TBird Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 Squeelers sure did. What a draft pick this dude has been starting in his second year. What a great draft 2013 was with 4 starters - Brandon, KJ (made first team alternate for pro bowl), Wagner - 2d best RT in game and Elam who made big play with INT on conversion pt attempt. Ozzie picked up all these starters plus Mosley, Jernigan and Gilmore from this years draft - all have started at various points in the year. Gilmore filled in for Pitta with a big Td. But Back to Williams who was a wrecking ball in the middle of Piss' line. We won this game inthe trenches with Bradon and Ngata crushing their line. From Film Study's notes. Williams outplayed all 3 interior linemen and Pouncey in particular. In addition to a number of disruptions which supported other tacklers, he was party to 6 tackles on Saturday on which the gains were 2, 0, -9, 3, 3, and 2 yards. NTs don’t typically make many tackles, but when they do, it’s a good thing for the defense. Quote
RavenMad Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 I really liked this kid coming into the draft. If he went to a Power 5 Conference he would have been a 1st round pick. But coming from a small school he just killed it at Senior Bowl Week. He had the perfect NT body with + athleticism (wasn't he the guy that walked about on his hands?) Yes Quote
papasmurfbell Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 He is such a stud. In 2 yrs I think he will be in the PB. Quote
varaven45 Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 He is good, very good. And I really like how he goes quietly/humbly about his trade - brings his hardhat/lunch pail to work. I much prefer this approach to the recent Pernell McPhee rant about " we are a dangerous defense" , blah blah. Just play the damn game, do your job and let the chips fall where they may. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 When you were pumping out porta johns you get humble. Quote
varaven45 Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Or my personal, timeless favorite: "And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he humbles himself will be exalted". Quote
papasmurfbell Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 I could see McPhee being one of those guys getting the big payday elsewhere and doing nothing. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Ellerbee was OK. There have been some who were awful when they left. Quote
RavenMad Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Ellerbee was OK. There have been some who were awful when they left.Speaking of which, I saw Adalius Thomas on tv at the Ravens game. I actually thought he would break the mold of failed FAs when hecwent to NE but even he sucked balls. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 I blame Belicheck for that. He turned him into a MLB instead of using him all over. It made no sense. Actually he will be at bacon and beer on Fri. I am going to ask him about NE. Quote
TBird Posted January 7, 2015 Author Posted January 7, 2015 Exactly, it's the system here why they do so well here. Look at Bart Scott and ED Hartwell toogoing to new systems. Thanks for explaining about the smaller conference for Brandon. I wondered how he dropped to the3rd but someone else besides Oz should have known about him. Ozzie gets these unknowns and develops them every single year, offense too like Hurst and Urschel and Wagner who became the2d best RT in only his second year - same as Brandon at NT. Ozzie then signs a bunch of new faces like Melvin, Hill and Stewart. Just think of our secondary nextyear whe Jimmy return and WEbbie is completely healthy. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 I think he was Div 3 maybe. It is way past smaller conf. Give the scouting staff a lot of credit finding him. As for Bart he was OK. Heran the system in NY for a while but I also think his skills eroded quickly. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 BTW Hurst was rated at a 1st or 2ns round level before his injury. I liked Wagner a lot coming out. He was not a hard find. Quote
TBird Posted January 7, 2015 Author Posted January 7, 2015 Yea, Hurst and Wagner would have been high draft picks, top 3 at least but they were bothinjured during the draft. About a dozen teams tried to sign Hurst but he picked the Ravens because it was the bestchance of making the team. Man, did he do his homework or what. He was the first undraftedLT ever to start a playoff game. Wagner was injured too and comes from those big Wisconsin lines like Joe Thomas but Ravenssigned him. Quote
cravnravn Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 See pops this is why we have a successful team, its all about these little finds with our picks. And of all the linebackers that have left the system Bart Scott was the most successful, elerbee is the biggest dissapointment. Quote

He saw that the Ravens OL was in flux. See pops this is why we have a successful team, its all about these little finds with our picks. I have said that for yrs. You are saying you have faith in Ozzie to find talent. So why wouldn't you want him to trade out old talent and get loaded with picks to find new young talent? Quote
cravnravn Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Because you want to do that in their prime, stock loading picks is not a succesful way to do things.it ain't broke so why even suggest your way to try and fix something, from 2000 on this team has had as much success as any other team in the NFL. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Many of them are going to leave anyways via cap casualty. I say get value for our development time. Quote
cravnravn Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 And every year we reload via the draft and free agency, I like the way our system works, I bet 30 other teams would. Us and new england do things alike. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Not quite. Bill gets value for the guy he cuts loose. Quote
vmax Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Not quite. Bill gets value for the guy he cuts loose. This is a stupid argument. Definitely since Harbaugh got here, the Ravens are the most successful franchise in the NFL.New England and the Ravens run neck to neck as far as being the best. Therefore, whatever the Ravens are doing, it's damn good. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 They can be better. They can string a number of championships together if they do better than the rest of the league. Quote
TBird Posted January 8, 2015 Author Posted January 8, 2015 Ravens have had success in NE minus the one disaster with Lee Evansand Bily Goat but they win more up there than anyone else including the last timeon way to SB47 but I give most of the credit to Ozzie for feeding all thoseplayers to HARBs. Ozzie loses guys like Art Jones, Ellerbe and Kruger every year andreplaces McPhee, Jernigan, Brandon Williams and Doooooom. Ozzie should have a couple more rings with all the talent he gave Billickand HARBs. I blame the coaching when Torrey Smith doesn't put his second footdown for the TD. Every little leaguer knows you gotta drag two feet across butthe Raves never told Torrey. He even said I'll have to improve to get that foot downthe next time. Every little leaguer knows you have to secure the ball when catching it but theRavens didn't tell Lee EVans about it although he was around long enough to know. But HARBs still has more POs than just about anyone. Quote
