papasmurfbell Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Who cares if he has a ring? He was a vet on the roster with the 2 rookies. Quote
TBird Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 The Ravens offense is a TE offense which was a weakness last season instead of the killer strength it could be. They badly need depth at this position...and blockers. Now they have 2 legit blockers in Gilmore and Boyle. This is a very important element that forces teams to play honest due to the threat to run the ball.Boyle has been most impressive in rookie camp this weekend accord toRavens report. He's the best blocking TE we have and he can catch too.Ravens will use a lot of 2 TE sets like last year under Kubes and Nick couldbe the 2d TE because of his blocking. He's a mean looking dude. Check out his pic in the portrait thread for rookies. Quote

TBird Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 So who was that guy on the roster. Todd something who was a tight end. What was his last name? I guess he just sucked and was a nothing though.Heap was old and slow and so was Mason. They were both cut as Ozzie went with youth and speed. Damn shame neither one got a ring. They won a lot of ball games for the Ravens but never made it to the big dance. Quote

TBird Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Im just saying they drafted Pitta and Dickson as TEs in the samedraft. I'm also saying this which came afterwards. With the NFL lockout over, the Baltimore Ravens have begun to shed veteran players. First on the chopping block: wide receiver Derrick Mason. Mason will be released when the league calendar permits it. Sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter on Monday that Baltimore also has told running back Willis McGahee and tight end Todd Heap they will be cut. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/6801735/baltimore-ravens-plan-cut-derrick-mason-willis-mcgahee-todd-heap-too Quote
papasmurfbell Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 But again they had an established vet on the roster when they drafted both. So Gilmore is your established vet? Quote
TBird Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Don't forget about Supernow. I was thinking they'd move Nick to thepractice squad but he was the most impressive player in camp overthe weekend. He's the best blocking TE we have now and couldbe in the 2 TE set for blocking. Maxx will be in for receiving but don't coun't Supernow out. Ravensmight go with 4 TEs til Pitta returns, if he comes back. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 He has 2 seasons and has played in a total of 9 games. Gilmore has more playing experience than he does. Quote
TBird Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Yes, Gilmore is the established TE vet now and Ravens justcut Supernaw and Wenning the backup QB who was onthe PS. Ravens have the youngest and best 1-2-3 punch at TE inNFL. They ran a lot of 2 TE sets last year and will this year and willalternate the 3 of them. Gilmore and Nick for running plays andGilmore and Maxx for passing plays. Nick is the best blocker of the group. He had a great SR Bowl weekand rookie camp last weekend. His success continues. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 A 2nd yr TE from Col St that split time as a DE there is the vet. What could possibly go wrong? Quote

TBird Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 HARBs just said today that 6'6, 240 lb Waller could be used as a TEin passing situations. Think of the mis-matches over the middleand in the red zone vs the line backers. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Supernaws gone. Maybe they are feeling good about Pita.Pitta is gone. He is done. They are going to ride with 3 TE's like normal. Quote
TBird Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 How about this for a suggestion. Put the 6'6, Waller at TE. Just think of the mis-matches he wouldcreate at that height? Ravens have a lot of options and plenty of depth at TE if not muchexperience. Gilmore did ice the wild card game in Piss last yearwith a TD late in the game. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 I like the upside of all three but as much as I am told this is the yr to make the run then not having a vet makes no sense. If this was a deffer yr and putting the team in position then I would say roll with the youth. Quote
TBird Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 They might still sign a vet TE although they're looking for secondaryhelp. See conference call thread. I'm not worried. This is one of the few teams poised to go to the SBwith so much talent and depth. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 But a position with no exp. That is really lacking foresight. Quote
TBird Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Most guys on the boards are pretty stoked at the sudden glut in talent and depth we have at TE - all except 1 poster here. Quote
oldno82 Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Playing these guys is a good development. I hate it when a coach won't let a rookie play even when that rookie is better than the vet that's there. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 When there is a situation when you need the catch I am not sure throwing a rookie in is best strategy. Quote
TBird Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Depends on the rookie. Clayton, Doss & TT - no, Boldin and Roddy White and Julio - yes. Quote
cravnravn Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Didn't we start a rookie in 08 at the most important position on the field and made it to the AFC chanpionship game? Didn't we win a super bowl with 2 rookie TEs in 12? Quote
