ravinmaniac52 Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 -- Texans to Release Anthony Weaver -- Mon Feb 23, 2009 --from FFMastermind.com NFL.com's Adam Schefter reports just days after cutting RB Ahman Green and LB Morlon Greenwood, the Houston Texans will release DE Anthony Weaver on Tuesday. His $6.2 million base salary will come off the Texans' salary cap, but they still must deal with $5.4 million in acceleration on his contract — a total savings of $800,000. Once Weaver is released, it will not be long before he finds another job. Jets HC Rex Ryan coached Weaver in Baltimore and could sign him for New York, or the Ravens always could try to bring him back. Quote
yagersports Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 It seems the Jets are going to sign every FA/cut player this year lol. Seriously, are the writers getting bored or what? Everytime someone is available there's a sports writer out there....."hmmm, I'll think he'll go to the Jets". I seriously doubt he comes back to Bmore. Quote

He was good in our system here; average in Texas. We need an upgrade at DE; not a lateral move. We need to get better here/ Anthony Weaver ? No thanks. Quote
geo Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Come on Adam S! Maybe you just should just make less comments. The world is full of former Ravens coaches who is now HCs, why not Lions or Browns they could probably use him, what about Broncos, who btw only have a former Ravens who is DC, they could probably use him at least as much. And why not a BB who is now HC in Patriots but started in Baltimore for 100 years ago, or Cards, 49ers, Jags, Bungles and so on. Neither Jets or Ravens (As for now we already have eigth DLs in 2009) makes much sense, except bad work. Quote
thundercleetz Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 We have enough run-stopping 3-4 interior linemen. Ngata, Pryce, Bannan, Douglas (great pickup!), and McKinney all were stout against the run. If we get Gregg back, we will be stacked. Weaver would be a good fit for the Jets though. I really like Weaver when he was here. Not flashy, but was a hard worker. Quote
yagersports Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 I know it's waaaaaaayyyy out there, but imagine if we got Haynesworth and paired him with Ngata on the inside and returned to the 4-3 as a base package? Wow, that is definitely flashes of Goose and Adams. It's a pipe dream that'll never happen, but wow oh wow wouldn't that be defensive hell for opposing offensive lineman! Quote
colincac Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 I feel like we might go back to the 4-3 a few times next year with our added depth on the line. We now have Douglas, McKinney and don't forget Dwan Edwards(who was hurt) to contribute, and with all that depth I would be very suprised if we DO sign both Ray and Scott back. Quote

Mattison recognizes where the talent is (obviously on the defensive line, now, so there will certainly be 4-3 moments), but he's a 3-4 guy, and the Ravens are a 3-4 defense. Logistically, the Ravens will continue to run a 3-4 alignment as their base defense with a scheme predicated by its strength and versatility in the front seven with several players capable of playing more than one position. There will continue to be occasional 4-3 elements, according to Mattison. http://www.carrollcounty.com/articles/2009...sports12709.txt Quote

Speaking of Haynesworth, anyone see this? http://blogs.chron.com/fantasyfootball/ Quote
vmax Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Won't happen cleetz...the Hainesworth to Indigenous Persons. They are tight to the CAP and only have 4 picks in the draft. They might sign Haines worth but that would mean the other 15 needs could not be addressed. They are falling apart...we've known that, they are just waking up to it. Quote
ForceEight Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 I agree. The Redskins have virtually no chance at signing him simply because of their situation. The writer of that piece totally missed considering the Redskins' economic situation. Quote
ravinmaniac52 Posted February 24, 2009 Author Posted February 24, 2009 Haynesworth shouldn't be in the NFL at all! Quote
