Spen Posted August 18, 2013 Author Posted August 18, 2013 (edited) Chris Davis and Roberts with big games. Adam Jones too Edited August 18, 2013 by Spen Quote
varaven45 Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Yep. I think Tampa is the best team in the AL east at the moment. A series win would be huge. Quote
varaven45 Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 However, 0nly 2 runs off 10 hits through 5 innings off David Price ain't getting it done. Os must lead the majors in blown scoring chances - runners in scoring position- w < 2 outs. Can't win if you don't score, esp against Tampa. Quote
cravnravn Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 When we didnt score 2 on that bomb by Wieters, I felt we were in trouble. Quote
varaven45 Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Yup. We should've scored 7-8 runs in the game last night. We definitely put on a clinic on how to squander run scoring opportunities. Buck may have to resort to laying down a suicide bunt from time to time on these based loaded, 1 out situations. This team has left Way to many runs on the fileld and it has killed us. Come late September we are going to remember these kinds of losses. Quote
cravnravn Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 This wekend will test our nerves, Yankees, (1 game behind us) travel to Tampa ( 4 1/2 ahead of us).. Quote
varaven45 Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 This weekend ? How about the rest of the season, Crav. These O's are going to struggle and grind the rest of the season. We will all scoreboard watch from here on, but this team needs to pitch and hit well (especially situationally) to stay in the playoff hunt. Quote
dc. Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 So... it only took 3 pitchers to replace Jim Johnson last night. That's sustainable, right? Quote
Spen Posted August 22, 2013 Author Posted August 22, 2013 (edited) The ideal scenario is certainly for Johnson to get his confidence back....and fast And for some reason it always seems our pitchers are around the 90 pitch mark in the 5th or 6th. That never helps... Edited August 22, 2013 by Spen Quote
dc. Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 The announcers always talk about the high foul ball count our pitchers get - which is totally true. But they make it sound like it's some kind of bad luck on our part. No, in reality it's a part of not-great pitching. Our pitchers don't have an "out" pitch when they get to two strikes. That hurts. Meanwhile, if you rewatch the Matusz and Hunter performances last night - you'll see them get ahead 0-1 in most at bats and wind up at 2-1 because they are going for the "kill" too soon. And batters know it! Quote
Spen Posted August 24, 2013 Author Posted August 24, 2013 Wow. Six career grand slams for Roberts... Quote
Spen Posted August 24, 2013 Author Posted August 24, 2013 Nice win...... might be an important one Quote
cravnravn Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 Nice win...... might be an important one Yes Sir, they are all so important here on out. 4 1/2 back!!!! Quote
varaven45 Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 Yep. We are going to have to play/grind out a .650 or better winnin percentage from here on out. The boys need to keep the damn foot on the pedal every day ! JJ we need you to pitch like last night every time ! Quote
dc. Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 Things that bother me every day... The A's have the easiest schedule in all of baseball. And they are the team we're closest too for the 2nd wild card. The Indians are 10-20 against the AL East, but again, right in the hunt next to the O's for the wild card. Texas has a losing record against BOTH the East and the Central. But are 25 games over against the West. What's wrong with all of those things? The unbalanced schedule. Both get so few games against strong opponents that they can be in the hunt despite not beating good teams. Also, the Rays get to finish the season with a majority of games against the AL West while the O's finish with a majority against the East. The unbalanced schedule is such a load of crap when 40% of playoff spots are determined by overall record. I don't know the solution, but it's just frustrating to watch teams who can't actually beat good teams stroll into the playoffs or into the playoff hunt, while the O's have to fight tooth and nail. The O's can sweep the A's and be tied with them for the AL Wild Card by the end of the weekend. But here's how their schedules play out: O's: R Sox, Yankees, Indians, W Sox, Yankees, Jays, R Sox, Rays, Jays R Sox. (Three series against teams with losing records. Seven against playoff hunt teams). A's: Tigers, Rays, Texas, Astros, Twins, Texas, Angels, Twins, Angels, M's. (Four series against winning records/playoff teams. Six against losing teams.) How I long to end our season against the Angels, Twins, Angels and M's -- !!!!! Quote
cravnravn Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 Great points DC, i totally forgot about the Rays finishing with a *** I'm stupid for thinking this game is easy *** schedule Quote
varaven45 Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 Os squander countless scoring opportunities today. Can't do if they are playoff bound. Quote
Spen Posted August 28, 2013 Author Posted August 28, 2013 Going to be a long night...Chen doesnt have great stuff and we are swinging at everything.... Quote
varaven45 Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Damn, nothing like losing to a New England team and giving up 13. What did they do, miss the extra point ? Oh, wrong sport ! Better luck tomorrow night Quote
Spen Posted August 29, 2013 Author Posted August 29, 2013 Keep hitting home runs Chris, I think that may be the only interesting thing the last few weeks. That is unless things turn around fast Quote
