  1. recreate my memory, was it this one...? http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/recap?gameId=221208033 edit: of course it was (that 2002 home loss to Aaron Brooks and Deuce McAllister Saints), cuz we beat NO down there w/McNair in 2006, we had a couple pick-6's, dawan landry had one of them. Well, the Saints get to come back up to Baltimore this season, should prove interesting...
  2. I haven't heard much of any of these guys, but apparently this Dutch kid is news, and espn has the Terps' incoming class ranked at 21... http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/sports/college/recruiting/2010/05/coach_weighs_in_on_berend_weijs_commitment.html anyone know of this guy and the others that are referred to? seems like Gary is expanding out a little bit, geographically anyway
  3. side note during a brief break in the playoffs; the Caps have signed Niklas Backstrom to a 10-year, $67 million contract. HOLY SH*T! Ovechkin is in the 3rd year of his huge 13-year $124 million contract. Lookout Rangers and Leafs, you're not the only ones who can throw the buck around the puck. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/hockey/nhl/capitals/2010-05-17-backstrom-extension_N.htm?csp=34 seriously though, isn't this the kind of stuff that brought us to the lock-out?
  4. did the 0's (note the difference between 0 and O) intentionally move Jones down to put Wiggington up there? ridiculous.
  5. Izturis gets a bunt hit, that ball jump up and stopped dead on the grass. What is that like 6 infield base hits so far in this game? crazy... now we have runners at 2nd, 3rd with 1 out, no excuse not to tie it up here... let's see if wiggington's bat shows up when we need it to, now that Markakis has been walked to load the bases with 1 out... ...edit: nope, swinging strike 3; Tejada's turn...; called strike 1, just like with Wiggy, down & away, stared at; and... 1-1 count...fouled back, 1-2 now to Miggy...just thought of that, Wiggy and Miggy, pretty gay...; and a weak looper to 2nd, GAME OVER.
  6. ...the famous clip, which isn't really better than the pic as far as Dio is concerned, is just the Holy Diver song played under a fight scene. http://www.southparkstudios.com/clips/104019/?tag=Principal
  7. Another quality start is about to go to waste I think...
  8. Well goodbye to an early rock-metal icon, Ronnie James Dio (1942-2010), died of stomach cancer yesterday. Claimer of the devil's horn hand gesture (which I had forgotten was a Southern Italian way of giving or warding off the 'evil eye'), the diminutive frontman had a larger-than-life voice, took the driver's seat in Black Sabbath after the departure of Ozzy, and had a more-or-less successful solo career. I fully admit I didn't like him much, but he was influential and was usually surrounded by solid talent. Some of my knuckle-head students still play Holy Diver on the computer, and South Park's rendition of the same Dio song is hilarious.... I had no idea the guy was that old, and that he was more of a rockabilly dude back in the 50's and 60's before forming rock bands Elf and later Rainbow (with Ritchie Blackmore). He certainly had his day with some decent guitarists. Overall he was able to keep metal going through the early MTV years before all of the stupid hair-band-cock-rockers made it suck. I liked the first two Dio albums (Holy Diver, Last in Line) but everything after that kinda sucked IMO. Anyhoo, R.I.P. R.J.D.
  9. Damn, great bunt then nice steal by Patterson, and he gets to 3rd on Markakis' sac fly. What's up with Jones batting 7th? They've just been moving him all over the place...; is it just Wiggington batting hard?
  10. Well I found a way to listen to both today; the O's have been holdin' around 14.5 games back (where they are now) but in a few weeks they should (schedule dictating) be at 20 or so back, when the Habs/Hawks/Flyers/Sharks are given the Cup.
  11. AND... the Western finals are b/w the #1/#2 seeds. So real weirdness, we could see a #1 vs. #8 in the finals! but, that's for media hype. The Sharks are no scarier a #1 than the Habs are a meek #8. Maybe I should write Bettman's talking points...
  12. Did I hear right, the dudes on NHL network say the Habs/Flyers finals is the first conference finals b/w #7/#8 in NHL history? crazy if true; I know Gary Bettman is loving it, the way he touts the "parity" of the league lately. I'll give Bettman credit, he does go on air every week (thursdays at 6 pm on XM 204 NHL home ice) and let fans talk to him, none of those other commishes are that approachable.
  13. Indeed! When I was at work today I got the internet feed for the Blackhawks' broadcast, and they made many mentions of the lopsided penalty calls (5 for SJ and none for CHI) but anyway the 'Hawks won, this is gonna be an interesting series. I do fully expect the canadiens to rebound with a more physical effort (they seemed a bit lackluster tonight). They don't play (potentially) 7 games for nothin'.
  14. LMAO the Habs pic was part congratulating the better team and another part mourning; but I do realize I would be weird about it if someone suddenly (seemingly) changed allegiances. Anyway it may have confused at least one viewer of these posts. Anyway, I'm going to look for better pics, if I can find some Pens fans burying their faces in the seats of the Igloo on the nigth of that facility's last game (I'm still cool with the building closing down after even such an ass-beating.) I'm sure Jacques Martin will have some way of adjusting for game 2, I'm already looking forward to it. that San Jose/Chicago game was great (or at least so it sounded, I had it on radio), and those two teams will not need much adjusting on either side. I was glad Niemi had a great game, I didn't expect him to out-perform Nabokov, but apparently he did. That will be a great series, too.
  15. Man, you know it's rough when Hartnell gets into the act, sliding up the boards after avoiding contact, inching around to the crease, then dropping back and taking the easy feed... 5-0 Flyers...
  16. HEY, maybe Price can go on a tear the rest of the way, Montreal wins it's 25th cup, and then Carey and Halak share the Con Smythe trophy!
  17. I'll pull the sig pic Spen, I surely didn't mean to jinx the Habs, i'm not a hater. Philly's plan to create more distraction around the net and disperse the Montreal defense a bit seems to be working, though.
  18. So far the Flyers have made their bread in front of the Habs' net, which is something the Caps and Pens never really did, enough anyway to get Halak and the Habs' defense off their game. Two goals banged in from the crease, now Briere gets one to go in from the circle, and there wasn't the same kind of collapsing of the MTL D around Halak that time...
  19. good man. It's all about checking your feelings against your observations, and then having the proportional reactions. the sooner new teachers get to that, the better for their longer-term occupational health.
  20. Glad to hear you hit the mark on those topics; I would forward your comments to our history teachers here, see what they think, but I'm fairly ignorant of those areas. I just remember feeling very relieved about AP week being over, and watching seniors move to graduation... . I also remember various disappointments regarding scores, but that was then. I'm at work as I type, organizing HSA test materials for next week, listening to Blackhawks radio on the internet...
  21. I'm at work right now, trying to finish up some paperwork and get home in time for Habs/Flyers at 7. Listening to SJ/CHI on internet radio, good game so far, tied 1-1 midway through the 2nd period.
  22. Another doozie by the bullpen; at least we didn't have a lead to blow.
  23. Well, that was enough to remind me of the 2-16 start...
  24. HEYYY, Markakis extends his hit streak to 5 games!!! \:L
