I played tight end on offense, was the long snapper and on field goals, line backer on defense. Yes, so long as one reported to the official, since I wore the number 16, I could snap the ball. The rule is that the ball must touch the qb's hands when he is under center. Thus, snapping it to him, him setting it on the ground. It's an old play, a small college team actually pullled it off last season. The full back is simply a misdirection... You are correct, these trick plays are against the spirit of the rules. However, there used to be, may still be a rule that says an offensive or defensive cannot do anything that would "trick" the oppossing team. Generally we see this called when a defensive player mimics the snap caddance, when a quarterback bobbs his head too hard to similate a snap, or when a center moves the ball ever so slightly. The Cowboys, way back, used to have their linemen set up bent over and when the qb would say "ready" they would stand up then get into their stance. This became norm for them, but was designed to draw defenders off sides. It worked for a bit, every now & then, they eventually went away from using it. My only point is that all the defenders had to do was listen to who was reorting inelligable, and not cover that player no matter where he lined up. Proper coaching would teach that, especially against Bill B.

We used to run, yes, I am dating my self, the fumblusky. either my self, 16, or our full back, 32, would report in as eligable and play center. It wsa normal for me to do this since I snapped for punts & field goals. Any who, the ball would be snapped to the qb under center who would then place it on the ground under which ever of us was runnging the play. The center, one of us, would then pick the ball up without leaving the snapping position, pretend to pull and circle back running the option... It worked.. We also ran a fake punt with me snapping the ball and goiing out for a pass; I could because I would report religable. Our coach told us every practice, 1) to report to the officials to declare and 2) to pay attention on defense for who was being declared inelligbale; follow were the lined up. We rarely had an issue, why? Because of proper coaching.

What "scares me" is Dick Cass back tracking, as it were, on the question about a players "criminal history" saying instead of; not any more, it is a case by case basis. I sure hope that doesn't mean they are considering DGB at 26..... Parker would be sweet, if he falls into the 19-22 range or lower I could see them trading up for him. Figure the Steelers (22) just signed DHB, the Bengals (21) don't need a Parker as bad as other positions, nor do the Lions (23) or Eagles (20) . So if he gets down into that range, (I do think the Browns will take a wide out with Gordon's issues at either 12 or 19) it could work. I don't think he goes top 15, unless the Phish (14) or Niners (15) take him. If he gets past them, the only other teams needing a wide out with, if it goes this way, the Texans (16), Chiefs (18), and Browns (19) { if they don't take one higher}, That would leave Parker, Strong, Perriman and DGB still on the board. Cheifs definatley need one for sure, Texans could go any which way, they need help in the secondary badly, but with the loss of Johnson, they could really look at one of those four wide outs.

Papa, I know remeber Mel and a few others saying on tv, prior to his injury, that he was a first round talent. I watched a lot of his college games and I tend to agree there.... I will see if I can dig up their report. An article from Buffalo- http://www.buffalobillsdraft.com/2013/08/james-hurst-a-top-draft-prospect-faced-with-taking-on-jadeveon-clowney/

Yeah I hope a team jumps off their seats after seeing his pro day and takes him in the first, that will increase the likelyhood of the Ravens getting a shot at a top wide out. Making great catches, getting open deep is great, but if you drop one that is in your hands, that you need to extend out to catch on a crossing route, you are no good to me.

That would depend on how much and how often he smoked. If he goes through an 1/8 ounce a day or more, normally, for say a month, it will take 3-4 months to get out of his system. Now, if he just used it recreationally, a few puffs per night, every other night or so, then yes, 30 days. A little less frequently, and I've seen it get out of a system in 10 days. It all depends on how much, how often and what types of fluids they drink each day. Faster metabolisms get rid of it quicker, yes, I used to be a 1/4 ounce per day smoker, back in my college days, 3 foot bongs etc, hash, as well... My biggest issue with him is not the smoking, but his claim, his words mind you, that he was addicted to it, but all of a sudden, now, after he was caught, AGAIN, he doesn't have an issue with it, sure, ok...

Stupid rule, just pay attention to the announcement of who reports eligible. We did back in HIGH SCHOOL, what, millionares can't? Just as dumb as saying they, the NFL, doesn't have the money to put four more cameras in the endzone for better coverage........
-
Perriman, 4.24 40 at his pro day.... wow,,,, too bad he doesn't show that type of speed on the field...
-
Gregory got popped for pot at the combine. While everyone kid makes mistakes, one must be pretty stupid to use when you know you will be tested. His "excuse". It was from weed he smoked back in December and while, his words, he woke up every day in college needing to smoke pot, he doesn't need it now... Currently he is now in strike one of the NFL drug policy, next positive test puts him out of games.... First round pick? hmmm not fer me.....
-
Because he is slow to respond to identify plays, weak in the upper & lower body, he has no "bend" to turn the corner, and only made a name for him self against weaker opponents. A lot of players over the years are rated high, but turn out to not even make it in the NFL, let alone be a contributor on the team. I could be wrong, but I have not seen anything from him, and I watch a ton of college games, to warrant a first round pick, not high in the round, and certainly not at 26. I think there are a number of players with just as much talent and potential as he has who could be had later in the draft.
-
Oh my apologies if once again I said something that would cause you to not understand, I am not sensitive, did not think you were "attacking me", I just asked a simple question, answered another of your questions in a way that I had hoped, you would understand; again, sorry for the 'confusion".

The way I look at the team, they need quality more than quantity this year more than most any other year. Defense is, the line, is filled with young, talented players, with an old timer in there for good measure in Canty. Offense, the line is set with good, quality players, mixed with youth and is deep. Corner, WR, middle line backer, tight end, running back, and maybe safety are glarglaringds, though corner may be healed with what they have done and players coming back. Parker is solid, an NFl ready receiver in my opinion, but then, so are several other players, Strong being one of them. No, I would not trade up that high for Parker if Strong is still on the board. I would trade up to say 20 for Strong, to ensure they get him at a good price, too boot. This way, they could fill the other needs with the remaining picks, in the 3rd, 4th, etc. Tight ends are even for the most part up to 4 deep, after that, they are not as athletic. But they can still land a good one in the 3rd. The linebackers, both inside & outside, are eh, ok this year for where the Ravens pick, they are all pretty even, all very raw. Personally, I think they can land Dupre in the 2nd, maybe even in the 3rd if they trade up, a solid de/outside backer. He is far more "polished" than Gregory and has more potential. Do this, that would leave a true BPA for the 4th, 5th, 6th and undrafted players they need to fill out the roster.
-
I agree, if Strong is there I would hope the team is smart enough to take him or trade back if possible. They don't need a dt that high, certainly not a runningback either at 26.
-
Do I not explain my self well enough for you? Is that why you keep ignoring parts of my post? I clearly said I have seen it reported that Gregory MIGHT be the pick, NOT that I thought he would be the pick. I stated I thought it likely that position would be be the pick and that that position is weak in that all the players are roughly on the same level, with potential, but need much, much coaching. Is that clear enough for you?
-
Let me repeat my self in case I was not clear. I have not followed the team as I used to, so it would be an uninformed guess. But were I to take one, I would say likely, knowing the way he went about it in the past, a de/olb, hopefully not, as I think they can find one equal if not better in later rounds. This year's class at that position, from what I have seen in watching the games this year, is pretty equal and, perhaps key, all need a lot of coaching to even rate playing time over what the team already has. I have seen some report Gregory could very likely be the pick, I hope very much they are wrong, saw a lot of his play, weak is the term I would use for him.

Ravens want more fans at training camp- roll eyes.....
tsylvester posted a topic in Baltimore Ravens
Yeah, sure, sure, move camp out of Westminster where the college was ABLE to handle the thousands per day, where local businesses saw big gains in patrons = money, to the Castle, where they can only have and have only drawn, "hosted between 400 to 600 fans each day in 2014"..... Sure thing, what is the max they can hold even with "buying" more land (currently a park sits across the street and private home owners own the land around the palace), maybe up to 1,000, but nothing close to, either in numbers nor in intimacy, add to that, the road their palace sits on is not, will not, cannot be able to handle that much traffic flow, site lines are not good on this narrow two lane road......... http://espn.go.com/blog/baltimore-ravens/ -
Don't know, never claimed to be kreskin, I don't have the time I once had to study the players, the teams, etc. You asked a loaded question, I purposely took the bait so you could have your day in the sun. This is a fan discussion board, second guessing is what makes the discussions go so well. circle jerks, they are for children who do not understand the game. Crav, the same person who never knew Boller had never played in the rain. The same person who thought Travis Taylor could cach a cold or Troy Smith was an NFl quarterback. Papa, if memory serves correctly, you me and several others from the board back then, sitting around the Windbag's sumer party discussing how lame a pick Clayton was.....
-
Five of seven, yes, back when I was studying the team and the game, how bout you? Plenty of peole have gotten the ravens first picks correct over the years, many even other draft picks in different rounds. It is not that difficult if you study the team and their tendancies.
-
Yes, back when I was writing, I acutally had five of their seven draft picks correct, including the first three rounds, the first round pick of Clayton, I almost begged the Ravens not to make; stated he would be a bust..... But then, every squirrel finds a nut....
-
hey, there was no video tape. The bigger deal is who Dallas signed and there being no outrage. He is an habitual abuser, unlike Rice, and unlike Rice, there is no video, only the written reports from the victim which no one wants to read.
-
Well, after he has been with them a little while and they see he can't catch the ball consistantly, your cousin and the Panthers, will know exactly why the Ravens let him walk. That is, if he holds up for more than 10 games per season........
-
Oh you are going to get Crav started............. There are some coaches who think you can teach a player to catch, that they just need the proper coaching and practice; Billick was one of said coaches. Taylor had the speed and size that was the fancy of NFL teams back then, and today, to some extent, it goes in cycles. However, as history shows, if a player, as in Taylor's case, can't catch by the time they reach college, they will never learn to catch consistantly. Taylor had no issues getting open, neither in college nor in the NFL, he just "paniced" when the ball came to him, whether he was wide open or had a contested catch. He only moved up the draft boards because of his size and speed.

Talk about being on a crash diet and some one brings in a box of your favorite donuts.... I heard Mel talking about him being a sleeper who could move up the boards. Me, I can deal with poor routes, I can deal with not being very strong.... This kid knows how to use his speed, he also has incredible quickness, I mean just look at this box of donuts- everything the Ravens had hoped T Smith could be, but wasn't. Who wouldn't want this kid? Those are all the positive things you can't teach/coach, those are instinctual characteristics. However----- Those are all the tings the Ravens got from T Smith, some of that can be "cured" with coaching, but the hands, you either have them or don't. Third round? Yes, any higher, no, not worth the risk.

They will announce the official comp picks next week, likely Monday, perhaps, Tuesday, at the owners meetings. Ravens should get, yes, 3, maybe 4 of them, 4,5, 6 and maybe a 7th.
