TBird Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 A lot of love here for Oz. Adam and Pat are the only two reasons I missSiri but Oz does pretty well in March too. He just signed an experiencedbackup QB who knows the system and last year he signed SteveSmith, Forsett and Daniels plus Doooom and Mason in other years. Now where's those turkeys who want the Ravens to join a scoutingcombine. Balto and NE do well w/o em. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000483184/article/ravens-in-super-bowl-50-do-your-draft-thing-ozzie-newsome Quote

ForceEight Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 And? It's okay to make mistakes! I really want to drink the purple punch when reading articles like this, but it's easy to remember that they are definitely painting a picture and not actually being realistic. The front office is one of the best at draft analyzation and execution no doubt, but I dunno whether it's safe to assume that the team will always "be okay" with that kind of reliance. Quote
TBird Posted April 7, 2015 Author Posted April 7, 2015 Adam Schein is telling the truth. Ozzie has all those comp picks and he'spoised for SB 50. He'll have Jimmy and Webbie back in the secondary. Wewould have won it all in 2014 if not for the injuries to the secondary andit still took a trick play and the bending of the rules to beat it. A guy whomOzzie plucked off the streets 3 weeks before was kicking their ass - twice-with a 2 TD lead before NE turned those tricks. He loses Ellerbe and Art Jones and replaces them with Brandon Williamsand MOsley. He loses Ngata and has Jernigan who filled in greatly forhim during the season and had a good POs. He loses Boldin but signsSteve Smith Sr who had 1,000 yrds. That wasn't purple cool aid. It was the truth by a guy who isn't even a Ravens fan but appreciates Ozzies skills as the best GM in the game. Quote
ForceEight Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 No argument that Ozzie is one of if not the best. Only taking umbrage to the idea that that alone means we'll be great and SB-bound. I just hate the broad stroke boiling down of the situation year in and year out. Yes, they were creaming the Pats in the divisional round (before they eventually lost). Yes, they were there in the first place. But it happened at the tail end of a barely 10-6 season that saw even more roster churn and burn than the season previous, and it's really likely that--looking at the number of reasonably assumed holes--this year will be even more of a mix up than the last two. What I'm saying is that I'm a jerk and hate Kool-Aid. But it is really cool when it's being enjoyed by the national media. Quote
TBird Posted April 7, 2015 Author Posted April 7, 2015 Again, it's true.Ravens are poised for the SB and one of the onlyteams.Like I said, we would have won it all last year if not for theinjuries and shouldn't have even been in the POs with that secondaryand they shut Marsha down for a half. Now they have Jimmy and Webbie back. They only need 1 or 2players to win it all this year barring injuries again. Oz will take the BAA as usual but has the luxary to take Maxx Williams@26 because we need a TE or Gurley or Mel Gordon at RB which wewill need next year. He can groom the RB behind Forsett and Tallyand even put him in at spots. If it's Gurley they can just rehab him whilehe's learning the playbook and system. Next year he'll be ready. The team is this close to another SB. Nothing cool aide about it. Quote
cravnravn Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 I always drink the kool aid this time of the year, that's what having the best front office in the league does to a fan, where ever and whom ever we draft will fit the Ravens system, I feel we are only 2 players away from the Superbowl (db and safety). And on offense the front office must feel that a combo of Aiken, brown can produce better then the combo of Torrey and Jones, looking forward to seeing that on the field myself. I'm not second guessing Oz & Co ever again, not getting my blood pressure up because we didn't grab a planner I felt we needed at a certain position. The brass is too good at this drafting game. For me, it's enough that year in and year out, game after game, the Ravens field a team that always has a shot to win.The fan in me says that's all I ask for. Then, once in a while, a year like 2000 and 2012 comes along....and you shit your pants. Quote

TBird Posted April 8, 2015 Author Posted April 8, 2015 We are truly fortunate to be living in the Baltimore area in the erawe have and are living in with all the great Baltimore Colts gamesand championships including the greatest game ever played. Noother city can say that. They went to two SBs too winning one beforethey were dismantled and shipped out. Then the Ravens come here and become one of the most successfulteams in sports always winning and often getting into the POs asa dominant team for over a decade and they have 2 SB trophies,AFC-N trophies and AFC trophies. I really feel for the Clowns fans who have never been to the SB andteams like Cinci, Buffalo and Minn that never won one. They were allthere but its even been decades since while Ravens were thechamps just 24 months ago. And don't forget the Os in baseball with all their series and trophies beforePetey dismantled them but now he has rebuilt them into a PO teamjust missing the series by 4 games last year. How's that for drinking cool aid. ;) Quote
cravnravn Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 (edited) Dont feel sorry for Clowns fans, I got visited by TWO of them on a daily basis, they're obnoxious as hell and when I try to be civil with them and explain the difference between Model & Irsay, they want no parts of it. They think there is no difference in the moves. And we absolutely are the luckiest fans on the planet, we've witnessed the greatest qb, the greatest 3rd baseman, greatest short stop to play their sport. Edited April 8, 2015 by cravnravn Quote
TBird Posted April 8, 2015 Author Posted April 8, 2015 Don't forget we had 3 of the greatest QBs in football: UNITAS, BERT JONES AND JOE FLACCO. Yea, you're right about Clowns fans but I try to put myself in theirplace. Their coach that won nothing there is fired and becomes a HOFcoach in NE. The team which won nothing since 1964 leaves and wins the SB rightoff the bat after Modell let Ozzie make all the decisions. I tell them that we didn't want to steal the Browns. I was embarrassed but the NFLmade us do it. Had TAGS done the right thing and give expansion teamsto St Louis and Bmore, the Clowns would still be in Leaveland and theRams wouls still be in LA and that's why TAGs hasn't been electedinto the HOF. Even with being out of football for 12 years we have has many NFL championships as Pissburgh going back to pre-SB days which theydon't count since they don't have any were the laughing stock in sports. Baltimore won NFL championships in 585968 - That was before the merger and counts as an NFL championship.7020002012 Quote
oldno82 Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Don't forget we had 3 of the greatest QBs in football: UNITAS, BERT JONES AND JOE FLACCO. Glad to see you remembered Bert. Because his career was injury shortened he sometimes isn't recognized for the great QB he was. Quote
cravnravn Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Mehhh Bert was OK, just got tired of getting bounced out of the playoffs after one game, although I'm glad we were getting g blown out during the Pitt playoff game or a lot of fans would have been killed/injured when the goof ball crashed his plane into the upper deck. vmax Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 I hate enjoying things though. Then you should be a Browns or Indigenous Persons fan. Quote
TBird Posted April 9, 2015 Author Posted April 9, 2015 Nobody would have won those POs with the defense Berthad. It gave up 77 points in 2 of the 3 PO games includingthe ghost to post game. Laird who practiced vs Bert and had a 90 yard TD run afterintercepting the ball and they still lost that game said Bertthrew so hard I heard it zinging past his ears. When asked if Bert was as good as Elway as far as pure armstrength and accuracy Lydell Mitchell at the very least as goodmaybe better. Bellicheat said Bert had the best arm he ever saw and his firstjob was with the Colts when Bert was here. He always said thatand repeated it again during SB 49 week with Brady there. The young guys point to Flacco's durability which is better andhis ring and POs wins but that doesn't mean he has the better arm. That's like saying Otto Graham was better than Unitas with all hisrings. He won 3 NFL championships in a row plus another one plusall the ones in the old all american conference. He also threw nothing but short passes, seldom if ever going deeplike John who revolutionized the game and put football on the samemap as baseball, basketball and hockey. Before that it was consideredminor league. He was also responsible for the AFL when all those cities want pro teamsand formed the merger and then passed baseball as America's game. Quote

In fact he carried the team in my opinion in '77. The main difference between the 75-77 and the ones that followed was that Bert was hurt. He sometimes tried to play and that made us win some of the few games we did win after 77. After his shoulder injury in 78 followed by another in 79 (and trying to play through them at times), Bert was no longer super. But he sure was before that. And I give Marchibroda credit for teaching Bert the pro game. Quote
cravnravn Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 The play calling in overtime in the ghost to the post game was horrid, they knew the d was suspect, yet we run 3/up the gut and march out David Lee, that game still pisses me off Quote

oldno82 Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 Yup, Marchibroda was a good personal tutor for Bert but his game plans usually sucked because he was way too conservative. I remember EVERY game starting with "Hey diddle diddle Lydell up the middle". That last playoff game pissed everybody off. Quote

And I give Marchibroda credit for teaching Bert the pro But then March got Bert killed with the plays he ran and bringing him back too soon. I saw Bert warming up on the side line and could see the pain in his face as he threw from where I was sitting. Bertwas balls, pure balls. Also, Flacco has the Brady rule where no one cantouch a QB while Bert was injured on a dirty play and thrown into theground. Today, they can't even thug the receivers going down field whileBert's guys got killed. Even the players were upset with those plays. The defenses called the playsout before the snap which upset the offense and even the fans were callingthe plays out and saying hey fiddle diddle, Mitchell up the middle. ILMAO As for the OT game, all the play calling was horrible on both sides. Thefirst OT ended the same as regulation in a tie. Then OAK won it on theghost to post play. It's currently the 5th longest game in history. Quote
cravnravn Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 The Brady rule doesn't apply to Joe, I've seen him take plenty of illegal shots, if Joes jersey number would have been 12 or 18 there would have laundry all over the field. The Detroit game 2 years ago where the defender lunged at Joe's knee sticks out the most. Quote
