You mean you started mid-year of SY08-09, or this year? Anyway, best of luck! With the Baltimore Archdiocese in such financial straits, hope your situation is viable and enjoyable. I taught AP Calc at Patterson High school for 5 of my 7 years there (let me tell ya, I've never stretched it as far as with those classes, not exactly Stand and Deliver, if you get my drift), but the school I've been at the last 3 years (small BCPS charter high school called Independence, located in Hampden) is too tiny to have, at this point, a viable AP course, and also we don't exactly serve students who fall into the college-prep track as typically viewed. anyhoo, I think I'll start a teacher thread in gen chat for commiseration and catharsis. Maybe our non-O's posts here can be moved...

Yes, in fact they did two things in doing so. Got RISP home (at least a few of them), and got a save-situation wrapped up for a win. And a win for a starter, no less. They of course had to make it interesting, but I'll give them credit. WIN #3 !!!!! Woo-HOOO! Over the Sox too!

Nice; I was also a bit anxious Thursday, but reassured myself by realizing they recouped some pics and could bring depth, and that they knew this was a deep draft, and so would have performed due diligence in scouting players and communicating with other teams and college personnel. It didn't take me long (as soon as I saw Kindle's name next to Ravens') to feel really good about this draft. It is definitely good that they drafted players that could but don't necessarily have to step in, save maybe Kindle. Cody can and should be brought in sparingly while they work on training him up in conditioning and technique, and the TEs will have Heap to learn from (both were decent pass-catchers but need run-blocking work), so we build real depth in terms of age at position and not just positions. I like Ozzie's quote, and we did make it two the 2nd round (really, through most of the season) w/o overall quality 2ndary, so building up the front 7 is dreamy, especially at the rather minimal cost it will take in terms of contracts. edit: also, let's get real, people (fans, media) were starting to doubt and dog Oz recently, doubt his skills and performance and the value of his role recently; he definitely showed it this year, making '04 and other less-spectacular drafts seem like anomalies and not strategic errors. And yeah, let's watch that 2nd round-funk stuff go bye-bye, between Rice and now Kindle and Cody, seems like that 2nd round is becoming more fruitful.

I'm in my 10th year in Baltimore City Public schools (High School), proud of it.

WTF with making the Draft prime time during the week, anyway? I was totally shocked and flabbergasted in general, having to adjust my NHL-Playoff-watching-self to catch the draft. Why do we want the draft to be prime time? money sucks...

LOL I'm cool with your language, I'm actually happier you're more vocal. Profanity doesn't bother me (I'm a city schools' teacher) and I know you're patient. Just chill. I love your posts. this baseball team brings out the crazees in all of us.

*whew*, Staal does awesome work to set up Dupuis, and Pens will advance, but the Ottawa Senators get ultimate credit for really making this a true series. Holy shit. And the handshakes begin... Pens really did ramp it up when they had to, and Bylsma made the right line shifts especially with the fourth line edit: I swear, I'm gonna buy a jordan staal jersey.... I have no real idea how the Pens came back to win this one, but it is pivotal, they go home to rest a bit and await their 2nd round opponent.

LMMFAO, OMG come on, patience is a skill, not a virtue. anyway, I totally missed the 6-runs scored by boston (I was watching Pit-Ott hockey), but really, that's the way of the O's, make it a bit close, have a pitcher do well then screw his win. What did you expect? Treat it clinically, not emotionally. It's hard to read your posts with that frustration, you're better than that. edit: you've been cussin' alot

Cooke is keeping PIT alive, along with Malkin and Guerin...; now it's a game I just wish it wouldn't take 2.5 periods for PIT to wake the F*** UP!!! But yea, the pace has certainly picked up. Gonna be a great last 5 minutes. edit: ... or not; OT again... ugh.

I imagine... TOTAL POCKET COLLAPSE AND WRAP-SACKS

"they all smirk"? I only saw one face at a time... Anyway we have to trust that they know what they're doing going into the draft, and have scoped out various probable scenarios and developed contingencies, which obviously they have. John Clayton voted our day-2 as a winner, we drafted depth in need areas while corraling identified talent so there is everything to look forward to this coming training camp, esp. the fight for no. 2 TE, how Kindle battles for position, how cody "shapes up"...
-
Okay, I turn to the O's game for a minute and miss 2 goals; I have seen only one of them tonight real-time. Hopefully Cooke's goal will energize Pittsburgh, get them moving. That on-ice twinkie (Chlarissa?) has a weird nose... Byslma doesn't even have one; they need to borrow some of Crosby's cartilege. edit: the Pens are so sloppy tonight, their passing sucks, are not playing physical or with any real energy or focus, and will deserve to have to play game 7 at home with the possibility of that being the last game ever at the igloo, unless they get their shit together quickly. It's not like Ottawa is being overpowering, there's not much checking going on, just a lot of up-and-down stuff edit: another goal (it might be overturned b/c net was off its moorings) against Crosby's line; well, if he's gonna have an off night, let it be now and not Tuesday...
-
Yeah, he's already got the umps watching him. Does he have a problem with bats or something? Let's see what Wieters can do w/2 runners on and 3-1 count. And... he pops out; O's are now 2-8 WRISP tonight. edit: Matusz looks good (again), meaning there still might be a reason to watch for another week...
-
Quick goal by sens, 2-0 early in period 2; then Crosby goes down in Elliot's crease, and he's off to the locker room, gosh.... Pens aren't moving the puck and in general moving quickly enough. Maybe the 3OT game Thursday night and the fact that the Pens have played so many games the last 4 seasons is accumulating to general weariness, but maybe they're just not on point tonight. edit: Crosby back on ice at 14:00, looking okay. Pens are starting to ratchet it up a bit; going back and forth a lot by 10:00.
-
1-10 WRISP last night, it's basically the same thing more often than night, making the score tight so stupid errors (like by Tejada who's playing out of position) or bad relief pitching or bad base-running or mistakes-du-jour make each close game a loss.
-
The Pens look really slow and are getting outplayed by a well-motivated Senators team, Crosby is being bottled up, the Pens' passing is not real crisp, they are not putting bodies on anyone, and Ottawa is getting plenty of shots on MAF, who has clearly been Pittsburgh's best player so far this game, unfortunately. I hope they wake up next period, because the senators are only going to come harder... i can't wait for game 6 at the Bell center, that place is gonna be crazy, and I remember a statement uttered several times by various media personalities about the Caps before the playoffs started, that they "tend to play down to their competition", I'm not sure if that is accurate in this case, but the Habs have certainly done their fair share of competing.
-
WOW, Halak was awesome tonight, and the Habs played well and now take the series back to MTL with a chance to tie, as do the Senators v. Pit. Funny how these two series are mirroring each other. Both road teams (canadian) won the first game on the road, then the other (american) teams won the next three games, and then the other (canadien) teams won (again, on the road) to get within a game, and bring the series back on their (canadian) home soil. crazy. Still thinking Pens and Caps will advance, but then again the odds might be with one of those two failing... If that's the case, even money on Pens, I guess. They're goal-tending is shakier.
-
Cody... break out the D-cups...
-
*ahem*, both Philly and Boston had the season series advantage over their opponents...; bearing fruit. anyhoo, as a Pens fan, I'd much rather have them face Philly or Boston than NJ or Buf. edit: 3OT in store for PIT/OTT, sheesh... edit: ...well, Sens get the 3OT goal, live to play another game, we'll see. I find it hard to believe Pittsburgh would lose two more after this, but ya never know... . anyway at least I can go to bed!
-
Man, Vikes trading pick to detroit? I mean, the Lions might be inept but really, servicing a division rival? unbelievable...
-
Yeah, we have have our share of bad 2nd rounders, and maybe this 2nd round is bleak (IDK I haven't really studied it) so it's better to have the extra picks I guess. Oz & Co. have great history with the later rounds.
-
I agree, just don't see how the Ravens couldn't get at least another 2nd rounder out of it.
-
Yikes, I'd have thought at least the 2nd rounder plus the others... shit.
-
Yeah, after losing out to the Cowboys, they smartly bow out, and hopefully have more picks for later. I just hate having to wait another day to find out, but then Ozzie and co. have more time to think. good choice under the circumstances.

I assume we're building depth now...
