Guest BallTMore Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 (edited) Not a big deal yet, IMO. Ozzie said they will continue to try to work on a long-term deal if they have the franchise Suggs. If the Ravens can't reach a new deal with Terrell Suggs by Thursday, they will use the franchise tag on the Pro Bowl linebacker-defensive end, general manager Ozzie Newsome said today. Although the Ravens are planning to use the tag on Suggs for a second straight season, the team would keep him away from free agency with the hope of signing him to a new contract. "You have to look at it as an opportunity for us to enter into a long-term deal," Newsome said. http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/footbal...0,5200387.story Full article here. yagersports Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 JASON BROWN HAD BETTER NOT BE GONE! That is bullshit. We've had problems for years with teams just busting up the gut on us and steamrolling whoever is playing center. We finally have a center that can hold down the fort and we're going to let him walk! You gotta be kidding me. Quote
cravnravn Posted February 17, 2009 Author Posted February 17, 2009 IF we would lose Brown, I hope to hell we make a run at Jeff Saturday. Quote
Dunno Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/footbal...0,5200387.story Full article here. I found this bit interesting from the article Newsome also announced that the Ravens have reached new deals with backup defensive linemen Dwan Edwards and Brandon McKinney. That's a lot of defensive line backups. I would keep an eye on Kelly Gregg, I am not optimistic. Quote
ravinmaniac52 Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 This was going to happen. $20 mil. in 2 seasons, not bad for him. Scott was a goner, there are other players on this team that make much less that can do what he can do. I think it is Ray that gets away and not Brown. Just can not see them paying to much for Ray or for a center. Quote
cravnravn Posted February 17, 2009 Author Posted February 17, 2009 WE NEED JASON BROWN!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote

Best center we've had since Mitchell. Quote

cravnravn Posted February 17, 2009 Author Posted February 17, 2009 Best center we've had since Mitchell Pfffffft, how soon the youth of today forget. Quote
ForceEight Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Losing Brown isn't the end of the world, guys. If the dude wants his money, we sure as hell better not break the bank for him. Quote
REEDPIXOFF Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 We could always move Chester to center or make a run at Saturday/Birk. Quote

Wrong, the key to success, is that front line, they are coming up on 3 years of playing together thats when you know you have a unit, you start picking them apart and we'll be in trouble. Quote
52isUnstoppable Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Im torn between the two. Brown is a key piece to the offensive line, a definite resign. But imagining Ray lewis running out of some other teams tunnel will make me puke my guts out. We could lose our identity entirely without Ray and Rex. We need rework some deals and get both guys back in the lockerroom Quote

Brown just took over at center last season. Yes it would be nice for him to stick around. The rest of the line is young, Joe was a rookie last year, these guys haven't even started to grow yet. A new center is not going to hurt. Quote
vmax Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Brown handled Hainesworth...that's how good he is. Lock him up and you have a very good O line for years to come. Give him guard money....what's the big deal considering what he brings to the line and this team. He's intelligent, a leader, good person excellent lineman...got to have him. The Ravens need offense because I think the D will decline some....Flacco needs to stay upright and the Ravens must be able to run the ball. It all starts and ends with the line. As for Suggs....$10 million dollars will heal his feelings. That's a lot of love. Quote
ForceEight Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Suggs doesn't care about the tag. Not like McAlister did. He was just on NFLN the other day and all Woodson could repeatedly spit out was that he'd be tagged. He laughed it off each time. I'm glad we don't have to watch him leave, at least. Quote
thundercleetz Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Brown deserves to be paid like a guard. Lets just hope that we can get a deal done with Suggs by Thursday. I am hopeful, it sounds like Suggs really wants to come back. If we can sign Suggs long-term, I am sure that tag will go on Brown. Quote
cravnravn Posted February 17, 2009 Author Posted February 17, 2009 Suggs doesn't care about the tag. Not like McAlister did. We Tag him, he will not show up until the last week of camp. Quote

cravnravn Posted February 17, 2009 Author Posted February 17, 2009 Understand, when you hit him with the Tag he dosent get paid til week 1 of the season Quote
