twilightzonewilltherealmartianpleasestan "Here's another guy to keep an eye on this pre season...

While at the University of Iowa, Carl Davis built a reputation as a dominant run-stuffing, space-eating defensive lineman who was capable of fighting through double-teams to wrap up ball carriers.

Now, Davis will look to live up to that billing as he tries to carve out his place with the Baltimore Ravens during his rookie campaign...Standing at 6-foot-5, 320 pounds, Davis adds a lot of beef to a Ravens defense that hasn't allowed a 100-yard rusher in 26 straight games and finished ranked fourth in run defense last season. "… I want to win games," Davis said. "My motivation in life has always been to win championships. … I just got this drive to be a champion this year. I really hope that it can be this year. "[The Ravens] have a high demand out of their defense," Davis said. "Everything starts up front, and for me to be drafted here, that says a lot about how they feel about me, because this is a special program. They just don't pick anybody -- they have a great tradition of defensive lineman."http://www.pressboxonline.com/2015/07/23/ravens-carl-davis-getting-acclimated-to-life-in-the-nfl

It's been a long time since Goose and Adams but each group of D linemen have their own styles and ways of being dominant (like Buddy Lee). This new group has to #1 stop the run. Then keep blockers off Smith and Mosley and #3; eat RB's and QB's.

Too early for Davis photos but this one caught my eye...

I love this pick. The guy was critiqued for taking plays off but he is mad coming into training camp. With our defensive line depth we do not need him to be an every down player. I could see Davis being a very effective part time player for us this year against the run.

If I remember correctly, weren't Perriman, Maxx and Davis all mentioned in the first round in many mock drafts?

Si, sen'or.

With Urban and Canty coming in at 6-7 and Davis 6-5 i'm looking forward to seeing if those guys can bat down some passes, when Urban, Canty, and Davis get on the field together we can call the "the wall" d-line

I was in fort laudrdale a couple months ago at the Tiki Bar. My friend said there is a Raven in here; it was Keleche Osemele.

We talked for about an hour I asked him who he thought was the best draft pick and his answer was Carl Davis.

He said he is a man-child with a ton of upside and scary strength.

I was surprised happily at that pick and he was adamant.

I also got a pic it's him my buddy on FB say me and him look like Devito and Arnold S. From the movie Twins...smh...lol

Ravens were shocked he was still on the board and jumped on him.

He's having a good camp thus far and so is Urban.

Ozzie keeps finding these studs.

This is from the UPDATES thread and it mentions his strength.

Here's another rookie who has opened eyes with his confined-space strength and quickness.

Ozzie selected a first round pick in each of the first 3 rounds. Granted, they have to pan out, but still, what an accomplishment!

He's compared to Linval JOseph of the Vikings.

He dominated at the SR Bowl with an unblockable first step burst like Suggs. Thats

the key to his success.

He has long 34" arms and can easily shed blockers while shooting the gaps. He's

well coached.

Davis has a full set of pass-rushing moves, too, and he’ll bust out a spin move

and an over/under arm rip. He’s well-coached with good technique and an ability

to understand on the go

He had his ups and downs last year and got tired which forces his pads up but

that can be corrected and was part of the scheme. That's where the man child

statement comes from KO. He still has to grow and mature.

I see him contributing similar to Jernigan last year.
