What are your concerns heading into the season?
tsylvester replied to Tornado700's topic in Baltimore Ravens
Wow, just wow, about the cuts they made today, wow.... concerns, the entire team now...... -
Precedent, the previous cases were all fines. The NFL agreed to the schedule of punishments the NFLPA outlined for first & second offfenses for "conduct detrimental to the game", all of them, fines. I didn't look up the exact rules in the CBA, but here is a good article on this-http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/08/08/conduct-detrimental-vs-equipment-violations-in-brady-vs-nfl/ It reminds of the time Jamaal Lewis got into trouble with that drug issue. Everyone wondered how long he would be suspended, most thought 4 games. However, because the NFL used certain verbage, Jamaal fell under certain criteria which ment the max he could face was a fine & 2 games. In Brady's case, while the Comish could impose what ever he wanted, in this case, only with in the perview of the rules he and the NFLPA agreed to, when they did the new CBA; fines, fines, only then a suspension after repeated issues. Since this was Brady's first offense, he had to be fined at max. Thus, the judge's ruling. In his ruling, through all the pages, you see everything I have stated on this matter.

Yes, because the process was completely wrong in the first place. This is much like the police entering your house with out a warrant or permission, finding something illegal there, and arresting you. The charges would be thrown out.

Another owner speaks out about the way the comish needs to "change". Arthur Blank http://www.myajc.com/news/sports/football/blank-said-brady-ruling-is-unhealthy-for-nfl/nnX4P/

Ditto, I will add, special teams; coverage and returns.... -
I think Stan said it best last night; practice squad for sure. He is very raw but showed over each game, he learns quickly, rarely repeats a mistake and he is very smart. It is clear he studies tape as many plays as he jumped/sniffed out. The question is can he get stronger and a bit quicker? He is a keeper right now on the practice squad, worth a chance next year to atleast be a great special teams player.
-
They have no choice but to keep him, he is the best of the worst in the secondary and they can tell him to just catch the punts, don't return them. And do so only if no one is around him for say, 50 yards......

Did not happen, a few tackles, a caused fumble. Frankly, against the caliber of talent neither he nor Orr stood out other than a play here or there. No depth behind the two starters, they may have to switch to a 5-2 to keep the best front seven on the field. Look for two new linebackers draft next year, one of them, likely in the first round. Some good ones coming out.

It was the only way the judge could rule. This was about abuse of power, the process, not about whether or not Brady was involved in fixing the footballs. The CBA states a player who is deamed involved in something that goes against the integrity of the game is to be fined, not suspended. Goody went beyond that and suspended him, and did so for four games. Now, factor in the emails that were uncovered a few weeks ago showing some one in the NFL offices leaked to Mort false reports of the air pressures, and did so, quite exageratedly. So instead of being 1-2 pds under the limit, in reality they were only an oz or so under, leading to the reports that showed footballs can, do and have lost weight during cold weather games. In a court of law, to an outside observer, there is not enough, likely no evidence neither Brady nor the Pats in anyway, did anything to the footballs. Add in that several of the footballs the Colts used were also under weight, and Goody clearly went over board. Sure, there is an appeal, but that appeal is 1) likely to take years 2) Brady is likely to win based on how the judge worded his ruling.

Special teams, two games, two disasters....

More apparent now, ASA is not a return man. Last night, while it was a nice punt return, he almost let the ball slip through his hands when he transfered it after catching it, then the trip......... Then the fumble on the other one...... Maybe Camp will be the man.... Kick offs, oh brother, Mcgee is not the anser unless they want to start each drive from the 15...... He is just not fast enough out of the end zone. I like him, but Tousaints is the better option from a return/running back point of view. He is quick out of the endzone and has elsusiveness to make men miss. He catches it clean, unlike McGee.... They talked about Smith being the punt return guy, I am not sure they want the only receiver who can get open consistantly, who is so old and in his last year, put into danger like punt returns.... This still looks to be a mess, maybe they have plan they are not making obvious.............. -
As one NFL exec put it, one for the thumb for Goody.....
-
If he ever learns how to avoid the wash, how to properly make his drop, his reads and, remember how to tackle, then he won't be a bust. But as Cleetz said, cheap back up....
-
Another loss for Goody, not good......

The New England Patriots were found to most likely
tsylvester replied to tsylvester's topic in NFL General
Brady wins appeal, maybe, could have, might have, not good enough for a court of law. Especially after the evidence surficed that the NFL purposely lied to Mort about the amount of air pressure.... http://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/judge-lets-brady-play-ruling-against-nfl-in-deflategate/ar-AAdTXsh?ocid=U142DHP Per the CBA, fyi, IF Brady did in fact deflate or have the footballs deflated, a fine was the max the NFL could do to any player labled under the integraty of the game... -
http://touch.latimes.com/#section/-1/article/p2p-84318259/ I won't call him a hater (even though I think there is some envy going on there). I happen to agree with him, these gloves today are incredibly sticky, more so than stickem ever was for that matter. If you think low pressure on a football helped the Pats win a Super Bowl or changed outcomes of games, these gloves easily do.... I concur.... Now that would blow up the internet more than that family does......

I am a big fan of Cousins, (MSU fan big time, one of their profs is a Ravens fan from here, knew him well from another Ravens board, back when Insiders was huge).... any who, I don't think he is ready to start and frankly, the worst thing to happen to RG3 was getting drafted by the Skins. The 2nd worst thing was all the success he had his first year, after which he said this league was easy..........
-
Ose scares me with that achilles injury, they can nag all season and this team needs him in order to run the ball...
-
Not at 34 with his injury history. Let the Pats take him, for spite, and make a hero of him....
-
Cousins was the quarterback, let us see how well they do when a real quarterback is on the other team. Time will tell but I am not sold on the secondary, even if Webb and Smith are in there. I was very impressed with Gilmore, he has taken on a new personanlity after he catches the ball. Speaking of catching it, he is alwso snatching the ball out of the air, he is a beast and if he stays healthy, could have a great season.

3-of-7 for 17 yards and a costly INT for a 10.7 passer rating
tsylvester replied to vmax's topic in Baltimore Ravens
My point is and was, when Shaub went in, he was given no time at all because of two factors; the line not being able to hold a block for more than 1 second and the receivers unable to get open, nor get any seperation. Is he a starting qb at this stage of his career? No, but a better back up than what the Ravens currently have or could have? yes. As for fry cooks, the Skins didn't put them in until the middle of the 3rd quarter and even then, they mixed them in gradually. After the dust up with Harbs, Gruden wanted to rub the score in. -

Wow, no one getting open, no protection at all, against mostly the starting defense and you wonder why he didn't do well? Renner looks good against people who will be out of the NFL in the next two weeks and he should be the back up? Sure, sure thing... -
Jamison took his guess earlier this week- http://espn.go.com/blog/baltimore-ravens/post/_/id/21199/baltimore-ravens-end-of-camp-53-man-roster-projection I think it was pretty obvious what the roster would look like, with only a few question marks; how many and which receivers, how many and which corners, who the bleep will be the return men..... After last nights game, it was clear for all those questions, but the answers are not exactly great news... Jamison has them keeping 6 receivers with Butler and Carter heading to the PS, Robinson, Nelson, D Brown and Steelman cut. Frankly Butler has been a big disappointment, he simply can't get open, does not run his routes properly and forget breaking tackles or making people miss should he catch one..... I will be a bit surprised if they keep Waller on the roster, especially after yesterday's game playing with the first unit. He showed just how raw he is, how far he has to go.... This position on the team is very, very scary. None of them aside from Smith seems to get seperation, or are able to get off the jam, still.... Runningback, he thinks Tousaints will go to the PS, with Magee sticking on the roster while Tali heals... Only 8 on the line, yes, he thinks Reid sticks again, like a bad odor after Max is done in the bathroom...... Lewis-Moore and Bilukidi I have to agree with him here. Lewis-Moore I was hoping would reach his potential this year, but this far, nope.... 5 corners is risky if they stick with that, but what choice do they have; after two of them, the rest stink and you need to keep players at other positions.... Asa seems to be their choice for returning kicks & punts, ouch. He scares me and yes, I know, he had a good return in the game that resulted in no points, but that is another thread..........

The report about his PCL sprain came out on the 20th of August. I found it simply using google the other day. Why any "sports" reporter who guessed it might be a childhood disease couldn't find it, who knows (he is getting killed on his own site over his "article"). As for Williams, he was dinged up each of the first two games so they held him out. They know what he can do and what to expect from him, they wanted to see how the otehr two did; we have a manimal at tight end

PCL sprain, 6 week recovery, from date of injury. http://www.rotoworld.com/headlines/nfl/315122/ravens-rookie-wr-perriman-has-sprained-pcl

Oh I agree, thus my statement, IF it is true. We know the track record over there with their insider info. Maybe the Ravens don't want to address it is because it would put egg on their face for picking him even knowing he had it, ala picking some one with Spinal Stenosis, another injury most athletes have or anyone who has ever fallen on their butt or fallen on top of their head causing cervical stenosis.... They don't end careers but will lead to nagging pain.
