papasmurfbell Posted September 20, 2019 Posted September 20, 2019 https://ebonybird.com/2019/09/19/ravens-trade-offer-jalen-ramsey/ Now, it seems that the Ravens have at least some interest in acquiring the corner that they tried to move up for in the 2016 NFL Draft. It’s certainly the right move, considering his talent, age, and injuries at the position. The question is what will Baltimore have to offer to seize his rights? If done right the Ravens realy might have the fire power to win it all. Quote
tsylvester Posted September 20, 2019 Posted September 20, 2019 I'm not sure about this move. Sure, he is under contract for the next two years, but he thinks he is the best corner in the league, and them he sees what it will cost a team to trade for him, atleast a 1 & 3rd, then what? A 1 year rental, or do you go cap strapped next year to give him the most money ever for a corner? They did that with C-Mac & Smith, don't forget they will have to pay Lamar, if he pans out, over $100 mil, most of it guarenteed, in a year or two as well... They have the youth and talent on the team if they can stay healthy. They have the draft picks to keep supplying the secondary and offensive line for the next few years. Yes this league is weak this year due to injuries & retirement, so keep what you have, build wisely. If Lamar was only going to be good for 2 games then you are stuck with no draft picks, and an expensive corner. Or what about the highly drafted rookie wide outs? Again, it has only beed 2 games, how do we know they will pan out, stay healthy? Too many questions about this team and we haven't talked about the weakness on defense at linebacker, to make a move this big for a player, while very good, drove a brinx truck to training camp. Who demanded a trade because he didn't like doing things his head coach's way.... No thanks Quote
papasmurfbell Posted September 20, 2019 Author Posted September 20, 2019 Ramsey is better than Smith ever was. If you trade for him ink him immediately to a long term deal. Lamar is under control for 3 more yrs. If Lamar keeps this up through next yr lock him down early. Brown is under control for 4 yrs past this one. The TEs are locked down for 3 yrs past this one. The iron is hot. Go in on it. Quote
tsylvester Posted September 20, 2019 Posted September 20, 2019 Talent is not the issue, my point is they paid and are still paying for corners. So you think if Lamar keeps this pace up he is going to play under his rookie deal for 2, 3 years? We can say just lock him down early but we know it is up to the player. His game is 50% pass, 50 run. One injury and his career is all but done and because he runs, that puts him at higher risk especially with his size, Cam Newton, Andrew Luck come to mind. My pount about the receivers is that we still have no idea if they will pan out, if they don't and you use 2 or more draft picks on a corner, you are screwed. Sure, it takes 3 years or so to know for sure, but by the end of this year we should have a good indication. Either way, if Brown does pan out, there is another boat load of cap money, and you can bet, if he has a 1,000 yard season in either this or the next year, he is not going to play for his rookie deal in year 3..... Quote
papasmurfbell Posted September 20, 2019 Author Posted September 20, 2019 Lamar is in yr 2. If he plays at a high level the rest of this yr and in yr 3 it is time to ink him long term to a friendly deal. He would have shown a sample set of is very good play that leads the team. It is also time for the DCs to have made adjustments and for Lamar to adapt to them. If his representation asks for a crazy deal trade him. Do not allow him to exceed 15% of the cap. It is about risk. If you never risk you will never win a SB. But you have to make calculated risks. Quote
tsylvester Posted September 20, 2019 Posted September 20, 2019 I get it, but adding Ramsey does not improve this defense as much as some may think. Jefferson is still a liability in coverage, he is still getting lost. The linebackers still can not cover and are inconsistent in their zone drops. We can debate the miscommunication that continues to plague this defense going all the back to when Ray & Ed left; but it is there, was there when Mosely & Weddle made the calls, is there now. I'm not aure who is to blame for this since it has gone on for years, even through a coach change, maybe it is too much freelance? In any event, Ramsey is not going to fix that, sure, he may lock down a side, or a receiver, maybe.... Quote
papasmurfbell Posted September 20, 2019 Author Posted September 20, 2019 I agree on Jefferson. I would have cut him too. But you can pretty much put Ramsey and Humphrey on an island and allow the other 5 players to deal with the coverage of everyone else. While not a perfect solution it is a solid one. Quote
tsylvester Posted September 20, 2019 Posted September 20, 2019 Smith would be, I think, a great safety, far better fhan Jefferson. But he can't stay healthy, and costs too much... Quote

Have to agree with this analysis of Lamar. Not in favor of Ramsey as he sounds like an overly paid primma donna. And I agree with Tsyl that two number ones or even a one and a three is above my threshold of worth for him Quote
papasmurfbell Posted September 21, 2019 Author Posted September 21, 2019 I think Ramsey is pissed too have his talents wasted. Why would you put the best cover corner in zone? I didn't see deion in zone in his prime. Quote
vmax Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 He's no Dion Sanders. He got beat Thursday night by the Titans. They have too many good players to sign and keep. A Ramsey deal is not worth losing them. Quote
tsylvester Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 I would write off the Titans game, imagine trying to focus knowing you could be traded any minute. His teammates all spoke up and want him to stay, hope he changes his mind Even so, while I know he is a great player, I hope this team does not trade for him. If they were that desperate, they could have had Fitzpatrick for less value. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted September 21, 2019 Author Posted September 21, 2019 Was he put in zone D again? Quote

tsylvester Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 Wow, that is going to cause some issues in the locker room... I am no fan of Hurst, but jeepers, he gets wind that the team wants to get rid of you.. Yes, who would think that is worth the trade, the Ravens reached for him in the first... He is a 3rd round pick at best Quote
papasmurfbell Posted September 21, 2019 Author Posted September 21, 2019 But he was looked at as a 1st. Not all first shine. He has been ok. If a player takes being part of a trade personally then dont be a pro athlete. Quote
tsylvester Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 Maybe, but a 1st, a 2nd and Hurst is insulting any way you look at it and as you said, is far to much for another player Quote
papasmurfbell Posted September 21, 2019 Author Posted September 21, 2019 Yeah. I never would have made that offer. I think Jax will regret not taking that if this is true. You never know if a team will blink like NE did when they traded JimmyG to SF. Only a 2nd is lower than I would have thought. Quote
tsylvester Posted September 21, 2019 Posted September 21, 2019 From what I've been able to find, the offer was real, but the Jags don't think Hurst is better than the tight ends they have and view the Ravens 1st (predicting it to be low) like a high 2nd round pick. Quote
tsylvester Posted September 22, 2019 Posted September 22, 2019 Interesting.. The Jaguars are trying to get two first-round picks for him, though other general managers I spoke to anticipate the final haul being more like one first-round pick, a second-round pick and a young player with upside. The Eagles (who were also interested in Fitzpatrick), Seahawks and Ravens are other teams monitoring the Ramsey situation. Kansas City was willing to trade a first-round pick for Fitzpatrick, the 11th overall pick in 2018, but wanted Miami to include a high draft pick in return. The Steelers got Fitzpatrick in an exchange of picks that brought a fourth-round pick back in 2020. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/chiefs-considered-favorites-to-land-jalen-ramsey-by-many-after-just-missing-on-minkah-fitzpatrick/ Quote
tsylvester Posted September 23, 2019 Posted September 23, 2019 Even more, or no more... Ramsey, who thinks he has the flu, still wants to be traded and may not practice at all this week, sources told Schefter. The Jaguars are not interested in trading Ramsey, according to sources, setting up a standoff with the two-time Pro Bowler. Jaguars owner Shad Khan is leading the organization's stance on Ramsey's trade request, according to sources.https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/27683817/jags-ramsey-calls-sick-amid-trade-demand Quote
