Ravens linebacker Courtney Upshaw was noticeably heavier this offseason, pushing 300 pounds, and coach John Harbaugh was willing to call him out on it.

But according to the personal trainer he’s been working with this summer, Upshaw’s going to look like a new man when Harbaugh sees him at training camp.

Upshaw’s apparently in the 275 range now, closer to where he needs to be to be a productive player.

“Courtney has been very consistent and has dropped about 20 pounds from 295 pounds and has been fluctuating between 275 pounds to 278 pounds,” trainer Troy Jones told Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun. “He’s been very dedicated. He has a great work ethic, he works extremely hard. He’s a quiet guy. When Courtney makes up his mind, he doesn’t hesitate. He’ll pass the conditioning test. Courtney is very explosive.”

The fact that Harbaugh was willing to point out that the second-year linebacker was overweight because of his poor eating habits was a clear message.

If Upshaw has taken it to heart and keeps the weight off, it will give the Ravens another potential playmaker at linebacker, which they need as they make a transition.

275-278 is still too heavy but it is a great improvement. He could really be a huge help to this defense. I hope he's dedicated like his trainer says.

Yea...I see your point crav. He's going to lose some more weight.

I'd rather see RB's and Qb's run into a brick wall. He can be that.
