geo Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 No more mistakes Schefter. Let it be true! After declining to draft a kicker, the Baltimore Ravens are close to signing one. Baltimore is closing in on a one-year deal with former Cincinnati Bengals Pro Bowl kicker Shayne Graham, according to league sources. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5238650 Quote
millz58 Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 closer now to a deal, he's in town... http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5243929 Quote
BengalBilly Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 Okay guys, here's the deal with Shayne, and I'll start with the good stuff first. He's one of the nicest guys in the league. A better than average kicker. Now for the other side of the coin... If you're looking for kickoffs to land in the end zone, that rarely happens with Graham. If you're looking for a clutch kick to win the game, it happens with the same regularity as the previously mentioned kicks. If the Ravens are ahead in any future games and bring in the FG unit, he does well from kicking when his team is in the lead. Quote

cravnravn Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 He'll never make the team (praying real hard) Quote
geo Posted June 3, 2010 Author Posted June 3, 2010 Signed.. 2,5 mill for one year. Huge upgrade compared to Stovers late year and Cundiff. http://blogs.baltimoreravens.com/2010/06/03/graham-officially-signs-one-year-contract/ Quote

It's 2.5 IF he reaches incentives. I was worried we gave that much money to a guy we aren't sure is going to be our kicker. I'm actually a big fan of this move though, Graham was a Pro-Bowler at one time and would still be with Cincy had he not choked in one game last year. Quote
vmax Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 The Ravens only made 70% of their field goals last year which is borderline horrible IMO. Graham's an upgrade...a step in the right direction. Quote
cravnravn Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Im as excited at this signing as I'm watching oil spill into the Gulf. Hes a has been, he single footidly cost the Bengals the playoffs last year. The Ravens only made 70% of their field goals last year which is borderline horrible IMO Take out Houshkas shanks, and Cunduff was 82% Quote

NO. 82% was Grahams number last year, and it was considered a down year for him, there is a reason for why he is the top 4-5 most accurate kicker ever. Cundiff Try 70%! And Hauschka 69%. Oh and you could argue that Cundiff did worse, half of Cundiffs FGs was for less than 30 yards, while Hauschka only had one less than 30 yard. And yes I would have kept the rookie over Cundiff, even after the Vikes game. Quote

I've actually heard the exact opposite. I heard he's a complete jerk that was not well liked in Cincy's lockeroom at all, which was a large reason in why he was not re-signed. Quote

I stand corrected, he was 18 out of 23 for 78.3%Not bad, since he is a 73% career kicker. Quote

Hes a has been, he single footidly cost the Bengals the playoffs last year. The Bengals lost 24-14. Graham missed two field goals... 3 + 3 + 14 only = 20, that is still less than 24. It is not Graham's fault the Bengals snapping situation was horrible the whole season, or that Palmer was sacked 3 times that game and went only 18/36 for 146 yards with an INT. The Bengals defense let up touchdowns of 39 and 45 yards. Graham hardly lost that game and Bengals fans need to stop blaming him. The guy was an elite kicker from 2003-2008. Quote
vmax Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 What's interesting is that the Bengals wanted him back but he wanted out of there.Marvin Lewis can spin his "Deamons" thing till the cows come home but I don't buy it. He wanted Graham.I think Graham wanted out of that Zoo. Quote
millz58 Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 look y'all WTF who cares we got a decent experienced kicker, which is a far f'n cry from what we had last year. chill... Quote

But he cant hit the endzone on kickoffs, so now we are faced with, should keep 2 kickers, one for field goals and a kickoff specialist? Quote

Seriously, Graham had 8 touchbacks last year, the same as the last three years. His average kickoff was 63.3 yards, so if I did my math correctly that puts his AVERAGE kick on the 1.7 yard line. The returner is standing on the goal line when he catches his average kick. Harbs is NOT going to keep 2 kickers and you know that. That's the reason he got rid of Stover. So lets be honest here. RavenMad Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 His average kickoff was 63.3 yards, so if I did my math correctly that puts his AVERAGE kick on the 1.7 yard line. Unfortunately you did your math wrong. The kick off is made from the 30 yard line. 20 yards to half way and then another 50 yards to the goal line = 70 yards. Therefore and average kick off of 63.3 yards places the ball just over the 7 yard line or at 6.7 yards to be precise. Quote

He kicks off to the 6.7 yard line, than you tack on the 22.2 return average, and the opposition is starting at the 29 yard line..Thats not good, that changes the offensive scheme to an open up offense...
