deeshopper Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Indianapolis is still a bigger TV market than Baltimore, for example. Ranked 25 and 26, respectfully, I think it's a wash.
papasmurfbell Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/12/11/report-obscure-broadcast-contract-term-drove-week-16-flex-decision/ Report: Obscure broadcast contract term drove Week 16 flex decisionTuesday’s decision to replace the Week 16 Sunday night game between the Patriots and Ravens with a showdown between the Bears and Eagles surprised many. And for good reason. The Ravens are chasing the No. 6 seed, the Patriots are chasing the No. 1 seed while trying to hold off the Bengals for the No. 2 seed, and the two teams have met in the last two AFC title games. (That said, Bears-Eagles has significant playoff implications, too.)So why did the NFL swap the games? According to John Ourand of SportsBusiness Journal, the league made the decision in part to have maximum flexibility for the regular-season finale in Week 17.The current broadcast contracts (which expire this year) require that the gap between games pilfered from CBS and FOX for Sunday night be no more than three. If Pats-Ravens hadn’t been flexed, the gap would have been at three, with CBS losing 25 and FOX losing 22. Without taking a game from FOX for Week 16, only FOX could have lost a game for Week 17. Now, both networks are in play for Week 17.The goal for the league (and it’s always an NFL decision, not an NBC decision) when selecting the prime-time game in Week 17 is to identify a game that has playoff implications unaffected by any of the outcomes in the other 15 games. That becomes easiest when two teams are squaring off for a division title, with the winner securing a playoff spot and the loser earning a trip home.
Money Posted December 12, 2013 Author Posted December 12, 2013 I think the decision becomes easiest when the NFL can cash in on the Ravens/Patriots becoming the national game of the week AND the Bears/Eagles becoming the primetime game. CBS and the NFL would have taken a bath with the originally scheduled Steelers/Packers as the national game of the week. As I've said before...if FOX had the national game that week, it would have been Bears/Eagles and the Ravens/Pats game would not have been rescheduled.
cravnravn Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 So according to Pops article, we could possibly be flexed into the Sunday nightger vs Cinncy
papasmurfbell Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 There is no Sunday or Monday night in week 17.
OutsideRzAcE Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 There is no Sunday or Monday night in week 17. There is a Sunday Nighter, but they don't announce it until week 16 games are done.
papasmurfbell Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 http://www.nfl.com/schedules/2013/SNFNBC gets the openning Thu game to make up for no SNF week 17. It is why there are 2 MNF games week 1 for ESPN.
OutsideRzAcE Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 Dude, it says in that article you posted that there is a prime time game week 17. The whole reason they flexed the Ravens out of primetime next week is for SNF to have maximum flexibility for week 17. This is what that article says.
