No people who are for the failed war on drugs are for a nanny state. People need to have the right to destroy themselves. The govt should not be legislating morality. Prohibition of any kind does not work. It failed on booze. It has failed on drugs. It failed on gambling. It will fail on tobacco when it gets to that time. There will always want what they are told they cannot have. There will always be people willing to provide that thing for a premium and everyone else be damned.

Using potentially fatal drugs is much more than a "negligent way to die". It's actively changing the human condition to a preferred state and risking the livelihood of that person to that end.

And I don't think anyone claimed to desire a nanny state. I don't really care what anyone does or uses, either, but I don't expect to be criticized when I show no sympathy because of their choice to instantaneously kill themselves.

I understand how you feel and will not criticize you for it, not that I agree with you. I just felt the 'rot in hell' remark was pretty cold. I know you didn't make it. Other than that I may not have posted in this thread.

I feel a similar way you do with this whenever a auto racer dies. I am sorry they died but I have a hard time thinking its a tragedy or anything. You go around a track at high speeds with a bunch of other cars doing the same and its surprising when someone dies? I am surprised more people don't.

I do feel more compassion for drug and lifestyle related deaths because I have seen and understand (to some extent, not personally thank goodness) addictions and the damage they do. That's just the way I feel, I do not expect or care so much if people agree with me.

In regards to the 'rot in hell' remark - I am not much of a hater so if someone dies or is harmed in a way that for some reason me sitting on my high horse does not find sad or sympathetic I will not piss all over a thread with disparaging remarks where people are mourning or discussing the person.

We dont need the right to destroy ourselves, we have the Gov't doing a fine job of that all by themselves.

To a degree yes. But also the country is also the state. There is a dept called the State Dept. Hilary Clinton runs it. The US like Russia, UK, and so many others are nation states.

Curious as to whether any of you agree with New Jersey lowering their flags to half-mast in honor of her.

I wouldn't authorize it. It doesn't bother me though because for years there have been some occasions where flags have been flown half mast for entertainers and other celebrities. Paterno? Billy Barty? Werent the flags in Gillette Stadium half mast for a game for Myra Kraft? I do not bear any of them ill will but I would not have made the same decision.

Well one could make that same argument for some of the many career politicians who have had the flags flown half mast in their honor. Not that I do not see your point.

If you're going to honor celebrities, you have to honor every hard-working American who wasn't born with preternatural gifts but still gives everything they have to support their family and country.

Bobbi Kristina Brown 'found getting high after Whitney Houston's funeral'

Her mother's funeral had just been hours before, but Whitney Houston's daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown was allegedly found doing drugs yesterday.
The 18-year-old apparently slipped away from friends and family after the emotional four-hour home going service in New Jersey.
Instead of joining them at a restaurant in Newark, Bobbi went off to be alone and even caused panic this morning as her mother's coffin was being transported to the Fairview Cemetery to be buried.
'Everyone was freaking out and calling Bobbi Kristina's cell,' a family friend told The Daily Beast.
'It was so much commotion and activity after the funeral that Bobbi Kristina just slipped away. Ms. Cissy [Houston] was beside herself.'
Bobbi Kristina was understandably left devastated when her 48-year-old superstar mother was found dead in a bathtub at the Beverly Hilton hotel on February 11.
She was apparently found 'getting high' after she received the news her mother had passed away and there were conflicts between family members on whether she should be taken to rehab straight away or left to mourn with her family.
'It's a horrible situation for everybody,' the family friend said. 'They tried to save Whitney, and it didn't work. Now with Bobbi Kristina, they fear the same thing is happening again and they wont' be able to stop it either.'
'Bobbi Kristina is all Ms. Cissy has left of Whitney. She's so tired, but she's ready to fight again to save her grandbaby.'
The teen had apparently grown up seeing her mother doing drugs and her family are concerned that she may follow in the singer's footsteps in the more negative aspects of her life.
Although an associate of the family told The Daily Beast that Bobbi Kristina went to rehab last year, the Houston family would not be drawn on the matter.

'Bobbi Kristina had the people she loved and love her the most around,' the source said in the days before the funeral. 'Ms. Cissy was holding on tight and watching her every move.'
But Bobbi Kris was apparently left devastated after her father Bobby Brown walked out of the funeral yesterday with the nine guests he brought with him after he claimed he was asked to move by security thre times.
'That was just too much for Bobbi Kristina to handle,' the source added.
'All that drama, and Cissy finally asked him to come in and stay, but Bobby wouldn't.'
'Cissy only did that to help Bobbi Kristina, because Cissy cannot stand Bobby.
She just didn't want a big drama with him on that day of all days.'
Bobbi Kris is also apparently upset following her parents divorce in 2007 and how quickly Brown moved on.
The My Prerogative star has become engaged and has a two-year-old little boy with fiancé Alicia Etheredge.
'There was some confusion about Bobbi Kristina’s whereabouts last night for a short time, but she's OK,' a family spokesperson told The Daily Beast. 'She needed some time alone.'
The Houston family rep denied that Bobbi Kristin was on just and said that she was just going through a 'very hard time as you can expect.'
