vmax Posted April 27, 2019 Posted April 27, 2019 There is a ton of talent on this 2019 Ravens offensive roster.A ton of speed. They could keep defenses off balance, confused and out of position.Any missed tackle "could be" a TD. That's real pressure. Success hinges one one guy. They have to be able to successfully pass or water in the gas tank will choke it out. While Jackson has been working on his mechanics this offseason, Baltimore has invested in his future. It's all on Jackson's shoulders at this point to turn four recent wide receiver selections into at least an average passing attack...........https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/ravens-qb-lamar-jackson-early-winner-of-2019-nfl-draft/ar-BBWlvgF?ocid=U508 Lamar has been putting in the hard work. He's confident. And he looks very excited at the presents Eric has provided. Quote
vmax Posted April 27, 2019 Author Posted April 27, 2019 Oh yea!Justice Hill!Speed kills. You can see where this offen6is going now. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 The question is can he throw accurately and not look to break and run so much? Quote
vmax Posted April 28, 2019 Author Posted April 28, 2019 “I think it just makes it hard to focus on one guy,” DeCosta said. “We played a lot of teams, really good offenses, this year. I had a chance to sit up in the press box and watch some of these offenses, and one of the main common denominators is speed. It makes it tough as a defense. As good as our defense has been, it’s a challenge for a team to face speed when you have multiple guys on the field at the same time who can run and make explosive plays. We got a chance to see what Lamar can do this past year, and I think our vision, collective vision, for the offense is to add more guys like that to make it really challenging on the defense.” Quote
vmax Posted April 30, 2019 Author Posted April 30, 2019 The Vision: A picture of what the Ravens are assembling around Lamar Jackson started to come into focus during last week's draft. Three of Baltimore's first four picks were devoted to a supporting cast that complements one of the most unique quarterback talents in the league..Wide receiver Marquise Brown, the Ravens' first-round pick, is among the fastest players that ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay has ever evaluated. Wide receiver Miles Boykin, a third-round selection, was among the 20 fastest players at the NFL combine. And running back Justice Hill, a fourth-rounder, was the fastest running back in Indianapolis in February....Eric DeCosta said after his first draft as the Ravens general manager. "We got a chance to see what Lamar can do this past year, and I think our vision, collective vision, for the offense is to add more guys like that to make it really challenging on the defense."....http://www.espn.com/blog/baltimore-ravens/post/_/id/49523/ravens-vision-of-lamar-jackson-offense-revealed-through-draft Quote
oldno82 Posted April 30, 2019 Posted April 30, 2019 I like the concept a lot but I agree with Papa about Lamar not looking to run so much. Quote
GrubberRaven Posted April 30, 2019 Posted April 30, 2019 Interesting... 10. Joe Flacco has more important things to worry about after Denver selected Missouri quarterback Drew Lock in the second round, but it’s crazy the Ravens drafted as many wide receivers for Jackson in the first three rounds this weekend as they did over Flacco’s entire 11-year run. https://wnst.net/top-story/crabs-n-beer/twelve-ravens-thoughts-following-2019-nfl-draft/ Quote
vmax Posted April 30, 2019 Author Posted April 30, 2019 It's a change in philosophy that comes with the changing of the guard. Eric has seen enough of what "at the end of their career" receivers bring to the offense. Just like under Billick the Ravens kept recycling QB's. The thought here was "why draft a QB, spend a few years developing him, only to see him scooped up in free agency?" Get a proven commodity. But most of these receiversv and QB's are recycled from the trash heap. There are a few gems every now and then like Steve Smith , Boldin and Mason. There's a ton of clunkers to go with that group.Speed is the other issue. You don't add speed with the aging vets and in today's NFL, being fast is a must. This offense had to get fast in a hurry with a talent like Lamar. He needs the compliments to his game now....not a guy here, a guy there over the next few years. 1 Quote
vmax Posted May 1, 2019 Author Posted May 1, 2019 All true and some good news........... The Ravens also quietly added a respected passing-game expert in January when they hired David Culley to coach their wide receivers. Culley has worked with receivers and quarterbacks during his long career as an NFL assistant, and Ravens Head Coach John Harbaugh wants him to map out a passing game for inclusion in Roman’s offense. His job description includes the title “pass coordinator.”Harbaugh asked Roman to work similar magic with the running game in 2017. It had slipped to near the bottom of the league in production the year before. Roman, a run-game expert, was hired to get it rolling again for then-Offensive Coordinator Marty Mornhinweg. It has been solid ever since. The organization hasn’t shorted Culley on promising, young material to work with as he attempts to similarly re-boot the passing game. Brown, Boykin and tight ends Mark Andrews and Hayden Hurst are all high picks from the past two drafts, and to repeat, while blocking is certainly part of what they’ll be asked to do, they’re here primarily to catch the ball, making the offense more than just a run-centric unit.Of course, any plan to solidify the passing game depends largely on how much Jackson improves as a passer in his second pro season....https://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/eisenberg-ravens-draft-shows-commitment-to-passing-game It would be fabulous if Cully can do for the passing game what Roman did for the run. oldno82 Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 It's going to have more to do with Lamar's passing improving more than anything else Very gratifying to hear Lamar is working with a personal passing coach this off-season. Shows a real commitment and leadership. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted July 12, 2019 Posted July 12, 2019 I heard on the radio that Lamar and Griffin are down in Fla throwing with Snead and Moore. They at least want to get better. Quote
