Larry Johnson on way to Cincinnati Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on November 16, 2009 1:19 PM ET It looks like the Bengals will keep collecting reclamation projects at running back. ESPN's Michael Smith is reporting that Larry Johnson is currently en route to Cincinnati. Barring a breakdown in talks, L.J. is expected to sign with the Bengals. Soon after Cedric Benson was hurt Sunday, Mike Florio passed along growing rumors that Johnson could land with the Bengals. PFT previously reported Saturday that the Bengals were on a short list to potentially add Johnson, and that was when Benson was fully healthy. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/11/16/larry-johnson-on-way-to-cincinnati/ Given PFTs record, the only reason I posted their article is because it came up first. This story is all over the web though.

11/5: Bengals get ticket extension Posted by jreedy November 5th, 2009, 2:58 pm For the third time this year, the Bengals have received a 24-hour extension to avoid a local television blackout. The Bengals have 3,000 tickets remaining for Sunday's game against Baltimore, which is the same amount of tickets they had at this point for the Oct. 18 game against Houston. If the game is not sold out by 1 p.m. Friday, the game will be blacked out in Cincinnati, Lexington and Dayton. The game will be aired in Columbus. The Bengals have a 48-game regular-season and playoff sellout streak. Through seven games, Bengals ratings locally are up 36 percent with a 33.9 rating and 58 percent market share (it was 25.0/49 last year). That is the second biggest increase in the league with Arizona leading at 37 percent. http://cincinnati.com/blogs/bengals/2009/11/05/115-bengals-get-ticket-extension/

Respect the Raven, but no fear Posted by cludwig November 5th, 2009, 8:11 pm I don't know about you, but I'm concerned. No, it's worse than that. I'm worried, scared, nervous and even a wee bit afraid of the hated and dreaded Baltimore Ravens. I failed to mention — until now, of course — that I'm excited, too. And that I predict the Bengals will beat the Ravens, 24-21, in a mega-slugfest and semi-shootout. I just think the Bengals are a more mature team than the "53-guys, 53-cabs" deal we saw too often in the past. To beat the Monsters of Maryland on Sunday, Nov. 8, the Cincinnati Bengals are going to need monster performances from quarterback Carson Palmer, wide receiver Chad Ochocinco, the offensive line, defense and special teams. Yes, that about covers it. Everybody needs to pitch in and do their part to stop the curse of the villainous Ravens, led by Ray-Ray and his array of Purple People Eaters. http://cincinnati.com/blogs/ludwig/2009/11/05/respect-the-raven-but-no-fear/

Secondary With Something to Prove The Ravens DBs look to repeat their recent success against a talented Bengals passing game. by Mike Duffy Nov 5, 2009, 6:38PM Following a string of lackluster performances, the Ravens' defensive backfield stepped up last week against the Denver Broncos to limit quarterback Kyle Orton to a 71.0 passer rating. The unit will have a chance to demonstrate that such an outing was not an anomaly this weekend when Baltimore travels to Cincinnati to face Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer and his stable of talented wideouts. The Bengals can trot four talented receivers out on the field, and each of them is capable of a big play, something that will test the Ravens' depth. "They have four wide receivers," said cornerback Frank Walker, who was inactive for the Broncos game. "All of them are notables, and they can all hurt you. And they take pride in it. It's not just a bunch of quiet receivers. They're confident. They're talking and walking." http://www.baltimoreravens.com/News/Articles/2009/11/Secondary_Still_Has_Something_to_Prove.aspx

Wilson: Mason itching for a rematch with Bengals
Jungletiger replied to Jungletiger's topic in Baltimore Ravens
Wilson: Ravens' no-huddle offense on a roll With Flacco at the controls, Ravens averaging 28.4 points per contest Aaron Wilson This November 05, 2009, 06:26 PM EST OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Joe Flacco frenetically rushes to the line of scrimmage, signaling with his hands and barking out orders as the play clock ticks down toward zero. The Baltimore Ravens' quarterback calmly looks over the defense before dropping back to deliver yet another completion with his rocket arm. Then, he repeats the accelerated sequence without once huddling up to slow down the pace. The Ravens' no-huddle offense is keeping opposing defenses off-guard and unable to substitute, a strategy that played a major role during a 30-7 victory over the Denver Broncos last weekend. The Ravens executed the no-huddle attack 31 times, per the NFL official game book. http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Wilson-Ravens-nohuddle-offense-on-a-roll.html -
Wilson: Mason itching for a rematch with Bengals Two-time Pro Bowl wideout didn't catch a pass in last game against the Bengals Aaron Wilson November 05, 2009, 07:54 PM EST OWINGS MILLS. Md. -- Baltimore Ravens veteran wide receiver Derrick Mason is determined to prevent the Cincinnati Bengals from duplicating another shutout against him. With the Bengals employing bracket coverage against Mason during a 17-14 win over Baltimore on Oct. 11 at M&T Bank Stadium, Mason was held without a single catch. That has only happened one other time during Mason's five-year tenure in Baltimore. http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Wilson-Mason-itching-for-a-rematch-with-Bengals.html

Ravens to concentrate on stopping Bengals' Benson Game could be key to getting back into AFC North lead By Edward Lee | edward.lee@baltsun.com November 5, 2009 Carson Palmer, Chad Ochocinco and the rest of the Cincinnati Bengals' passing attack garner - rightly - a fair amount of attention from opposing defenses and the media. But when the Ravens visit Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati on Sunday, the defense will undoubtedly place a good portion of its focus on running back Cedric Benson, who gained 120 yards in the Bengals' 17-14 win over their AFC North rivals on Oct. 11. "You definitely want to stop the run, so you've got to pay attention to it," free safety Ed Reed said Wednesday. "He's a very capable back. I've been watching Cedric since he was at Texas. He's more than capable. You've got to make sure you know where he's at." Limiting Benson's production could determine whether the Ravens split the season series with Cincinnati and claw their way back to the top of the division or fall two games behind the Bengals with a pair of dates coming against the Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers. Benson's play in the first contest between these two teams at M&T Bank Stadium was significant: He became the first opposing rusher in 40 games to post 100 yards against the Ravens. http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/ravens/bal-sp.ravens05nov05002017,0,2012164.story

Update: Sack watch; All hands GEOFF HOBSON Posted Nov 5, 2009 Update: 1:35 p.m. This could be the week rookie right end Michael Johnson gets that first NFL sack. That's when it happened for the guy on the other side, Robert Geathers Geathers got his first career sack when he dumped Cowboys quarterback Vinny Testaverde in the eighth game of his rookie season, Nov. 7, 2004 at Paul Brown Stadium. Johnson has been close and Geathers says, "He's doing a lot of good things," but he knows that these are anxious moments for a young player. He knows because he had them and he's counseling Johnson to be patient and to keep doing what they're telling him to do "Defensive ends, D-linemen, you dream to get sacks," Geathers said before Thursday's practice. "Once you get that first one, you got that swag, like, 'I can get back there now.' It's kind of mental. Once he gets that first one it will get rolling for him."

Another underdog day GEOFF HOBSON Posted Nov 5, 2009 Just another day at The Office. Here are the Bengals, undefeated in the AFC North with a win over the Ravens on the road just 25 days ago and one of the hottest quarterbacks in the NFL with seven wins against Baltimore who is still cool enough with his teammates to roll up his shirt sleeves like Dwight Schrute. And they are still underdogs at home against said Ravens in Sunday's 1 p.m. game at Paul Brown Stadium. "Yeah. I'm a little surprised. I didn't know it, but I don't care, either," Carson Palmer said at his Wednesday news conference. Here is Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco, with an average of nearly five catches per game for 15.3 yards per catch against these Ravens in 17 games, saying and doing all the right things in a week he dropped in on offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski during his Tuesday night off to discuss the game plan. And yet the Ravens are favored by three in most circles even though their best receiver didn't have a catch against them last month.

Palmer at his best against Ravens November 5, 2009 12:30 PM Posted by ESPN.com's James Walker CINCINNATI -- It's the statistic no one likes to talk about in Baltimore. It's also a topic those in Cincinnati would rather keep under wraps. But here are the facts: Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer is 7-3 in 10 career starts against the Ravens. He's given the vaunted Baltimore defense more trouble over the years than any quarterback not named Peyton Manning. "If you say we've had success, that'll be your line," said Bengals coach Marvin Lewis, eluding the topic. The truth is, Palmer brings his "A" game against Ray Lewis, Ed Reed and Co. The two-time Pro Bowl quarterback has thrown for 2,506 yards, 13 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 10 career meetings with the Ravens. Rest

If Brad St. Louis is on the roster next week, it will be a travesty. He has played in the NFL for a good while, he should be well off, this is nothing personal, but he is no longer getting the job done, he needs to go. He has cost us games before, but now his botching is becoming a regular occurrence. He needs to be cut.
