  1. You could really hear the "ooohh.."s and "unnhhhh"s from the crowd, as if they really were watching a gory horror flick... I like Thorne just now, "the orioles need base runners..."
  2. Horrible; just horrible.... The Tribe bats around in the 9th, gets 8 runs...; not even done yet. Gruesome. The O's went from up 2-0 to down 8-2 in one inning. At least Wiggy and Matusz looked good in this, cuz noone else did.
  3. So Choo finds the hole, gets the RBI base-hit; Gary just said he is like .370 WRISP this year? bad timing, and now the tying run at 2nd... ...uh, now the go-ahead 3-run HR... *sigh*, and on an 0-2 pitch... ugh.
  4. I know the bullpen has been pitching well the last week or so, but these walks are bad....
  5. Talbot has pitched very well; not often nowadays for a pitcher to get a "complete game loss" (CGL, as Palmer was just putting it).
  6. So 3 pitchers for the first 3 batters in the 8th; 1-out runner at first, 2-0 lead to try and save. not good.
  7. damn, 2 solo shots for Wiggy; good lord.
  8. man, matusz has really pitched outta some shit; can't believe he'll go into the 8th, hope the O's can get a couple runs here... edit: and that'll be it for brian...; let's go LUUuuuuke
  9. agreed, and as well for the Western finals, SJ and CHI seem pretty evenly matched. I'm really looking forward to this. I don't understand why the Western finals game 1 is at 3pm and the Eastern finals game 1 at 7pm? Kinda strange; better than 7pm and 10pm though, to be sure.
  10. you can say that about Seattle & Cleveland, but we also went 5-5 overall during the Boston-NYY-Minnesota stretch. Oakland is .500, and the Nats are seemingly improved as well, so the O's will have to play well before the next 9-game AL east stretch.
  11. Thanks RM! I won't necessarily take advantage yet, but it gives all of us a way out (or in)
  12. I'm tired of reacting to any reactions; it's ridiculous to listen to or read about the continual posturing the management and media perform to make this team appear legitimate. The Orioles are a minor league team that pays major league salaries, for minor league performance. Really, they're sad. edit: yeah, the red pen was distracting, more interesting than his excusings...
  13. Okay, now the FRIGGIN' FLYERS, COMING OFF A 4-3 COMEBACK WIN OVER THE BRUINS are going to take on the "upstart" Habs... unreal... Both conference finals matchups start on sunday, thankfully, I can rest and contemplate... what might have been... .
  14. hmmm... nice offer, I would gladly accept; yet Bonnie is much more stubborn and reclusive. She relies on my perpetually bad memory to revisit entire seasons to build up to new ones... My life-long partnership (a.k.a. marriage) depends on my facilitating her ever-evolving neurosis regarding her viewing habits; trust me when I say, we'll catch up to you mid-way through the next season... edit: for some stupid reason, we don't have DVR boxes...
  15. cool; there was a bus-load of us (junket-type ride) that had a cookout under the overpass, and a bunch of us tried to sneak in many cans of beer. My dumb mistake was (besides being loaded) was trying to bring in some stupid-long plastic horn that I bought outside the stadium, so naturally I was accosted and searched by the stadium guards (I couldn't bring that big horn into the stadium and when I protested I was searched), and had to relinquish many beverages (imagine a grown man throwing up his hands, eyebrows raised, incredulous as a busted teeneager). But the best thing was, my predicament provided enough interference for about 6 of my buddies to glide in (beers stored), and we still managed to party down. anyway, by the end of the game I had to go to the bathroom badly, got caught up in the human out-flow, and missed the bus back to parkville. My wife was PEEEE-ISSED, lemme tell ya.
  16. Howdy usfrj2japwijj@$#%^Rs9d (sorry, fingers slipped); I seem to recall a game way back a few years at Ravens' stadium where Aaron Brooks torched us a bit; I more recall having many beers taken out of my jacket on the way into the stadium, and then after the game missing the bus back home, wandering up to Pickles calling my wife on the old Nokia... long night.................. Anyhoo, congrats to the Saints, great story, team, and championship. I still feel badly for Manning and his ill-timed pick-6. No way for a champion to go down, but hey, tha's how it goes.
  17. It's cool, I will certainly forget any meaningful details within minutes of logging off. The trick for me is not coming to this thread. Obviously I'm intrigued. My wife and I will satisfy our cravings with other shows until we buy the next dvd set. I actually like reading about reactions to shows I haven't seen; I don't divulge any details to the missus. I just wait with a smirk.
  18. Definitely weird, probably why I reacted the way I did to hearing of Patterson (let's just GET ON WITH A DIFFERENT TEAM ALREADY and bury everything that had anything to do with that ugly recent past, maybe even Roberts...; 'EXCEPT CROWLEY OF COURSE') next thing ya know we'll have Raffy as 1st base coach
  19. Thanks *ahem*, they're really Spen's Habs. But I will root for them from this point on, not just because they beat "my Pens", but they really are a team to like; despite the "smurfs" and all other pejoratives used for them in recent years, they do carry that aura of 'team of destiny'. I remember going to Alonso's on Cold Spring early in the 2000 Ravens' season when Tom Matte, Bruce Cunningham and Bruce Laird had their saturday radio show, and Matte at numerous points called those Ravens a team of destiny. Hardly as likeable a bunch as these Canadiens, but somehow blessed...
  20. I guess so; but I would think a hitting slump is better dealt with at the level of competition, while pitchers need time to refine techniques against lesser competition. Maybe I'm wrong on that; or maybe Reimold was never major league material anyway and they were holding a place for Patterson, or whomever?
  21. So Cammalleri, Halak and Pavelski (SJ) are the favs so far for the Conn Smythe, IMO...
  22. Yeah, good series Spen, moreso for Montreal than Pittsburgh, the latter team had no clue this last game and really in the whole series; this Habs team has that "team of destiny" thing about them, and I'm only quoting what I've heard from other sources, like XM 204 and such. They seem to handle themselves well and their opposition (no matter how offensively potent) even better. Meanwhile Philly is really taking it to Boston, and wow, it could be the final two teams to make the playoffs in the east to go to the conference finals. Halak has been awesome, I see no reason why the Habs can't get to the Finals now. edit: and the Flyers force game 7....!!
  23. Last post i'll make sporting the Pens' logo; no excuses. They played like shit tonight, it was frustrating and embarrassing. Anyway the Habs will close the evil circle of being the first and last team to win at the Igloo; I wish them luck. They are certainly equal to or better than Boston or Philly, and may even relish facing either of those teams, who certainly have a more colorful history with the Habs than Washington or Pittsburgh.
  24. That's not contrarian; that's stupidity. russell was a bad pick by a bad team and neither has shown shit for years. Gaither was a good (5th round) pick by a team with a good reputation for pulling and proving later-round talent, and Gaither has not been a world-beater but has certainly justified the pick and can still be a great lineman. there is no logical comparison between these two individuals, their teams or scenarios. there is only stupidity in attempting to compare.
