  1. Since when (recently) has this not been done? this franchise is grasping to hold and promote any ray of hope...; the marketing is as bad as anything else.
  2. Well, the Lakers have previously met the Celtics 11 times in the NBA finals (the first time as the Minneapolis Lakers, in 1959). In those championships the Celtics have won 9 titles (the Lakers' wins were in '85, '87). The Lakers are now in their 30th NBA title series, they have won 14 of them (4 as the Minneapolis Lakers). The Celtics are in their 21st finals, having won 17 of those. no doubt the utterly dominant franchises of sports, there's no sport with the two dominant teams having faced each other so often in the championship round. Only steelers-Cowboys comes close, for sports that have a league big enough not to be so inbred like the early days of the NHL's original 6...
  3. I used to shake my head side to side with a game like tonight's; now I just nod a couple of times, lips pursed... another quality start, wasted; more blown AB with RISP; costly and untimely errors; whatever... Wow, Rivera still "gots it", we have been priveleged to watch a HOF in the making, still pitching well in the twilight of his career. I wish one day the O's will have a player that can reach the twilight of a decent (not nec. HOF) career with them, it's been... awhile.
  4. Yeah, it was Dio. I've heard Killswitch's cover, and I admit it's great and really close to the original, the singer nails the vox, but it's not too hard to tell the two versions apart if you'd grown up listening to the original. BTW on a general note, alot of current bands have done great jobs covering some classic metal lately. It's nice to hear, just makes me feel so old...
  5. Wasn't sunday; but could be after tonight... I agree, although I was having a good-enough time watching Sox and Rays... Agreed, our hitting has been way worse than our BP; and hey, who's responsible for the horrid base-running? they can hit the road too... And how about another blown well-pitched close game, multiple missed opportunities with RISP... and is that gonna be an error on Wigginton? to give up the go-ahead run? didn't look like an easy play, but he could have paid more attention to the dude coming home than the guy racing toward 1st...
  6. Yup. What we need is less a disciplinarian and more of a coaching-type of manager. And get rid of these stinkin' overpaid vets. I shook my head when the O's signed Tejada and Millwood; and honestly I ain't even hot on Roberts' return, except that he's probably better than what we have now, but not for the money he's getting. I mean really, they're no good to the team in the long run, and the short run is likely to bring real progress unless the team can focus the newer talent. We need a manager who has technical expertise and a patient but firm approach to guiding youth.
  7. Yet another solid starting effort is wasted; WTF... According to the post-game show, Bergeson is only charged with 4 ER, so he doesn't get the loss...who does? this stuff confuses me. Hendrickson? this bullpen is truly distressing...
  8. aren't all of those three teams Hab-haters? I guess Montreal has had so much success in their history that most teams in the league would have run afoul of them at least once, but Toronto, Philly and Boston seem to have more than the average level of animosity with Montreal, even in the eastern conference? I'm wondering (off-hand) how long burke can maintain in Toronto having sub-par seasons...
  9. lol (if you're serious) he was a freshman guard last year with Kentucky, probably the highest-ranked recruit coming out of high school last year, could easily (and likely will) jump to the NBA after one season in college (I forget if he already declared for the draft, I think he did). He would be a solid pick for any team in the draft, but there are others that the Wizards may opt for, their options are wide open after their recent purging. Us Baltimore-area folk should pay attention to Lake Clifton's Josh Selby, I think the #2 ranked guard in the country, who has signed with Kansas to play point guard, he's pretty special (at least judging by the attention he gets from the media and the clips I've seen).
  10. OMMFG Atkins has another solo home run for the O's; they're last in the league in hitting with RISP, they probably have disproportionately more solo jacks than most teams, meaning they're probably way low in OBP. I haven't checked alot of stats, but that would make sense to me...
  11. I'm pullin' for the Blackhawks, I do think they have the strength and experience to prevail. The Flyers do as well, but I gotta root for someteam closer to my home... . It's that close...
  12. pregnancies are the best stirs in any class (or school), I encourage them this time of year for staff (or graduating seniors, we have some of each at my school) edit: this might seem inflammatory to some..
  13. I hate trying to pretend to convince students that there's something important to do leading up to finals.... SO, I don't; but then, neither do they. I hate late May.
  14. Well, nice run by your Habs, Spen; sorry it had to end. I'd much rather have seen an original-6 matchup, and not another chance to see ugly Bobby clark highlights from the broad street bullies era Flyers archival. I do think however that Philly brings a more fitting opponent for Chicago, they blackhawks have not really been challenged in this playoffs yet, I think they will be in the Finals.
  15. BULLSHIT...NO SB XXXV WITHOUT RAY-RAY & LBs, we had such a mediocre secondary and so little consistent offense except for Jamal. Shannon Sharpe had some stellar moments, but really it was the front 7 of the D. The Dline was of course big-time, but really the LBs and their iconic leader Ray Lewis made this team what it was that year. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRlIEMhv-ZE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Vtf3-EyHoA&feature=PlayList&p=0DDE04F0341B9C31&playnext_from=PL&playnext=1&index=21 oh, and about Jamal, I think he will get into the ROH; I'm not sure he should be because I've never thought about the requirements for the induction (I always wondered about Byner being in, but never really thought about it...)
  16. Well, Steve Nash battles through black eyes, broken noses but still paces the Suns vs. the Lakers. Then standout defenseman Duncan Keith takes a mouthful of puck and loses 7 teeth, comes back in to the game to assist on a goal... who gets the nod for toughness? Well, if it's Barry Melrose's call, you know who gets his vote...; but you can decide for yourselves. Nash's nose: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playoffs/2010/news/story?id=5215555 Duncan's dentals: http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/nhl/news/story?id=5216190 Maybe not as dramatic as Ronnie Lott having half a finger amputated during a game instead of lose playing time by an extended hospital visit, but still grit in the face of battle.
  17. yeah, throw 'em back and loudly divulge sordid details of your students' lives to coworkers in front of random strangers!
  18. That was a big 5-3 PK by the Habs, keeps it 3-1 into the 3rd period. There's still life for Montreal, and Philly's momentum faded in the last 5 minutes of the 2nd period, so Montreal can breath, regroup, focus...
  19. I was running around alot yesterday, only got to listen to bits of the game on XM204, it seems Halak is now "human", and the Flyers are looking to end this series at 5 games tomorrow night. Leighton has posted 3 shutouts this series, unreal. The 'Hawks are looking great, Niemi had a 95% save mark this series, and generally looks quite comfortable. Norris trophy winner Duncan Keith took a puck to the mug, lost a few teeth. I really think Philly/Chicago would be a great finals, both teams have alot of talent, hot goalies, toughness. The Hawks seem to skate better and have more coherent offense, but the Flyers are more aggressive and physical.
  20. This band's been puttin' out singles and doing shows for a while now, but won't release their debut for another few weeks. I've preordered the cd/lp, but you can get their stuff digital download; they're hot. this is a live version of Sleigh Bells' "Ring Ring", which is going to be titled "Rill Rill" on their album "Treats", to be released first week in June. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrjueHZpmWQ
  21. It's looking like Chicago and Philly, Clubber Lang v. Rocky.
  22. exactly; i have witnessed people watching and promoting some ridiculously violent and degrading sh*t on the internet, facilitated mainly by youtube. It's not cool.
  23. My wife and I are kinda like that when we watch series on dvds, we tend to watch 2 or 3 per night to catch up quickly or just to enjoy them over again. I'm worse on my own, on the rare nights I have to myself (say if the wife and kid are out of town) I will definitely watch 5 or 6 episodes of whatever I like, in a row or just whatever I choose. I do this a lot with the first 3 seasons of X-Files (Spen, i agree about thinking the last several seasons screwed that show, but it never keeps me fron watching my favorites from seasons 1-5, and I also believe the movies, as silly as they were, were not meant for real fans of the series, just the casual ones who never took regular interest). If I'm on my own, it's a 6-pack, bag of pistachios, box sets for several seasons of whatever, and a dark viewing room.
  24. "Cla"? what the heck is that? couldn't the O's afford the "y"? A submariner at that; nice getting out of the inning, though, and we again have a chance to win or blow a close won, but the starter again has no chance after pitching well... edit: my jinx must be working, "cla" got the L; how about Izturis (of all people) getting the 3 RBI and the Rangers winning on a sac fly? ughh...
  25. ?!?! lol, that's saying something; I only ever watched the first season plus a couple episodes into season 2, I found the weird camera usage and hectic pace a bit much; but it was intense, but I could see how it'd get played out pretty quickly.
