OutsideRzAcE Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 I was just watching my local Pittsburgh news and much to my surprise one of the stories is that a Baltimore Sun poll shows that 94% think Roethlisberger is better than Flacco. Of course this makes the anchors giddy: "One more reason to be proud to be a Steelers fan". I'm thinking there is no way in hell that after he's the SB MVP, Flacco is only garnering 6% of the vote against Roethlisberger in his own hometown paper UNLESS the sample size is ridiculously low. Wrong -about 9500 votes in and Flacco is still getting crushed 93-7. What do you guys think? I'm wondering if the majority of you guys think Flacco still comes up short against Big Ben? Roethlisberger certainly has the better resume but he's also 3 years older, and has been more injury prone. Quote
vmax Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Rthsslsxxbrrgrrr never had a string of 4 straight playoff wins like Joe. The Steelers won those SB's despite Ben....with the Refs help. A Tebow led Bronco team defeated the Steelers in their last playoff game and Rthsslxxbrrgrr interceptions and poor judgment caused the Steelers to miss the playoffs last year.Joe has the better arm and accuracy. He has no injury history while Ben can't make it through a season. At this time Joe is ascending and Rthsslxxbrrgrr is descending and he has passed Ben as the better QB. Quote
cravnravn Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Its all based on the 3 game sweep of us in 2008, Stealer Fans LOVE living in the past. And when joe does beat Ben, they always have one of their 6 redi-made excuse cards ready for play. Quote
cravnravn Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 There's an article to go with the poll http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/baltimore-sports-blog/bal-sports-blitz-joe-flacco-ben-roethlisberger-debate-20130508,0,7726021.story Quote

Also I didn't realize the defense threw the game winning pass to Holmes I swore it was big Ben. Throw the bronco game out the Steelers were missing 11 starters and Ben was on one leg. Quote
thesteelhurtin Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 How can you say flacco is more accurate then Ben when Ben is always over 60% has flacco ever been over 60. Has flacco even sniffed throwing 30+ tds in a season. Quote
deeshopper Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Ben consistently sells out his receivers. They bail him out a lot. Quote
thesteelhurtin Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Ben consistently sells out his receivers. They bail him out a lot.Yes stone hands Wallace bails Ben out. Why is it so hard for yinz to admit Ben is better. Higher career qb rating and higher career completion percentage while starting 3 more years then flacco. Flacco is a good qb but he's not on Ben's level and every stat shows it. Quote

Here's how I break it down:I would take Ben over the Joe Flacco we have seen the first five years of his career.I would take the Joe Flacco we saw under Jim Caldwell for the last three games of the regular season and through the playoffs over Ben. We saw Flacco's ceiling toward the end of last season, and that ceiling, IMO, is higher than Ben. I think a full offseason with Caldwell and Flacco is primed for a huge year where he gets himself into the conversation with Ben. In the span of seven games (only six if you do not count the one QTR he played against the Bengals) Flacco threw for 1703 yards, 15 TDs, 2 INTs. The only argument Flacco has over Ben is the six game hot streak that resulted in Flacco winning the Super Bowl MVP and beating the best QBs in the league. I think if Flacco shows that type of consistency in 2013 he will overtake Ben. Until then, I have to say Ben is the better QB. Quote
thesteelhurtin Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 It's hard to say Ben has hit his ceiling since last year in a brand new offense he was having his best season ever and was in the mvp discussion until he got injured. Quote

Right I agree. Ben was having an awesome season. I took that into consideration. What I also took into consideration was Ben's durability. He gets hurt a lot and takes a lot of unneccessary hits trying to extend plays. I do not have a probelm with that as that has won him a lot of games (heck, won him a Super Bowl against the Cardinals), but would you rather have potentially 12 games of Ben vs. 16 games of Flacco? How many more hits does Ben have in him? I cannot imagine he will be a guy that will play past his mid-30s as an elite guy. In this tough division where every game matters durability makes the choice difficult. If the Steelers can keep Ben upright, I think he is also primed for a huge season. BTW, I loved your draft. I thought your first two picks, Jones and Bell are perfect Steelers. Markus Weedon fits your new mold of WR like Sanders and Brown, average sized guys who are explosive with outstanding speed and run precise routes. We are in for some serious battles this season. Wheaton looks like he could be a great wr in our system. I like the fact the we have three wrs that can line up at any spot. I'm lookinjg for Reggie Dunn to be the camp surprise with his 4.22 speed. The ravens did pretty well in the draft my favorite pick of theirs is Simon he's going to be good. Quote

vmax Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 It's a 'no brainer' for me.If today I'm picking players for a brand new team, then I have to take Joe over Rthsslxxssbrrgrrr as my QB of the future.I don't have any hesitation pulling that switch. Quote
thesteelhurtin Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Here is a major thing yinz are forgetting the Steelers have zero threat of run to help Ben hopefully leveon bell changes that so defenses can't just sit back and wait. Quote
cravnravn Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 (edited) You have no O-Line, so technically you have no QB threat and no RB threat. Edited May 10, 2013 by cravnravn Quote

Adams showed last year he is a run blocking beast. Decastro got better each of the three games he played while not at 100%. The only question I have is can Gilbert play LT. Also we git a new oline coach and are switching to zone blocking. I really like our line this year. Quote
