But it's not so easy finding a QB is the point. If it was, everyone would have one. It's very difficult to find a good QB and now we have one. I'm not letting him go.

I don't disagree with you... it's just the principle of the matter, if we're talking about overpaying a guy. I'm sure we won't have to overpay for him... Ozzie and Co. just have to convince him that he needs to use escalator clauses to obtain top 5 money.

At this moment in time Joe is not a top 5 guy so shouldn't be paid like one. However, if he believes he is and thinks he can prove it then there is absolutely no reason he couldn't take a contract along the lines of those being handed out to 2nd tier QBs like Kolb and Fitzpatrick got this last season but with the added incentives that if earned turn the contract into a top 5 QB contract. I don't think any of us or anyone in the Ravens front office would have any trouble forking over 20mill a season if we are winning superbowls and our QB looks like an All Pro. If Joe thinks he is worth Manning, Brees or Brady money at this point then he is deluded.

Joe's a tight wad. He got his Mom a lawnmower with his signing bonus....no shit.

He won't be hard to please...and his agent won't like that.
“Here’s a reality of this league,” John started, “you never pick up where you left off the season before. We’re never back to a minute left in the AFC championship game ready to take it to the Super Bowl. We’re not there until we earn our way back there again. Every team starts over, and the foundation for us starts right now. We build the whole thing from scratch."

Correct. We know Joe feels underappreciated in the media, but I doubt he thinks he's earned top 5 money (and I don't think he's said as much, either.) We're mostly reacting to what his agent said - with both he, and with Rice.

Everyone is replaceable.........agreed. However it took us 10 freakin years just to find Joe in the first place. I'd rather not take another 10. How quickly people forget things.

The problem with that is Ozzie became affraid of drafting the position. Like he was scared of going WR. He let Brian talk him into getting the wrong player. From that day he was scared for what 7 yrs to go back to the well.

From what I understand, the guy Ozzie wanted was Byron Leftwich... also the wrong player.

True but Byron was taken before he could get him. Brian convinced him to give up a 2nd round pick that turned out to be Asante Samuels and a 1st round pick that turned into Wilfork. After giving up so much he seemed scared of the position.

Ozzie isn't scared of drafting any position. How ridiculous.

I think Ozzie drafts the players that he believes will make an impact. He's gone after plenty of WRs. He's struck out a bunch, however I don't think that makes him afraid. Guys like Oz just aren't afraid of stuff like that. Why would he? He's done unbelievably well in so many other positions. No GM is perfect. I'm sure he knows that.

With the addition of Flacco and now Smith, he may finally have drafted someone good at every position. It's good to be a Ravens fan.

Looking at 2010 and what The Ravens did I see 2 major spots that I question.

The 5th with David Reed. I didn't know really anything about him. After that pick I liked Carlton Mitchell and Dezmon Briscoe. Instead of Harewood in the 6th I liked Antonio Brown who is making Wallace uneeded.

Looking at 2009 I think Nicks would have been a better pick than Oher. I reallly liked Johnny Knox that yr also and he was had in the 5th where the Ravens drafted Jason Phillips.

I have watched over the yrs looking foir the Ravens to grab one of these guys and they never do until last yr.

Interesting that this has come up.
When Billick was hired he needed a QB from day 1.
During the early part of the Billick era, he and Ozzie were on the same page that you don't draft a QB.
The thinking was that it takes 2-3 years for him to develop and just when he gets good, he becomes a free agent. In essence, you've spent a lot of money, time and resources to develop a player for another team. They reap the rewards.
Free agency was the least expensive way to get one and you are getting a proven player with a body of work to evaluate and plug in.

Darn....it didn't work.
“Here’s a reality of this league,” John started, “you never pick up where you left off the season before. Let's also not forget that the QB position has changed. It's not like it used to be. It's much easier for a QB to make an impact early than it used to be. The rule changes have made it so that many rookie QBs come out gunning. Anyone remember Peyton's rookie year? That was probably the best rookie year I could remember and it was pretty tough for Manning to get anything going. Tons of INT's tons of mistakes. It used to be that 1 or maybe 2 rookies in a draft class would start or even play their first year. Now it's like 5 to 7. That's a big difference.

Linta was posturing with his praise of Flacco, and that's his job. He is also inexperienced as far as having done top notch deals for quarterbacks which made his statements so early in the negotiations appear silly.

Flacco isn't a top five quarterback because he isn't cerebral or talented enough to run an offense centered around the quarterback like Green Bay does with Aaron Rodgers, New England with Tom Brady and New Orleans with Drew Brees.

I dont think its inexperience at all on Linta's part. He fired the first shot over the FO's bow..

And they are basing the "He's not top 5" on fantasy stats..The only stat that matters is W & L..and over the past 4 years he's top 5 in that column.

But it isn't all W+L's. If it was Trent Dilfer is perfect in the SB does that make him better than Marino?

Then Alex Smith now has worked into the top 5. He is fixed and should get a very large contract.

That simply isn't true, Crav. Footall is a team game, and we're talking about individual players. For the TEAM, it's all about wins and losses. For the individual, there's WAY more to it than that.
