In today's Sun there is an article that says we're only $5 million under the cap.
-
I hope he's right...

Can anybody point me to where it says what our cap room is? I thought we freed up 18.6mil with the cuts but we need 4 for the rookie pool and we just gave 6.5 to Yanda. So that sounds like 8.1 mil left.
-
Here's another thing....why are we linked to none of the FAs on the market????
I suspect we don't have the cap money available.
-
While I'd love to have Naamdi or Joseph I just have a feeling we don't have the cap room available. We must sign Ngata to a long-term cap friendly deal. Right now he's eating up a ton of cap money with the Franchise tag. And this should be done ASAP. We still need an OT and a FB at least.
-
Well, good for him. Without having Mason and Heap it might be more challenging at first, but he's a year older and its time to take the final step.
-
If, and its a big 'IF', Sergio can still show the form he had at Texas and be well, this would be a real unanticipated boon for the Defense's pass rush.
-
Should be good news if he can bounce back and (please for his sake) not get a head injury.

I preferred him to Carr but Carr is alright and we have Foxworth, Webb, and Jimmy Smith so I'm not too worried.
-
Lets face it, they were Bazooka Joe's "security blanket" along with Ray Rice.
Now do you think Joe can adjust and find that comfort zone with Dickson & Boldin?
You know I was wondering if maybe another reason they cut these guys was to force Joe and Cam to rely more on Boldin and the younger guys. I tend to think not but I do wonder.
I still think Mase and possibly Heap will be back but at much reduced cost and thats a good thing since we needed cap space.

Sounds like the direction we ought to be headed in, Max.

From the Ravens website...
90 man roster!
This is just the beginning.
Impressed with Berry and Boren. We could sure use the first for a backup to Ray and the second to replace Chester---Maybe!
-
There is no way they are going out there to grab high priced FA's.
Yeah, I agree. We have to resign Yanda and that will cost a chunk. With whats left over, we need reasonably priced FAs to fill our holes.
-
Finally Football, following the O's this year was down right depressing this past month and a half.
That is absolutely how I feel.
-
Now is not the time to experiment. Stick with what you know works. Mason works. Heap works.
I know how you feel but like I said, we desperately need an outside pass rusher and at least one offensive lineman.
-
Typical Ozzie...let them find their value on the market...they maybe he gets them at his price.
Or not typical? Maybe he's going with 'the youth movement'. That would be an organizational change in philosophy. They typically hang on to key players too long.
Could indeed be the beginning of a youth move. In 2010 we drafted 2 TEs. This year we drafted 2 WRs. Maybe its time for Dickson and Pitta to step up and Torrey Smith and Tandon Ross and, damn I forgot his name (old age is a bitch) but that real tall WR we picked up after the season was over to take their positions.
-
The only way to get a pass rusher and offensive lineman to replace Chester is to cut guys so you can sign free agents. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough room under the cap to keep all these guys and fill our needs too.
Still, some of these guys will probably come back with smaller cap numbers.

It's going to move fast and furious...I hear camp and Free Agency start the same day...Friday.
Teams will be wheeling and dealing at a high rate of speed.
The smart ones...the prepared ones, could make huge strides.
It sure is going to be a free-for-all. I have no idea what to expect but I sure hope they sign Yanda and that they turn up some good undrafted rookies.
-
Thanks for this post, Max! At last the Chinese water torture is coming to an end. Now I can worry about our lack of cap space

Like 24-7 News, 24-7 Sports channels need to keep creating stories even when there aren't any. Disgusting.
-
I'm old too and remember John Mackey as the greatest TE I've ever seen. When he caught a pass downfield, it was like watching a bulldozer run over tacklers.
And I agree, the players and NFL do need to do more to take care of their retired vets.
-
So they were doing what all the fans said they were....going to sleep...going thrrough the motions of playing but not playing hard passionate football.
Paycheck stealing.
And Cam let them.
Argree with you OTR. Especially in the playoffs where Joe has had only 1 good game.
Its so hard to separate what Cam calls and how Joe operates. I tend to believe the problem is more Cam's playcalling than Flacco's execution. Also, let's not forget that in the playoffs you would expect your passing stats to drop off from the regular season because the opponents are the cream of the crop.

Here's a list of 16 potential free agents for the Ravens.
Marc Bulger, QB
Le’Ron McClain, FB
Jalen Parmele, RB
T.J. Houshmandzadeh, WR
Donte' Stallworth, WR
Jared Gaither, OT
Marshal Yanda, G
Chris Chester, C
Jameel McClain, ILB
Prescott Burgess, OLB
Fabian Washington, CB
Chris Carr, CB
Josh Wilson, CB
Dawan Landry, SS
Tom Zbikowski, S
Haruki Nakamura, S
With a new CBA it looks like there will be a lower CAP so the Ravens will have to let some of these guys walk.
If you could only keep half of them, which 8 would it be?
Both McClain's, Yanda, Chester, Wilson, Zibby, Nakamura, and (gulp!) Gaither.

Signing Ngata longterm frees up a bunch of cap space and I also agree that we have too many needs (the ones you mentioned above) to go after a guy like Aso.
