It is now time to talk about the draft
thundercleetz replied to tsylvester's topic in Baltimore Ravens
We sign Cobb then we can't afford Torrey. I think our best bet is to re-sign Torrey and draft a big playmaking receiver early in the draft. We already have a stud #1 CB, depth can be found from rounds 2-8. The receivers are going to go quick. -
Nick looks like he is gone

http://forum.orioleshangout.com/forums/showthread.php/146059-TT-The-Orioles-should-let-Duquette-walk?p=3722165#post3722165 Good take on the Duquette situation that just won't go away. -
@RapSheet: #Broncos OC Adam Gase interviews with the Baltimore #Ravens tonight, source said.
-
Zorn and Cam didn't get along so Zorn got the ax. Mike Shanahan is definitely the number one choice, but I wouldn't mind Gase as OC and Knapp as QB coach.

Good post. I didn't know about all of that. If he was denied in the past for no reason I certainly feel for him. I know that part of it can be extremely frustrating. I agree with you, he should have kept applying. However, you're right, there needs to be more awareness by the league on the issue. Or at least some sort explanation on the league's reasoning. I will say this, the MLB is still light years ahead of the NFL on the front of medications.

We'll agree to disagree here. I certainly think Jay is holding something back, but I'm in the camp that Jay's story matched enough to make me believe it was a plausible explanation. Enough to put Adnan in jail? No. The interview is important because Koenig was definitely biased toward Adnan, understandably. And when she finally got ahold of Jay the press of the podcast had built up so much against Jay. He needed another outlet to tell his story. I'm not really worried about the quality of reporting, I'm taking into consideration Jay's words independently. I thought Urick's explaination of the cell phone technology was something not touched upon enough by Koenig. As mentioned, enough to put Adnan in jail? No. But Adnan's not offering any sort of rebuttal on what happened that day or being able to recall any sort of whereabouts. Whether Jay or Adnan did it, I think they were undoubtedly together that day around the time Hae was murdered. They are both not innocent IMO. Who knows what happened beyond that.

@RapSheet: #Broncos OC Adam Gase is expected to land in either Jacksonville or Baltimore, source said. #Ravens plan to interview him soon. Doesn't sound like a tough decision for Gase

My thoughts are Adnan is guilty but there was not enough evidence to put him in jail (although in the interview with the prosecutor below he provides an interesting argument, although that is his job lol). When everyone is done, I strongly recommend reading the three part interview with Jay: https://firstlook.org/theintercept/2014/12/29/exclusive-interview-jay-wilds-star-witness-adnan-syed-serial-case-pt-1/ And the two part interview with prosecutor Kevin Urick: https://firstlook.org/theintercept/2015/01/07/prosecutor-serial-case-goes-record/ I think Koenig gets emotionally attached to Adnan and his story and as a result is a little biased when presenting the evidence against Jay. Regardless I thought the podcast was superb but I think it's only fair to hear both sides of the story.

Yes, Zorn runs the WCO. He's a disciple of Mike Holmgren. Ideally Mike Shanahan would be the best candidate if he wants to get back into coaching. Pat Kirwan speculated being an OC could be what Shanahan wants at this point in his career. Gets to focus on the offense, and fills the coaching itch without he pressure of being a HC. Here's my dilemma: do you hire the best OC candidate frost runs out current system, or do you hire the best PC candidate outright even if it means changing the system again?

I agree. If Gase has one good year with us he'd get a head coaching job. Knapp seems like a safe option. What about Jim Zorn?

I'm a little more sympathetic to ADD/ADHD after learning about it from my wife who has it. From what I understand prescriptions are very heavily monitored and expire easily. You meet with a doctor on a regular basis who then decides whether or not whether there is need to re-prescribe the prescription. You get busy with work, or life, you forget to schedule doctor appointments. It happens to us all. You don't want to build a long-term dependency on the drug, so ideally you don't want to be on it all the time. Also from what I understand, one can feel completely OK for months without use, but then suddenly your brain feels like it's not working properly. I've been told it's a "cloudy" feeling where you simply cannot function and even the most simple tasks seem overwhelming. That cloudiness could last for weeks/months after that, or could go right away again. I was skeptical for the longest time thinking ADD/ADHD was something that was simply over diagnosed, but I have seen the effects it has had on one's ability to function. It can be crippling. In other words, CD could have felt fine, felt like he did not need the drug and did not meet with a doctor to renew. Or he simply could have been busy or forget (he is a busy baseball player who recently had a child). Then he could have been hit extremely hard sometime last season, which could explain why he took the drug even though he knew he'd be suspended. Once you've used the drug once and experienced its effects, it can be hard to not use it when you know what you're going through can be "cured". So if I had to guess I do not think this was technical oversight or bearucratic procedure. I think this was purely on CD not seeking renewal during the appropriate timeframe. He then had an unanticipated need of the drug. Just my opinion/guesstimate.

@jeffzrebiecsun: A couple of candidates who are out there: Marc Trestman, Adam Gase, Nathaniel Hackett, Greg Knapp. Knapp was the QB coach for Houston for two years under Kubiak.
-
@jeffzrebiecsun: QB coach Rick Dennison and TE coach Brian Pariani are headed with Kubiak to Denver, according to a source.
-
@AdamSchefter: Falcons are hiring Kyle Shanahan as their OC, per league source. Shanahan and Dan Quinn planned to be package deal. @RapSheet: Adam Gase would be an option there as OC RT @ravens5rox: @RapSheet so whats with the Ravens now

It is now time to talk about the draft
thundercleetz replied to tsylvester's topic in Baltimore Ravens
Pre-draft interviews will determine DGB's status. If he interviews poorly I could see him dropping, but then again all it takes is one team. -
Elway can suck it. As far as I'm concerned there is nothing Elway can do to take away his pain of the Mile High Miracle. No doubt that Broncos team would have won the Super Bowl if it wasn't for us. Elway has three years of a stacked team with Manning and nothing to show for it. Let them have Kubiak and spend another ten years searching for a QB. It stinks to lose Kubiak but we are stacked upfront and set at QB. Shanahan will be just fine.

I agree with everyone on Funchess as well. Seems like a big risk and I'm sure there is better value drafting a true tight end later in the draft. I am really starting to like the receivers in this draft. Jaelen Strong is another big, strong guy with a huge catch radius and attacks the ball. Right now Strong and DGB are my favorites in the first round. -
Assuming Kubiak takes Dennison who would you want? I've heard the younger Shanahan is a know it all but do you want to change the offensive system again?

Ravens will coach one of the Pro Bowl teams
thundercleetz replied to papasmurfbell's topic in Baltimore Ravens
Are we even going to have a coaching staff come the Pro Bowl? -
@jeffzrebiecsun: Teryl Austin and Doug Marrone both pull out of interviews for Denver HC job, per ESPN. Everybody, Ravens included, see where this is headed. See ya!
-
@AlbertBreer: And if Ravens lose Kubiak/Dennison, Kyle Shanahan would be on their radar, provided he's not in Chi by then. KS impressed Ravens last year. Hopefully a decision is made soon or we could lost out on Shanahan. it would suck to change our offensive system for the second time in two years :P
-
@JasonLaCanfora: Gary Kubiak will meet with Broncos for their head coaching opening. Interview expected this weekend. Suffice to say Elway very interested

Watched some highlight tapes, I know its not completely accurate but I was very impressed with Green-Beckham. Always attacked the ball at its highest point, strong hands. Looked the part of a #1 receiver. Mel Kiper projected us drafting Devin Funchess at 26. He was also a guy who attacked the ball at the highest point. He is a real big guy, so I don't know anything about his route running ability. Kiper has Funchess labeled as a WR but said he's not a flanker or a traditional tight end. Interesting. White's speed and ability to attack the deep ball was very impressive. I didn't see much in the way of catch radius or attacking the ball. By the way Mel Kiper projected EIGHT WRs in the first round. These guys are going to go fast!

Remember Kubiak didn't want to go after Manning when he was a FA. He opted to stay with Schaub. Manning can make any offense work, but Kubiak's offense is a poor fit.
