  1. That last minute goal for New Zealand was huge. Imagine being the defending cup champions, and being #1 in their group now due only to alphabetizing. "We're # I! We're # I!" Well, "I" is Roman numeral for 1... . The standings in Group F may never look any better for NZ but I love it right now, for them.
  2. Wigginton still doing what he can; good for him, I hope. Even Jones looks like he's cashed it in, that was a lame swing on an easily predictable pitch down and away. pitiful. He should try not chewing so much during his ABs, control his breathing and get some Oxygen to his MFing head.
  3. Likewise, I'm not expecting the Ravens to be way better offensively, just hoping; they have to prove something to earn the kind of accolades they're receiving. too much hype, let's wait at least until game 4 of preseason to make any real predictions.
  4. WTF is with the broadcast booth acoustics? sounds like Thorne and palmer are talking into an HVAC tube
  5. There are people in the stands in SF wearing halloween costumes, too much orange and black on the field. Thorne and Palmer are laughing about it, sorry that that's the main entertainment of tonight's game... the O's are on pace to win like 43 games....for the whole year...
  6. Wow, Japan beats Cameroon? that is surely an 'upset', and Paraguay taking Italy to the brink of utter disaster is also a big moment for the underdogs (although Italy is a notoriously slow starting team and had their share of 'adversity' to overcome leading into the '06 cup). I like the way this first round is going in the early stages, some of the higher ranked teams getting tested.
  7. Yeah, not surprising, alot of guys play through serious injuries for the sake of the cup (Maxime Talbot did it last year with the Pens, a shoulder injury if I remember correctly). Tough mofos, those pucksters. And yeah, 3rd time's the charm for Hossa, he suffered some media and popular scrutiny for team-jumping, buy hey, many other beloved characters did just that to chase immortality (I think of Ray Borque, Joe Thornton); good for him.

    He's Clueless

the art of the after-the-talking-points-meeting-with-agents-psuedo-apology is pretty well played out. NFL $tar$ are retards. 'owning up' to one's mistakes MEANS ACCEPTING THE CONSEQUENCES, not hoping to get off with a cheap press blurb 'sorry, my bad'. I'm sick of these fuckers.
  9. Yes, but mostly cash from boosters (local fans) and regional tv networks; who the heck out in corn country gives a shit about the Terps? Trust me, noone.
  10. I'm not worried about Suggs at all. He'll show, and I think he'll have a good, maybe brilliant season. That choice is his.
  11. Chicago is an original 6 team, they should have that kind of popular support. And they have been long-standing at that. And how about Marian Hossa, finally getting the ring after being with Detroit last year and Pittsburgh the year before? But really the 'Hawks' story is all about Niemi, Keith, Toews and of course Bufyglien. And Sharpe. all pieces just waiting to be formed into the puzzle. And oh my god, the Q-Stache, probably the biggest enigma of all. Now even moreso...
  12. I loved the whole playoffs, and i think Chicago was "the" team. congrats to them and their fans. And really, the Philly faithful should be proud, the Flyers had a tremendous playoffs.
  13. Damn, those Krauts could've really pummeled the Aussies but for some missed chances, 4-0 was generous. Germany looks like there usually capable selves, Australia not so much like the version from '06. How 'bout Ghana with their 3-point effort? Their colors were rockin' in the stands; the African teams lookin' good so far. I didn't get much of a look at the S.Korea match but they apparently dominated. I will try to be up in a few hours for the next round, lotsa fun so far.
  14. Well, another Rondo show, and Pierce was good too. I like the Celtics' chances of hoisting the trophy in front of Jack... LA better show they can compete with more than just Kobe and "2nd star of the day".
  15. Hmmm, playing down for the draft? That's how the Penguins scored Lemieux...
  16. It was a historic performnace, which of course makes it "flukish", I never said it was a typical thing, of course it wasn't (?!) But in these playoffs usually "fluke" performances happen, because someone has to step up and do the extraordinary when the "stars" don't align.
  17. I can't believe either PAC-10 or SEC would even compromise their leagues by importing these teams that have nothing to offer except some ratings from markets that don't give a crap about either league? At least the expansion of ACC involved teams in the east; the whole thing is retarded IMO no fuck that it's retarded period.
  18. I remember watching the US/Germany game that year at the Hubcap Inn on Belair road at some ridiculous hour (I think it was 3 or 4 am), I had breakfast, watched the game and met with people (Nestor Aparicio had his crew on hand), then went to work!
  19. Lucky goal for US, nice to get a draw against the sure favorite in the group. I liked how the US team played with increased confidence and cohesion through the game; Altidore is nice to watch, Oneywu played well I thought, Howard played great (despite being cleated by Heskey.) I can't wait for Serbia v. Ghana, and Germany v. The Aussies tomorrow, should be entertaining.
  20. It only went 6 games, right? Hawks won in Philly to avoid game 7; still great series, and yeah a totally weird goal by Kane to win it, I was driving down I-895 listening to the overtime period on XM and even the Chicago broadcasters had no clue what was going on. I was happy to see Toews get the Con Smythe.
  21. These games are full of 'flukes'. ray was as ice cold tonight as he was hot before; both are flukes. The Oldness Derek Fisher made it happen late tonight for LAL when Kobe wasn't consistent and Gasol was weak. You never know, there's too many variables. edit: the officials did everything they could...
  22. I think Dempsey's too far gone to get back in the game; he's too comical to take seriously. He's a character, that's about all. I agree there needs to be a total shakeout. The only problem is that, someone will still be left from the old regime...
  23. I went to the ESPNZone downtown once... Just once... got lost and dizzy with all the eye-candy, same with Planet Hollywood. Anyway apparently Disney's closing the circuit down, maybe the ESPNzone in the Powerplant too. The link wouldn't copy but the story's in the business section of Sun's website
  24. Here's another opinion (not one I necessarily agree with, by the way, just one I found on Drew Forrester's blog)... Personally I don't see why Dempsey should be dissed like he has been, but also I don't know why he'd be any better than what we have, save that pride alone in the team's history (and possibly a catcher's knowledge) would give him an edge. The rest is here: http://wnst.net/wordpress/drewforrester/2010/06/08/it-takes-20-minutes-dempsey-saga-more-about-macphail-than-dempsey/
  25. Haynie was the only reason I, personally, listened to NST for years. However, he was a bit too "old school" for a number-crunching advertising guy like Aparicio. I have respect for both of them, but the one guy who'd propel the station into the newer age was the guy in charge. Haynie will land on his feet at a station that doesn't have to worry about staying as hungry as 1570 does. http://wnst.net/wordpress/nestoraparicio/2010/06/07/3677/ A bit of this typically-long-winded-Nestor-diatribe:
