Double hernia

Hard to imagine what he would have done if he was healthy..

In injury news, wide receiver Torrey Smith had surgery to repair a double sports hernia. He apparently was dealing with it all season. Cornerback Cary Williams had a procedure to repair the labrum in his hip. Both are expected to be ready for training camp.

A couple of other tidbits: Newsome reiterated that the team is not in the market for a backup running back and it will allow Anthony Allen every opportunity to seize the job. Both he and Harbaugh also downplayed any effort to go after an elite receiver on the free agent market.

Great rookie year and he played hurt.

Williams played well...hurt.

I like giving Allen the shot...stay young...and thirsty my friend.

Sucks for Torrey.

But this leads me to ask the question, why is it that this team never seems to be able to have/plug in capable backups on offense?

On defense we see this a lot, but on offense it seem to be an insurmountable mountain to climb to have a regular starter rest a game or two because of injuries as the backups are incapable of anything but special teams play.

Somewhere, someone on that teams has to be able to realize that you can not have an offensive philosophy that requires your starting 11 to be healthy for 19 or 20 games every season.....

Because you have to develop quality starters before you can develop quality depth. Having a deep depth chart doesn't matter so much if what's at the top is no good; that's always the first concern.

I for one am glad to hear that we have some tough as nails type guys in the mold of Mason. I remember when that little guy was catching balls one handed for TDs when his should was separated. Playing with double hernia, awesome! Warriors. I like it. Get well Torrey.

One WR had face off surgery, the other played through double hernia. Tough guys! Guys the defense can respect.
