So as a dc say you want to run heavy press coverage.  The db coach teaches primarily off coverage.  Could that not become an issue on the field?  I liked in the past our coordinators picking their staffs.  It worked real well for a long time.

I get your point, but a db coach should not just be teaching one type of coverage.

Each coach, yes, has a slightly different way they want to have, in this instance, dbs plays coverage. 

But, as Billick did with his offensive players, the hc, if knowledgeable on one side of the ball or the other, lays out how they want that side to be. 

Now in this case, Minter worked with Minkens and they have the same approach to playing defense, so it make good sense.

Hey, maybe Minter is going to be the DC afteralll, who knows.
