Ravens bring fifth-round pick Arthur Jones under contract

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on June 21, 2010 11:01 AM ET

Ravens G.M. Ozzie Newsome hopes defensive lineman Arthur Jones becomes the next Baltimore player that slipped too far in the draft because of injuries.

The Ravens announced they agreed to terms with the former Syracuse defensive tackle on Monday to a three-year contract. Viewed as a second-round prospect at one time, Jones' senior season was marred by knee and pectoral injuries.

Still, some respected outlets like Ourlads ranked Jones as the seventh-best defensive tackle in the draft, despite his injuries. He's known as a hustle player and was also a wrestling champion in high school. In time, he could have versatility to play 3-4 defensive end.

Pitta too...

Tight end Dennis Pitta became the second Ravens rookie to agree to a deal on Monday, reaching a three-year contract with the team, a league source confirmed.

Ravens director of college scouting Joe Hortiz said he saw Pitta drop only one pass in six games that he watched. Pitta, who is 6-foot-4, 245 pounds, is versatile enough to line up in the slot or as a traditional tight end.

“Dennis is a real instinctive player,” Hortiz said. “He’s got outstanding hands. He’s a real savvy route runner and just knows how to get open versus a zone. He’s quick and sudden enough to be a mismatch versus linebackers, and he just brings that flexibility to an offense where you can line him up.”

The Ravens have five draft picks left to sign: outside linebacker Sergio Kindle (second round); defensive tackle Terrence Cody (second round); tight end Ed Dickson (third round); wide receiver David Reed (fifth round); and offensive tackle Ramon Harewood (sixth round).

I want Cody and Kindle in camp, on time.

I'm hoping Kindle realises he is in one of the best situations he could have possibly found himself in through the draft. He should sign his slotted contract and realise that the Ravens will pay him if he proves his worth on the field.

Only question is, do the Ravens give him a 5 year deal or ink him to the standard 3 year deal?

We normally give our Second rounders 4 years, not 3. And Adam Terry might have been a fifth year contract? And I am not sure about the third rounds.

The Ravens and rookie wide receiver David Reed have agreed in principle to a three-year contract, Newsome announced Thursday. Reed was a fifth-round selection (156th overall) out of Utah in April's draft. Reed finished his two-year career at Utah with 106 receptions for 1,615 yards (15.2 average) and 11 touchdowns in 26 games (13 starts). He set school records for receptions (81) and receiving yards (1,188) in a season as a senior

Another one signed, David Reed.
