Football Gameplan's 2015 NFL Mock Draft Video - January
thundercleetz replied to EmDiggy's topic in Baltimore Ravens
I have to co-sign what papa said. No way we take a RB in the first round. On top of that this team is built to win a Super Bowl now, and we cannot afford to take a risk on a recovering player like Gurley. We could find a serviceable back for us later in the draft. -
Will Hill is a RFA this offseason. This past playoffs we were Jimmy Smith away from being a Super Bowl contender. With that said we squeezed into the playoffs. For us to be a contender over the course of a season instead of hoping to get hot in the playoffs like we usually do, we need a big, playmaking receiver, CB depth, and a safety to play alongside Will Hill.

Right, from a legal standpoint in no way does it prove Adnan guilty. Even if everything matched up, it would still be a stretch given there is no physical evidence. For me, I do not see those changes as a big deal. Although, the prosecutor recommending Jay a lawyer is very suspicious. And Jay getting off with no jail time is weird. I read somewhere that outcome for someone in Jay's position is extremely rare. So I think you are onto something with the connection with the cops, however, I think that is more so because Jay was involved with the murder more than he let on, and the "changes" were to protect himself while telling the gist of the real story. I just don't think Jay is smart enough to frame Adnan. I believe Jay and Adnan were together that afternoon. And regardless of who did it, if Jay murdered Hae, wouldn't Adnan simply say Jay did it? The only way he wouldn't is if he was not with Jay that afternoon, which would be hard to believe. What about the conversation with the other wrestling manager who said she was absolutely positive she spoke with Hae on the day of the match? If this is so, the state's timeline becomes very difficult to believe. Interesting. That note is definitely one of the curve balls. Although I thought Don only worked at the Owings Mills and Hunt Valley malls? Furthermore, how about all the witnesses who said they overheard Hae was going to meet up with Adnan later? She had a plan for that note, if only we knew.

Finally the Ravens writing off a bad move

The other Cody was from Oklahoma. -
Maybe an unfair assumption, I can see it from that point of view. BUT if we are giving Adnan the benefit of the doubt for not remembering the details of the day, I think we have to give that to Jay with respect to his story "changing". I don't really think his story changed all that much, I think the gist is fairly consistent and he was unwavering and adamant about the main facts. Just my opinion and I understand people who see it otherwise. Once again, nothing here is enough to put Adnan in jail, but as far as a yes/no do I think he did it, that is how I see it. The Cathy visit was really weird for me. Very baffling. Kind of my gut feeling right now, I do not think Hae was killed in the time frame stated by the state. I think Adnan may have been at the library, but not track practice. I think Jay knows more than he is telling, and was involved more than he says. Regardless, I am sure there are only two suspects here, Jay and Adnan. I don't buy the loose serial killer story, doesn't explain how Jay knew where the car was? Maybe we can hook them both up to a lie detector test? Right now I subscribe to Sarah's bad luck theory, there would have to be a lot of bad luck in one day for Adnan to be innocent. I do believe the Nisha call was a butt dial, good investigation there. However, I still think Adnan did it.

Damn his arms are enormous! Very classy post by Brandon. Kid has an extremely bright future.

The things with Adnan that don't make sense are how does he not remember anything that day? I don't know about you but making four or five different stops on a school day was not typical (in Adnan's case, going out for lunch, library, track practice, friends house and the mosque). Not to mention he received a call from the cops? Very suspicious to me. My guess he could have been incredibly naive, but he didn't remember anything about a day where he made mutiple trips. Hae's BF remembered everything about that day because of the cop call. Just my thoughts. Other mysteries for me: how did Jay know where the car was? Who made the anonymous call to the cops?

Anyone think it's possible that Adnan blacked out and repressed the memory? Obviously a long shot but I thought that part of the podcast was interesting.

Finally the Ravens writing off a bad move
thundercleetz replied to papasmurfbell's topic in Baltimore Ravens
We really hit with Pitta and Art Jones that year but man what a terrible drafted when you consider we completely missed on our first three picks. I'm not going to question it because we won a Super Bowl a couple years later and going back in a time machine and changing one thing has unforeseen consequences. However, it hurts seeing Dez Bryant going one pick before us, and Gronk going one pick before Dickson. -

http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/orioles/blog/bal-the-latest-on-the-dan-duquette-saga-20150122-story.html Latest on Duquette. In short the Orioles might threaten filing tampering charges against the Jays as leverage in a trade. Buster Olney suggests Jays could deal their first round HS pitched from last year's draft (ninth overall). -
Not saying you're right or wrong, just saying the zone blocking scheme was/is part of Harbaugh's long-term vision for the offense and Castillo was one step toward that. Injuries definitely played a part, and so did Castillo and Caldwell's philosophies not gelling. Regardless, 2013 probably went worse than anyone could have imagined. Things ended up working out for the best as now we have a well coached, talented offensive line with lots of depth.
-
Exactly my point. After Cameron was fired Harbaugh wanted to switch the the zone blocking scheme whether we needed it at the time or not. Castillo was a poor fit in 2013 but this past year he was excellent once we got an OC who's philosphy gelled. Castillo should work well with Trestman.
-
This is actually starting to make sense with Harbaugh's overall vision. When Harbaugh was hired back in 2008 we all thought he was going to bring Pat Shumur with him and install the Eagles, WCO with the zone blocking system. Harbaugh, as a new coach himself, went with an experienced OC in Cameron instead of Shumur who was only a QB coach at the time. When Harbaugh hired Juan Castillo as offensive line coach it was clear his intention was to have this zone scheme. Kubiak ran a WCO, but a different type than the Eagles version. After a real rough 2013 where Juan Castillo got unfairly hammered, we started to see the successful transition this past season. Now we have Trestman, who's experienced in the WCO. Not quite Kubiak's version, but not quite Andy Reid's version. Moreso what we saw from the Raiders when he was coaching Rich Gannon. Sure, he's pass happy, but look at the receiving numbers for Charlie Garner from 2001-2003, and look at Matt Forte's receiving numbers the past couple of seasons. How about Brian Westbrook in the WCO? It's touches for the running back regardless. The Ravens were successful in the playoffs this season because they were aggressive and smart with the run. They didn't try and run into a brick wall, but we're strategic with the run resulting in a high YPC. I would expect Trestman to build upon this, and if that means more receptions for the RB then so be it. I wouldn't be surprised to see us draft a running back with receiving skills high in the draft. David Johnson from Northern Iowa and Trey Coleman from Indiana are names to watch. Now with the Mornhinweg hire Harbaugh has come full circle with his vision. He has the type of staff in place where he can run that Eagles, Andy Reid WCO.

And Now The Other Shoe Drops......
thundercleetz replied to rastaman831226's topic in Baltimore Ravens
I agree with Papa no way I overspend for Forsett. It's not hard to draft a guy who can step in. -
Important stat: Chicago was third this past season in TD redzone efficiency at 63.83%. Chicago was seventh in 2013 at 58.33%. We have always struggled with TDs in the redzone. Trestman had big receivers in Chicago, hopefully he'll push for a big playmaking receiver in Baltimore.

Interesting take: http://www.baltimorebeatdown.com/2015/1/20/7862111/ravens-hit-a-home-run-with-hiring-marc-trestman-as-offensive Also: @RavensInsider: Ravens have hired Marc Trestman as new offensive coordinator Trestman praised for cerebral approach to the game solid pick for sure @jeffzrebiecsun: John Harbaugh's brother, Jim, once said Marc Trestman "taught him everything" when both were Raiders assistants
-
That would be awkward, Cavanaugh was the OC at the University of Pittsburgh when Joe was there. Cavanaugh, working under then head coach Dave Wannstedt, chose to go with puny Tyler Palko as the starting QB and did not release Joe from his scholarship.
-
I like the hire a lot. Outside of Mike Shanahan, which was unrealistic, this was the best hire out there.
-
Nice grammar by the team's official account btw. Edit my copy and paste messed up the grammar haha

@Ravens: The Ravens have hired former Chicago Bears Head Coach Marc Trestman as the team's offensive coordinator. Discuss...
-
Kirby Wilson (former Steelers RB coach now the RB coach for the Vikings) was interviewed, I don't think he was a serious contender. It was down to Jim Hostler, Ravens old WR coach, and Kyle Shanahan. Then the Ravens brought in Dennison who told Harbaugh that Kubiak would be interested in the job.

Where did you hear that?

Nick looks like he is gone
thundercleetz replied to papasmurfbell's topic in Baltimore Orioles / MLB
I'm excited to see what both guys can do. Alvarez will certainly be given a chance to win the starting job. He has hit at every level and could present a defensive upgrade for us in terms of range and arm strength (both of which had been on the decline for Nick). I like Walker, he has a high baseball IQ, but he is very stiff on defense. He sort of reminds me of Brandon Snyder, a first round pick we had. Solid hitter in the minors, worked hard, but just had physical limitations on defense. -
I don't know much about Trestman, but I hear he is a highly respected offensive mind. His offense was very balanced, his RB had over 100 receptions, tight end had 90 receptions, and Trestman utilized his two big receivers. Hopefully Trestman would push for a big number one receiver here. I don't think he should be faulted for having a boneheaded QB. With Gase and Knapp, unproven candidates scare me. I like having a presence of a former head coach calling plays. Kubiak had that confidence, I think Trestman has that as well.
