Really unlikely now for Roman to go. I really wonder who's idea this was. Harbaugh's? DeCosta? Bisciotti? All 3? And they see no way to let Roman go? I have to admit to being baffled by this whole affair. The organization as a whole has lost some of its luster for me on this move.

The Ravens announced today that they have 'parted ways' with Wink Martindale the DC for their last 4 years. I find myself rather pissed at this. The defense had it's secondary's heart ripped out and the FO never got him the pass rushing talent he needed. Meanwhile, jerk Greg Roman is still around. Is Wink gonna be the fall guy for the 2021 season and not Roman? Please tell me Roman is on the way out too. Another expert weighs in: https://www.baltimoreravens.com/news/late-for-work-1-21-pundit-predicts-ravens-lamar-jackson-won-t-get-deal-done-this

Wow! I wasn't expecting an article like that! I think Papa is really Mike Preston!! I still think they should table negotiations with Lamar until mid-season next year because we just don't know what we're getting. Give him 8 or 9 games and see if he has adjusted his playing ability to what defenses are throwing at him. If he does, then give him a big contract but if he doesn't, time to find another answer at qb. Lamar has in the past made some plays I didn't think were humanly possible, but defenses have made adjustments and now he must too. I appreciate what he's done for the franchise but now we're a losing team.

I would say Ten or Buf vs the Packers for the Super Bowl.
-
If the Cowboys were as big as Jerry Jones' ego and mouth then they'd have something! Meanwhile the Steelers and Ben: one and done. Shoot we coulda done that.
-
Unfortunately, I am not sold on Oweh either...as you said, next year will tell. I really don't like drafting projects especially in the first round. Even if they do develop, by the time they do their rookie contract is over and they go elsewhere for the big pay day.
-
The Pats sure hit paydirt with Judon. Sure it costs money but if you don't commit the resources in free agency you're cutting yourself off from a proven supply of talent. It takes a balance between drafting and free agency to stay relevant and the Ravens did that under Newsome. The jury is still out on DeCosta. I'm not a Jerry Jones philosophy guy just saying it takes both avenues to be a successful franchise and over the years the Ravens did rather well. Now coaching is another story. I'm not sold on Roman and I think Wink tries to get by on what he's given. Roman doesn't adjust from year to year as he has shown in SFO, BUF, and now here. Wink doesn't get any pass rush talent so he tries to make up for that with schemes and two outstanding cornerbacks of Peters, Humphrey. That will work against mediocre teams but not against the big boys.

I'm talking about starting quarterbacks. Geez it's hard enough to find them in round 1 and nearly impossible after that. Look at how many shots at finding one the Browns and Bengals took over the years and only now do they have competent qb's.
-
Gotta agree with Tsyl. It's a hit piece of an article that overlooks the facts and the facts are that this franchise is a long way from falling or even declining.
-
MLB is important. So are edge rushers. So is LT. The question is, in what order are those priorities? What can we get in free agency? Anything there for any of those positions?
-
The draft is of course important but it's also something of a crap shoot once you get past round 2.
-
So many priorities and so few top picks to get them. Can we afford to make a major move or two at free agency? LT is a necessity as is pass rusher. I don't think CB is our number one priority.
-
You don't want to fall so far south that your team absolutely sucks just so you can draft a Joe Burrow type guy. With the talent that this team should have healthy next season, Joe Flacco would have had a field day and we didn't draft him until mid-first round IIRC. So you look for a competent guy like Joe. BUT only if Lamar shows no progress. If we're still treading water next year we will know it's time to let Lamar go. I hope that doesn't happen...Lamar has the ability he just needs a coach to keep him on the beam at all times.

I read Mike's latest article and was going to cut and paste his observations but it turned out I felt nearly the whole article was both accurate and relevant. It also echoes a lot of what Papa (and Tsyl) have been saying. So for those of you who haven't read it, here's the link: https://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/analysis/preston/bs-sp-ravens-2021-season-accountability-preston-20220112-uoq4qf24gfes7l7s5uy2cqf5bq-story.html

Another thing...we need 1 or 2 more players on offense and/or on defense who are real playmakers.
-
That's a definite alternative, Crav. Imagine if the team had had a healthy Stanley, Dobbins, Gus, Marcus Peters, Humphrey, Watkins etc. Watkins is probably done as he is never healthy but the the other guys are question marks. Can they make it back to 100%? If so, the team will just need a RT and maybe a safety. I haven't made up my mind yet, but yes there is an argument for bringing everybody back, even Roman.
-
1. Afraid so. Still I would have liked to see him finish out the season healthy to see if he could adjust to the adjustments defenses made against him. I don't think he can adapt but I would have liked to have seen him have the chance. Now I'll never know unless we give him a big contract which I wouldn't do at this point. I'd tell him we'll evaluate the situation regarding his contract mid-season next year. If he does well, pay him. If not, we have to take on a new and different (i.e., NOT Huntley) quarterback. Lamar's not being able to play the last 3-4 games leaves a cloud of fog over the whole organization. 2) Agree plus he can't hit the deep ball on the timing and I'm not even sure he has the necessary arm strength.
-
They gotta let him go.
-
Yeah...an ugly game to end an ugly season. I wonder if JK, Gus, and Stanley will be able to bounce back. Stanley won't have played in 2 years! Villanueva has to go before he gets one of our quarterbacks killed. What kind of deal is he on?
-
The O-line won't hold up and whoever is playing qb will be running for his life. Valenzuela can't block A-class defenders and Makari can't either. Look for another TJ Watt field day. The number one priority for this team in the off season should be the O-line; then pass rushers. Will of course depend on our cap situation as to how much gets fixed. Bottom line is the Steelers will want to win this game a lot more than we will, it being Rothslxxxxger last game. Expect a lot of Steeler fans in attendance.
-
Yeah...I agree...he looked pissed and he knew we could have won it with just a TD instead of one of the FG's. Not sure if Urban is the guy either but maybe he butted heads with Roman on philosophy and Roman was his boss??
-
Man, there's a lot of guys there we should let go! Among them I see Williams, Watkins, J. Smith, Houston, Board, Ellis, Bynes, Johnson, McPhee, Levine, Welch, Ty Williams. The key to retooling this team is going to come down to how big a salary we want to offer Lamar or if we should trade him and then who the hell replaces him?
-
I think Roman has had a decent length of time for an evaluation. Time to let one of our passing game ass't OC's take over. Preferably somebody who can keep Lamar's mechanics in line like Urban. Roman is a good smash mouth leader but sometimes even football calls for some finesse and we ain't got that even though the tools, i.e., receivers are now good enough.
-
Yep they have to do this. There is no telling if he'll be back and even if he is he hasn't really played in 2 years. If he does come back and we draft a stud LT, move Stanley to RT. I'd put edge rusher(s) and Tsyl's middle backer way up the list too. I admit, at this point I don't know what to do about Lamar. My gut says pay him.
