Ravens say there will be talent in later rounds
tsylvester replied to TBird's topic in Baltimore Ravens
Two issues Crabtree had were poor route running and inconsistent hands. Size wise, Treadwell is bigger both in height and physical mass; he is ripped. His hands as you know are incredible and he runs good routes, as with most college players, there is some there to clean up... but I never saw Crabtree as a top 10 pick, his speed and size is what enticed others. He has done a pretty good job with his hands, but nothing like he was "projected".... -
Ravens say there will be talent in later rounds
tsylvester replied to TBird's topic in Baltimore Ravens
Just because some sites rank him lower does not mean Oz does, nor does it mean he cannot be picked at 6. He or any player a team thinks is worth the spot, is all that matters. it's not as if the team will be prevented from taking a kicker there (Oakland) or get penalized for doing so... Treadwell is not a speed guy, he is a possession receiver who is strong enough to get off the jam, big enough and with great hands to give the team a great catch radius, and a true red zone threat. He is, in my opinion, worthy of the 6th pick because the team needs him badly and, there is no other receiver on the team or in the draft quite like him. -

Hopefully they are just blowing smoke to make it appear they will trade out... Yes, or is it no, this draft is not deep, not deeper than say 3 rounds. -
10 intriguing facts about the 2015 Ravens
tsylvester replied to cravnravn's topic in Baltimore Ravens
The stats are a farce for defense. Rams- 32 in league passing, Jags-10th (surprising,), Browns-21st , Dolphins-19th, Chiefs -30th , SeaHawks-20theven the Bengals-15th all had no real threat at quarterback. Add to that, the Ravens finished 18th in TOP, but the later part of the season, they took longer to snap the ball, helping to add to TOP, keeping the defense off the field. The defense was 14th in the league in 3rd %, 40% bad.... -
From our news feed forum- http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/ravens/ravens-insider/bal-ravens-coaching-observations-20160116-story.html A real secondary coach, finally, one with a different, skilled set of eyes for players. Maybe even, perhaps, a sign that if the defense doesn't get better, maybe Frazier takes over Pees next year? One could hope.... Ok, I am a bit skeptical over this one. The Jags Sucked, the Iggles defense has been bad for a while and if the Browns wanted him, ouch....

Of note, the most of the "play makers" who are or were in the playoffs were not first round picks. They were developed by coaching staffs & put in positions to maximize their abilities. What makes Steve Smith so good is his quickness in small spaces, Camp is the only one on the team besides SS, who has this ability. If he can stay healthy, it bodes well for the team. If not, maybe they need to look at a quicker one, later in the draft. This draft, in my opinion, is vital to how this team recovers moving forward. With a good draft, they can return to being contenders as early as next year, and for the future. With another poor draft, they will be what we saw this past year, for quite some time.

Saw a number of his games, a great potential player. However, my fear were the Ravens to draft him, he would not "evolve" as they rarely develop talent at this position. Still, in the 3rd or 4th, if they have not done what we hope in rounds 1 & 2, I would love to see him....
-
Ah but people did not hear him properly. What he actually said was they will be working with Joe to lower the cap hit, BUT, they will ALSO come up with a plan just in case they cannot reach an agreement. They have not decided to just go with his current contract.... Big difference..... Liars luncheon, they mentioned every position on the team as a position of need. They only real news that came was Webb moving to safety.... An interesting move....

I'm feeling cantankerous, thus---- He is over matched against most, if not all right tackles... Come on Mikey.... Who did they have to play against as far as quarterbacks and passing attacks in the later part of the season, compared to the first? Got stats Mikey? Or just donuts? No-no, they did, Smith got his usual pass interference penalties, and burnt toast, & Webb got run over & run out of the stadium as usual. Hey Mikey, when you get the donuts, get me some jelly will ya?!?! You are not sold? Frankly, you should have a more assertive statement that the secondary is worse than horrible, I am sold; they stunk, stink.... The lack of communication was not just this past season, Mikey, it has been an issue now for 3 years. It isn't always the players, it is the coach.... I think you are stoned on donuts Mikey! Outside of Bosa, (and I have big question marks about him being a first round pick) there is not a "pass rusher" worthy of a first round pick, let alone a top 10 pick. Why waste a pick and money on a pass rusher who can be had later on in the draft, say 3rd, 4th even 5th round!?! If Brooks comes back, he has shown to be able to get his players to play above their talent level. I am sure he can keep on keep's on Mikey! Without wasting a pick.... No-no-no, Mikey, Pees is the most of their problems! His schemes, preparation and use of man power, not too mention his voice in who to draft, who to sign, who he can "get the most out of" are all reasons why this defense fails against the pass, late in games, late in seasons, late even for dinner!!! If Ted were to be his aire apparent, wow, we would have even bigger issues.... The players wanted Anthony Wright to start too Mikey, remember that? How did that work out for you?!

oops, 4 year extension.....

More Kevin White though White has a bit more speed. Even without the 40 time, which I think he will time in around the 4.48-4.5 range, he is a top 10 pick. Some reputable mocks have him going just before the Ravens pick. From a value perspective, if they get Treadwell at their pick, he will be a steal.

Yep, everyone on this board & I am sure other message boards. The easiest need is at wide out. One of the major reasons they struggle in the red zone is because they lack quickness, suddenness at the wide out position. Everyone is focused on speed, and yes they too need speed at the position. But they need quickness more than anything. In the red zone, they need some one who can make one quick move to get separation in the congested area. Smith sr won so much down there because he can stop & start on a dime. They need this again. It also helps in getting separation in the field of play. There are a number of players coming out in the draft, worthy of the first round pick, even into the late 2nd, who have quickness, jitters, jukes, pick a word, with very good hands. They also need a wide out who can adjust to the ball in the air. This helps down field as well as in the red zone- thus they should choose Treadwell in the first. While he doesn't have the suddenness, he does use his big frame and strength to break free on man coverage, he is very good at using his hand slow to "push off" and not get caught. His huge hands, long arms and great body control allow him to make the circus catch, even with one hand. Just by drafting him, the Ravens would score more touchdowns in the red zone, that equates to more wins. They would complete more down field passes, more third downs, just with him. If Camp can stay healthy, he has the jitters for the red zone, for crossing routes, for run after the catch, But he can't stay healthy so they have to bring some one else in to compete... Defense, they need a safety who can make plays, who has instincts, speed, smarts.Jalen Ramsey fits that need. They won't get him in the 2nd but can get him in the first and look to the second round though, he may not even be there at the Ravens pick. But either he or Treadwell should be. They can't go wrong with either of them. They could go Jayron Kearse in the 2nd, from Clemson, a play makers, play maker. Good tackler, instincts, speed, but he does need to improve coverage skills to some extent. Or, take Corey Coleman in the 2nd if they go safety in the first. Smaller wide out with great quickness, speed, hands, body control, tremendous route runner, NFL ready..... Four player makers the Ravens will have a real chance to add to the team in the first 2 rounds.
-
Then change your glasses. He is the best one coming out this year. But none of them, none of them, is ready to start in the NFL before year 3. He is the biggest upside, great accuracy, very quick release, moves very well in the pocket, quick feet, and smart. Yes, Aaron Rogers like when he came out of Cal. But will Goff get the time to sit & learn as Rogers did?
-
Some great "shows" for players in these bowl games for sure. He can return kicks too, though the Ravens currently have a pretty good one in the undrafted rookie.... I would love to see them grab Sheppard in the 3rd or 4th round. A good back up plan for the always injured one who will not be named....
-
Perriman, Aiken, Treadwell would be a great 3 wide, with Smith to go four; wowza.....
-
Monroe has had issues with injuries since he cam into the league... Another Ozzie fail.......... Next man up..........
-
Take a gander at Sterling Sheppard right now. I've been skeptical of him, but he is showing me something tonight with his adjustments to the ball. My biggest issue was health and his size, but I think he will be a great slot player in the NFL.
-
I would rather he come back as a coach, receivers, than a player. You can see his influence in the way Aiken plays, in his improvement over the past two seasons.....

Something good has come out of all this.

Tough question, I am not in the proverbial loop any longer but I would look to New England first, a fresh face who has been in their org for a while Nick Caserio. He heads up their pro and college scouting departments. Yes, they could stay in house with George, who has been talked about for years every time the thought of Ozzie retiring comes up. But my reasoning for going outside the org is that you get a fresh look at players, especially the positions this organization has struggled with over the years. -

I said last year Ozzie should retire. Frankly, after the Super Bowl win I was sure he would retire. But here we sit with him still in charge. Unless you are the Eagles and Chip Kelly is your coach/Gm, your team doesn't get terrible over night. He has missed on difference making players the last five years. Even the Dummervil signing, looked good at first, but he has always run out of steam later in games, later in seasons. Over paid no matter what his sack number appear to be.... I think Ozzie needs to retire. He has been the constant here for no drafted wide outs ever making in the NFL, let alone this team. While I agree with the reason for, but for Elvis, not bringing him in, but by not building a line to protect him. Everyone knew Elvis is a pocket passer, what did Ozzie do? He over paid for a lineman who; had injuries history, drug history and what happens? Searcey gets hurt and popped for PED's.... Yes, he has gathered enough talent to win two Super Bowls; one with an incredible defense and a lot of luck, the other in a league that right now is terrible talent wise. Add in a revolving door at the OC position, you wonder why player talent on offense has been inconsistent. Harbs has a nice record, suffered through major injuries, yes. But his game management is terrible. Use of time outs, replay challenges, play choices to go for it, to kick, to fake. At this point though, the organization has to decide; are they going to be an org that dumps their head coach every 8 years, or most like the Stillers & Pats who keeps him? He is a good coach, worth keeping in my mind, he just needs to make some changes.... -

He is serviceable, but no, I am not a big fan. Now, I don't know all the schemes, and yes, he has done a very good job trying to work in that secondary, all the players they went through and trying to build chemistry, trust back there, almost impossible. However, he has often APPEARED to be out of position, late to get over, poor in coming up to make a tackle the first time... I've seen lists that don't have him in the top 10 for NFL free safeties, others do... eh... I think they can do better, I know they won't, wouldn't mid Eric Weddle coming over as a free agent, but they have a good some tied up in Hill... -

Pees would be gone. Even with a healthy, "talented" defense, it was not very good when the team needed it most. Some can be blamed on player, but a coach's job is to use them properly, to put them in positions to succeed. He has shown not to be able to do this over his time here. I don't know the inner workings, but who ever has been scouting/deciding which players to target in the secondary over the past five years needs to go and I am sure Pees has had a say in it. Who ever has been deciding/scouting wide outs over the past 20 years needs to go too.... Now that may change once the rookie gets healthy and we see what he can do next year. Still, even if he works out, one wide out in 20 years is terrible. Some can be blamed on coaching, but the coaches on offense have changed over that time frame, have the scouts? I give Tresman a pass this year, even though I don't think he is very good. Injuries and no true play makers are not his fault, he had to to what he could with what he had.
