2 games to "get a spark" for their offense and for "financial reasons". What would those reasons be? For starters, he us fully owed $39 million for next year, BUT, and it is a giant booty, his contract, the one spoken about above, ya know, the $242.6 million deal, will not go into affect unless he is on their roster at the start of free agency next March, which would kick in a $37 million guaranteed in 2025. So, while it had been an expensive couple of years, money and draft picks, it will save a ton by cutting or trading a healthy Wilson, the football player not the coconut, before the start of free agency. 63% completion, 42 tds, 19 picks 11-19 record, ouch Edit to add, they will have a whopping $85 million dead cap hit if they release him..

They need to avenge last year, they know that they can do it, it is just a matter of not letting up as they did in the 2nd half last year. -

The Ravens lead the series 10-8, the last four have been very interesting. We all remember the big lead the Ravens had, 28-7 at half time back in September of 22, only to collapse, in what would be a pattern for this team with 2nd half collapses last year, and lose 42-38. 2021 saw the Phish win 22-10 in Miami, in 2019 the Ravens put a whoop'n on them, 59-10, and then took out behind the woodshed and whooped them with the wood shed, 40-0 in 2017. This one should be intriguing -

Miami, 4-3 on the road, 1-3 against teams with winning records. Ravens, 5-2 at home, 6-1 against teams with winning records. Top offense against a top defense. Top 5 offense against a Top 5 defense. Something has to give. Time to take back home field advantage, make Baltimore a place teams dread to play. -
Man I sure hope he didn't tear that mcl last night. No word yet we shall see. I thought after his 2nd pick where he gave him self up, that McCafery should have been flagged for spearing, late hit, and possible targeting (helmet first right into Kyle's head) diving...

Yes, quite the impressive win on a Christmas Monday night game, complete domination. The only thing missing was the running game, but then the defense made sure to give the offense plenty of short fields... Onto Miami, or should I say home awaiting the Phish. They come in having won 2 in a row, leading the league in points scored, 463, with a points differential of +149, quite impressive. The Ravens counter with having won 5 in row, leading the league in points given up with a measley 244 scored against, a plus 173 points differential, now that is what I call impressive. It is good for 2nd in the league behind only those Niners still lickimg their wounds, by 4 points, but I digress. Tua is one of the most accurate passers, just as Purdy was. And like Purdy, he doesn't tend to hold the ball very long. Key to beating him, just like Purdy, pressure the pocket, take away his first read, he will become agitated and throw erratically. But at his disposal is one of the, if not the best wide receiver core in the league, perhaps all time to be honest. Speed to burn, quickness that won't quit. The only way to stop them is to not let them get started. Tua takes some of the deepest drops league wide. 3, 5, 7 step drops are most common, but he routinely takes 10-12 step drops to buy time, to avoid pressure. You see, injuries, head injuries have plagued him, so he doesn't like to get hit. But, when he does get banged around he speeds up his throw which makes the passes less accurate. Yes, 2 weeks in a row the Ravens face a top 2 offense, the Phins being #1. Their defense is not too shabby either, 5th against the run, 10th against the pass. But mountains were made to be climbed, and the Ravens have faced bigger mountains than the Phins. They know what is at stake, the #1 seed, they have been here before. A win, they lock it and the North up, one more carabiner with which to secure the rope line to the top of the mountain. Fun fact: since the merger in 1970, no defense has led the league in sacks, turnovers & points in the same season. The Ravens are on pace to do such a feat...

Wow, what a nice gift to wake up to! Firstly, as we saw all day, funny things happen when players are a bit distracted, Christmas games are the biggest test in the regular season. Now, all the talk will be about Lamar, and rightfully so, he was tremendous. But that defense, that defense, oh- my- gosh. The pass rush, the coverage, the good hands, they were like a pack of dogs, all night long. The vaunted Niner offense with all of their toys was no match, it was like chum in the water for hungry piranha. A win is a win not matter how close or impressive, a loss a loss no matter how close or badly beaten. But 12-3, this team is taking it seriously, far more so than a few years ago when they were 14-1. Wow...

Yeah, that last playoff spot is a royal mess, as are those two teams. What concerns me most about the Niners, the Ravens struggle defending the off tackle runs, especially to the weak side. They give up a lot of big runs there... They also struggle coveting over the middle, giving up big plays there as well. These are both places where the Niners excel. As for Flowers, it depends on what the foot injury is, just a cleat on his foot, a bad bruise, or a lis franc injury, far more concerning.

This game will be like seeing presents under the tree, wondering what could be in them. As long as we remember that it is the thought that counts, we will not be disappointed. Sure, there may be clothes when we wanted toys, but we needed the clothes. 11-3, 3 games this team lost when they were winning, I know that I keep harping on that, but there are not many teams in this league this year than can say they could bee undefeated, should be even. And they did it against winning teams, again, not many teams can say that this year. 12-3, 11-4, bah humbug, it's been a great season no matter what happens Monday night.

Sorry, couldn't resist, the little man that lives inside my head and has control of the juke box loves oldies.... Yes, the two best teams, record wise, maybe even true wise, meet up on Christmas night. Ravens take one last long road trip of this regular season, and another game filled with distractions, at night, on Monday night, on Christmas, on Christmas week end, /night. Several players are dealing with injuries, Stanley, Flowers, Hamilton, of course their speedy back is out for the season with a complete tear of his acl. But it is a great test for the defense, get quick pressure, stay connected in coverage, especially early in routes. A good test for this offense, give Lamar time, one of the most sacked in the league. Get the running game going early to take the legs out of their pass rush... Should be fun

Mistakes happen, players fold a bit under pressure. Lamar broke the rule about throwing late over the middle numerous times these past few games and this time, it cost him. He got away with that heroic pass to Likely, though his explanation made sense. It was a turning point in that game. Another miss by the special teams allowing that big return in the last minute & a half of the first half. Thankfully, the Jags were out of timeouts and Lawrence wanted to try to catch the defense napping. Still, 200 + yards rushing, while the score was not indicative of the game, a W was had. Purdy, as good as he has been, is a statue in the pocket. Sure, he can move around a bit, but if the defense can take away his first read, they can feast on him.

True Papa, look at them when Debo and their left tackle were out, three straight loses. But then, have they played anyone good? The Cowboys look incredible at home, against lesser teams. On the road & against better teams, they are junk. Same for the Bill's, if yesterday's game between the two was in Dallas, the score is reversed. Some of the bad play is because of injury at the qb position. But most of it is just terrible play and I think, just my opinion, it goes deeper than coaching. I think it is the recent changes to practices, no hitting, more walk through, & such.
-
Well, it was not pretty, but it is a W and playoff bound. How do you hold a team to under 10 pts? You keep their offense off the field, the defense held them to 3 of 13 on third down, outstanding. Yes, they got some help with this win, missed field goals, a botched end of half series. Only 1 sack, Madebeke kept his record going (and his pay day), Mitchel, man, the Ravens just can't keep runningbacks healthy. The Jags made sure to keep the passing down, playing man under most of the game, but that allowed Lamar to run free. But they also sacked him 3 times, this line is getting leaky, next week will be their biggest test from that SanFran pass rush. Sure, the pundits will call that game a possible Super Bowl pre-match. Not sure about that, just take care of business and see where we are when the dust settles.
-
Well, Chicago was Chicago, up by 7 gave up 10 pts with 3 mins left in the game. Then dropped the game winning hail Mary as time expired to give the Browns a win. As much as I would hate to see the Bill's in the playoffs, I just can't root for the Cowboys...

Yes, shame it isn't going to be cold enough for snow, been a while since we had a good Nor Easter dump snow on us.
-
Well, the San Fran game is not that big of a loss so long as they take care of the AFC games
-
Jags are down a few players in their secondary, another night game, the Ravens should have plenty of "practice" with playing in the spot light, off scheduled games. Let us hope they allow this to prepare them for January and February

Yes, wearing a brace, full participant both days
