SpearSrai Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Okay, but why were we still a top defense when Ray was out/came back and struggled, yet the Colts without Manning looked like a junior varsity team? They aren't comparable. Ray doesn't hold the ball and he doesn't make those decisions. He guesses where a tailback is headed or plays coverage on a tight end or inside receiver. He's extremely passionate. But his presence on defense is not in any way the same as a Manning-type at QB. The Colts going 2-14 this year was an outlier, and proves how poorly the Colts were prepared for his injury. A 5-game-drop off is one thing, like the Patriots with Cassel, but 10 games is ridiculous. The Colts didn't even have a backup who they were willing to start - proven by their signing Kerry Collins preseason. Replace Ray Lewis with a leader comparable to Collins or Painter and the drop off would be staggering. Fortunately, we also happen to have another hall of fame leader to take over. Manning did not inspire leadership on the rest of that offense for when he went down; Ray always inspires his backups and fellow defenders to become the next man up (Hartwell, Scott, Suggs...) The Colts just didn't have enough leadership at any level, from player to coach to GM to owner to deal with the loss of Manning. That's an indictment of their organization more than anything. Quote
yagersports Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 So edgerton Hartwell and Jameel McClain are just superstars then? Cuz the defense barely missed a beat when Ray was down and they were at the helm. Hartwell was out of football fast once he didnt have Ravens. Not a very good arguement. It's easy to say there should always be a capabke back up, but sometimes it just isnt possible. Hell it took us ten years to find a starter, fimdimg two successful QBs is evem harder. The Pats thing was the exception to the rule, not the rule. It's rare to lose a great QB and not miss a beat. Ask Buffalo, Miami, And Denver. Quote
SpearSrai Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 The Pats thing was the exception to the rule, not the rule. It's rare to lose a great QB and not miss a beat. Ask Buffalo, Miami, And Denver. Denver, the team that won their division and beat the Steelers with their "4th string QB" after they pulled their starter? The Dolphins who plugged in a journeyman, Matt Moore, and won 6 of their final 9 games with a deadbeat coach? And the Bills are just awful. The Eagles replaced McNabb twice in one year and got better. Favre was replaced by Rogers and they got better. Vick was replaced by Ryan. Brees was replaced by Rivers. The Steelers won 3 of 4 with Batch when Roethlisberger was out with a raping. Brady replaced Bledsoe and the team improved, then Brady was replaced by Cassel, and will be replaced by Mallett. Manning will be replaced by Luck. A team shouldn't drop 10 games just because of one guy, no matter what position. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 Indy was built with the concept of having Peyton there. There D was built to have a lead and when they don't they are about useless. Their OL has always has Manning to make them better. He threads a needle for most WR's. The only rec's they have that would make other teams are Clark and Wayne. Quote
SpearSrai Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 The only rec's they have that would make other teams are Clark and Wayne. I saw Garcon getting open pretty well with Painter at QB...he just couldn't hit him. I'd take Garcon too. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 OK. So many have not been good there. Quote

yagersports Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Absolutely agree. Thats where good coaching and front offices make a huge difference. However this one guy was arguably the greatest QB ever in the middle of rebuilding. The coach used what was given by the GM. I see the brunt of the blame on managements shoulders. Quote

Most definately..Thats why the little fucking pill popper cleaned house..The Indy Colts were built for all the wrong reasons, you cant build a franchise around 1 player and be successful..And with the media releasing different accounts of PayaTons injury status out this week, and PayaTon stealing the SB limelight from the Patsies and Giants, its a holy mess out there. Tell ya what, Pags has jumped feet first into a hornets nest..If he thinks just by drafting Luck, cutting Manning that franchise will be back to the division lead, hes sadly mistaken. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Pags should be in a solid spot. He gets the #1 pick and the best QB since Elway. With a rookie and what looks like something of a rebuilding I don't see him jump to 12 games or something and sets expectations to high. Quote
cravnravn Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 You are kidding right Papa, you'll see in the Combine, Luck isnt all that hes cracked up to be, and if he is the Colts O-Line couldnt block you, me and Max. Quote
papasmurfbell Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 Like a said it looks like rebuild. Quote

cravnravn Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 How do we know that?? He sounds like Leaf II Quote

cravnravn Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 No, Kiper says he cant make all the throws, that aint going to cut it in the NFL..Dosent have zip on the out(sounds like pick 6) Quote

The only guy I can think of that made it work was Pennington. He took some big hits though because the defense would blitz him to death. Quote

Watch the bowl game against Oregon - he can fling it just fine. Quote

John McNulty is moving from receivers coach to quarterbacks coach in Arizona.Reich was Manning’s quarterbacks coach for two seasons in Indianapolis. He was switched to receivers coach with the Colts in 2011. Why didn't the Ravens sign this guy? Quote
SpearSrai Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 http://profootballta...oach-receivers/ Why didn't the Ravens sign this guy? Because we already have a receiver's coach, and he's awesome. :-/ In other news, it's nice to see McNulty getting work. Quote
